Edwin

I hated the wretched place. It seemed to me to gorify meat eating, but a heart by-pass perhaps changes ones views. I dont know who runs the place now but it used to be a thoroughly objectionable american who was nasty to both customers and staff alike. I shall not return - and I recommend you to do the same

Good: Reasonable and sincere wine list. Menu that shows great potential if cooked properly. Bad: What arrived at our table on a Thursday evening was not cooked with passion. Salmon was slightly over done, the bed of noodles over cooked to resemble a portion of supernoodles. Likewise my wild boar was dry and the roast potato cake that came with it slightly bland and pointless. As a restaurant that one assumes is amongst the best in Harrogate it needs to pull it's socks up in the kitchen if it wants to continue charging the prices it does.

I've quite honestly never had a worse Italian meal. The whole experience was like Fawlty Towers but without the humour. the place stank of bleach, the waiting staff were almost amusingly rude, and the food was just downright horrible. The pizza bases tasted like they'd been bought frozen at a supermarket, and everything tasted of nothing. And the wine was so bad we actually left half the bottle, and believe me that never happens! We refused to pay the ridiculous service charge, but quite frankly they were lucky we paid anything.

I have to disagree all the previous submissions. My experience of Graveley’s in Harrogate this afternoon, 17/5/08, was one of the worst I’ve had in a long time. Initially I was concerned at the slightly sticky table and perhaps not the cleanest of crockery and cutlery. However, the slogan “At Graveleys we ask you to judge by quality, by quantity, by price, and decide if the product is value for money" makes you think that paying £8.50 for Haddock and Chips with be worthwhile. Wrong! While the fish was small but okay the chips were like cardboard and many so crisp on the outside they nearly broke your teeth. They were very oily too. I don’t think I’ve ever had the misfortune to be served such awful chips. My wife had the same with her chips and even a young boy on a nearby table left his chips after saying they were too hard to eat. The service was less than speedy and then the most incredible of all: the waiter asked if the meal was okay and I told him how bad the chips were. He didn’t even go as far as to apologise, just saying other customers enjoyed them and then had the cheek to complain at me, telling me I was being unreasonable! Later when he came back with the bill he offered to take me to see where they prepared the chips to show they were fresh and was still unwilling to concede there was a problem with them. I hadn’t actually questioned their freshness, more like they had been over-cooked. Again, the word ‘sorry’ didn’t enter into his vocabulary. What’s more, on checking the bill, I found I’d be charged £2.50 for an orange juice and then £3.95 for another identical orange juice. The whole place lacks friendliness and professionalism. I’m sure there are plenty of other eateries around Harrogate much more worthy of your custom.

I went with my sisters last Friday and we had a fab meal. I have never tasted a chicken Tikka starter as good and want to go just to try it as a main meal. The host was lovely and very generous and friendly and I loved the building. Thanks for a lovely evening and the Baileys, wish I wasn't driving!

As a regular customer of the Tannin Level in Harrogate, I am delighted to inform you that they are now serving all types of coffee. So now not only is it the best place to eat in Harrogate, you can top it all off with a wonderful espresso. Try out the lunch & early bird menu - food of that quality cannot be beaten on value!

Its AMAZING!!! We went on a Friday and were a bit wary as when we walked in at 8.15 it was really quiet...however the service was brilliant and when the food came we all agreed it was the best and most authentic thai we've ever been to (thats saying alot believe me!!) Cant wait to go back!! This is what we had (3 of us) We had Tom Yum soup which was so fragrant and fresh - made you feel quite healthy eating it! At the same time as sharing some veg tempura (this could have been a bit more varied, it was just broccoli and mushrooms but still yummy!) Then the 3 or us shared Massaman curry (out of this world!) Green Thai curry (gorgeous) and a stir fried chicken with chilli and holy basil, accompanied by a pad thai, 2 portions of rice and 2 bottles of wine! All came to about £84, so less than £30 each for SO much food and 3/4 ish of a bottle of wine each - fabulous!! Like i said, cant wait to go back - AMAZING! x

I agree with comments of your previous readers. What a delightful atmosphere to enjoy good food and attentive service. I think one would need to get there early to eat in the conservatory. Prices are a bit above average but with a high-life 2-4-1 card it's a bargain.

