I don't usually write reviews but I feel compelled to, in the hope that the owner reads it and makes some improvements. I visited as this restaurant has previously had a good reputation. We pre-booked but that wasn't necessary as the restaurant was deadly quiet. It was cold inside and definitely in need of some TLC. The toilets were very cold and there was no hot water which was concerning. I decided not to use the toilet as it was unclean and so cold. Our food arrived way too quickly for it to have been freshly made. The sauce on both our curries was gelatinous and unappetising. There didn't appear to be any vegetables in the sauce as suggested on the menu. The food was served on cold dishes and plates which didn't help as the room was so cold too. The only acceptable and possible fresh item was the naan bread. Please take note Sultan of Lancaster and make improvements. Retaining customers is key in a competitive and difficult climate. I work in the food industry so know the challenges.

We got here at last of promising ourselves a visit for at least a couple of years. It was a quiet night, I suppose it was early at the Vue cinema had cancelled our film show. That being said the service we enjoyed was top notch and very attentive but not intrusive ( a lot of other restaurants could learn from these guys). We had the usualpompadoma and chutneys, which were fair but a bit light on flavourful. We had no idea what the intense red stuff was but it was nice. The onion bhajis were excellent and light but full of flavor especially with a little of the chutneys on them. My main course was a chicken Dopiaza with peshwari Naan. The dish was very mild, surpringly so but very flavorsome with a lovely strong onion flavor, so bang on. The peshwari Naan was a bit disappointing, light on flavor and no fruit in it, which is the way I like it. Also, it was a little too oily and slightly underdone, making it difficult to pick up the dopiaza. Overall, it was enjoyable but could be better. My partner had a hot lamb dish, the name of which escapes me. It was very tasty but far too hot for both our palats. A side dish of yogurt would have been useful. After the meal the writer advised us the have the lamb on the bone dish next time we come back which we will do. Overall, a very nice experience in a very nice environment. Excellent., we went early doors so not to many in. But it's a lovely building with lovely staff and yummy food.

Lovely meal all enjoyed it, was a bit disappointed we could not have a beer with our meal .

Very disappointing! We have lived in Lancaster for a while now, and we're looking forward to visiting. The place looks very impressive with it being an old Methodist church. When entering, there is a lot of decoration, which again looked quite beautiful. However, the carpet was absolutely filthy, with it being nearly black where people have obviously walked, and the toilet floor was very sticky, like being in a nightclub. We had the early bird menu, just because we had booked at 6pm..We didn't realise there was an early bird menu until we got there. Very disappointing. The portions were very small and the main course looked like a ready meal. We were told this was because of us choosing the early bird menu. When we have visited other restaurants, and had the early bird menu, we have still got the same amount of food as the main, and the quality has been as good as the main menu. To us, the idea is to get people in during the quiet period and to give people good quality food and quantity, so that you will leave and recommend the restaurant to others. We will not recommend any one to go here!

A few friends and I recently enjoyed a fabulous meal at this restaurant. We had starters and main courses of which all of us thoroughly enjoyed. The only negatives I can say is that the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, and the atmosphere was a little too quiet/cold (2/5) but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the food. A little bit on the high side price wise and situated in the centre of Lancaster.

Always fantastic food and service at the Sultans in Lancaster - we really enjoyed our meal out. Highly recommend for a meal (though slightly on the pricy side) but certainly a treat!

Service was good. However my main was not what I expected it was too sweet and the chicken was dry and chewy.

Fantastic food and great service Family of four out to celebrate Mothers Day. We all tried something different and every dish was delicious. The dessert were really tasty too. The portion size could have been a bit better, especially the chips, but still very enjoyable. We will be booking again soon.

Opened at 5pm on the dot, welcomed us in and both the food and service were excellent
