we went for my mothers birthday and had the best food we have had in a long while. Everything is homemade and the choice is second to none from homemade burgers, steaks, tapas to salads and sandwiches on a variety of breads. The staff made us feel very special and even lit a candle on a small cake for the birthday. It is quite obvious why they have the best in burnley award and the lancashire award. we will be returning on a regular basis.

Food and service absolutely brilliant highly recommend it.

Best restaurant in the North West! Superb, innovative chef serving quality gourmet food. Owners are 'front of house' guiding friendly, helpful staff to create a fine dining experience which is second to none. Recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for the best food, wines and ambience in and around Preston/Blackburn area.

We visited The Spice Room for the first time yesterday evening. Decor: a tasteful blend of contemporary and traditional. Staff: attentive, without being a nuisance. Menu: good range of dishes, including vegetarian options. The vegetable jalfrezi and samber were both excellent and the chana di khal was very tasty. It was the best meal we've eaten out for quite a while and we're looking forward to eating here again very soon.

well three of us had lunch there today .it was brilliant .loads of free salad/ roll /etc from the salad bar and the main meals steak/gammon /burger were all excellent we had three free ices too as we had a token from a newspaper .it was a nice environment and the staff were good at what they did and were pleasant ,and talkative .would recommend to anyone and with drinks for three it was just over £21 well you cant beat that .wish all restaurants were half as good .look and learn everyone ENJOY !!!

We have been again! nothing else to say but,"superb" Why does no-one else leave a revue? does any-one else read Sugarvine? The best food in the area, please give it a try!

I used to eat at this restaurant a few years ago, but stopped going as the service was quite poor. However, we visited on 1st May, and our experience was absolutely excellent! I think it is now new owners. The food was fantastic (especially the King Prawns in batter - MASSIVE!!). The service was probably the best that we've had in a restaurant for ages. We really couldn't find any fault at all, and we can't wait to return to try out the rest of the menu! We had an excellent evening, and it was fantastic value for money.

we have visited pond now numerous times and i am always blown away with the attention to detail, the friendly efficient staff and the most wonderful food you will ever eat, i had a table booked with friends last Saturday and was excited to see Andrea in the kitchen running rings around her boys, her food was amazing my friends were visiting from London and they can't imagine eating anywhere this good , we need one in Camden they cried! the mussels in Thai coconut and the fillet Stilton were exceptional as was the dragon banana we all polished off with a deliciously fruity rioja our bill was also very reasonable working out about £28.00 each ( we did drink abit) so we have all booked again and have decided to try it on a Sunday for a lazy chill out afternoon that they are doing from may, we cannot wait. If you are in or thinking of visiting Preston you must try it but please book don't be disappointed as they are always busy.

Was DJing there on a bank holiday all dayer, decided to get a bite to eat with my girlfriend and son, chose the platter. What an excellent meal for 3 at only £20. Must definitely go down for a full on banquet of carribean heaven, a must. Dave the Chef will soon be putting the likes of ramsey & Pierre White to shame!!!!!!

The best indian for miles. Food doesn't swim in ghee live some places.

Recently dined at the pub with my mum and to be honest it was with mixed results. We started of with the crab cake and the crumpet with curb and beetroot. What can i say, you couldn't fault it, well presented, seasoned beautifully. great service. Then followed the mains. it was as though the trumpets were muffled instead of the usual fanfare. The potato pancakes were delicious, the steak pudding though was a let down. I had the pudding a month ago, hence i went for the second helping. Unfortunately even though it was cooked beautifully with the caremalised carrots and smooth mash it was let down with the fact that there must have been about 70% suet pudding. with the remaining 30% in kidneys. gutted. The cauliflower cheese was tip top aswell, except that i felt the cauliflower was a little too overcooked and soft. It'll still take a nation to hold me back though.

What a chaotic experience as a large group. Food was fine but the organisation for the evening required a lot of patience for us as a party, the presenting of food to individuals was loud and overbearing. Not a relaxing experience at all.

Great place to eat, staff are brilliant, was about £20 per head including drinks but really special. They also had singer guitarist on and we got his business card and is playing at our wedding next year. Lovely

Hidden away under the Woodlands pub, this gem of a restaurant seems yet to be discovered by most. Since the basement under the pub was converted, it has been a tapas restaurant and a fine dining eatery, but was closed for a while before opening as a Caribbean restaurant before Christmas. Arriving just before 8pm on a Tuesday evening, my party of 9 had booked our table, not knowing how busy the place might be. Apart from another couple who arrived later, we were the only customers. We had pre-ordered our food, meaning it was ready just after we sat down at our table. Some of us opted for spicy chicken wings, a couple chose the meat patty and one went for the king prawns. All smelled fantastic and there was nothing left on any of the plates. For main course, two of us opted for a platter to share for our main course, priced at £30. This might seem pricey, but when you consider you each get 3 chicken wings, a huge fried king prawn, a Caribbean dumpling, corn on the cob, a mixed Caribbean kebab, fried plantain and fish of the day and a curry dish to share, as well as black bean salad and coleslaw, it represents great value for money for those who like to try a bit of everything, and we struggled to finish the meal. The chef came out of the kitchen to talk us through our platter, and we were greeted not with a Caribbean chef as we may have expected, but a head chef with a strong Manchester accent. One of our group doesn't like spicy food and she chose the macaroni cheese pie, not really knowing what to expect. It was served with new potatoes and went down very well. Most of the others had gone for the full size version of something we had on our platter, and again everyone was impressed with the freshness, quality and amount of food. The wine was also very reasonably priced, at just under £13 for the house wines, which had a nice flavour and was easy to drink. My one very small criticism would be that because our platter was so plentiful, it could have been split up so we had some of it when the others got their starters. We mentioned this to the chef and he was happy to take our comments on board. We were all too full for desserts by the end but all had coffee to finish off, vowing to return soon. Verdict A great, different style restaurant. A real bonus for the town that deserves to stay. food 9 drink 9 service 9 atmosphere 7 value 8

SAT 28/03/2009 16.00 me & my wife decided on the last minute to attend and arrived without a reservation, the staff were very accommodating and the service was first class plus the menu concept and pricing of £7.95 buffet was excellent quality

I visited the Shajan very recently and although the food was outstanding. The experience was ruined by the terrible attitude of the waiters, they were rude and dismissive. I'm not sure if there was something going on at the restaurant but I will not be going back.

We have been to Vedas in Todmorden quite a few times and every time the service and food have been excellent. Very well decorated , great menu and good wine list. Would wholeheartedly recommend and excellent value.