One of THE best places I've ever eaten. But please don't tell anyone else. Don't tell the chef he's very talented as he may demand higher wages. Superb food, wine, and a seriously good selection of real ales. Nuff said.

Good Indian food is available in lots of places. Especially good Indian food is very, very special. We had that 'special' meal tonight early doors at the beautifully refurbished restaurant. Eating such good food and being able to see three waterfalls is not what you may think of as being too usual. Quality - outstanding. Very fresh ingredients cooked so, so well. Value for money - brilliant. If the whole meal had cost 50% more you would not have begrudged a penny of it. That's not something you often hear a Yorkshire man saying now is it?

If you want a great Sunday lunch in Harrogate go to William & Victoria Wine Bar on Cold Bath Road. Great value for money, service second to none and lots of atmosphere. Fantastic roast beef and Yorkshire puddings.... yum yum! The place to be on a Sunday.

I visited Damn Yankee not too long ago. I went with my wife and kids. The kids were quite happy running around and the staff didn't seem to mind which was good. They have a kids menu which has a colouring in section. The adults menu was quite large but my wife is a vegetarian and there wasn't much that she was able to have. She eventually settled for a bean burger, which was very oily and over fried...it didn't contain ANY beans but processed broccoli and carrot, which it did not say on the menu. The menu actually specified that it would be a bean burger, which it was not! Very disappointed! When the waitress came over she didn't seem at all bothered that we weren't happy about the meal she actually laughed! I was advised to have the large nachos for myself by one of the waitresses after I tried to order a small one. When I received the nachos they were huge! It could have actually fed my whole family. So I was a bit annoyed I was practically forced into ordering the (more expensive) large one. It would have been nice to have abit of honesty! The restaurant was quite busy when we went and everybody seemed to be crammed in. It felt as though we were sharing a table with the entire restaurant. Every mintue or so one of the many 'big boned' waitresses would push past knocking me. Nearly making me loose my drink. I think that the idea of being able to see the kitchen is very good. Except it's slightly off-putting when the chefs appear to be dirty and sweaty. As you may have already gathered I won't be returning to The Damn Yankee! I have been advised by my friends to try the one in Guisley near Leeds.

After living in the Harrogate area for now close to 20 years, I have tried every pub/restaurant in the area for Sunday lunch. Now having found the Tiger Inn I need look no more. The food was exquisite. My fishcakes actually had fish in them, amazing considering some of the areas best places rarely get this right. My lamb was so tender and tasty, whilst my husband couldn't stop talking about his beef (best he's ever had apparently!). Portions were good and we couldn't fit a dessert in but the table behind us were raving about their cheesecake and apple crumble. The staff were polite and gracious, the landlord was surprisingly young but obviously knowledgeable. The food was well priced and good value for money, the wine list was interesting and surprisingly cheap when compared to other places. If I had one complaint it was that the place was so busy we couldn't get to the bar at the beginning. Besides that, I booked a table for my entire family on Mother's Day before we left. I can't wait!

We have just had an excellent Sunday lunch at the Old Station Inn, which we thoroughly enjoyed and will certainly go back again. As soon as you walked through the door you were made to feel so welcome. The pub itself is a delight, the staff couldn't have been more friendlier, the drinks were spot on and the food was superb. Everything on the menu was homemade and good value for money. Thank you for such an enjoyable lunch time.

This restaurant is consistently considered as one of the best Italians around. Every meal I have had here was excellent. I have never had a mediocre dish yet. Last night I had their ravioli with dolcette and pear filling - what a good dish. There are always new dishes and old standards available. The service is friendly and the customer is made to feel special.
