We love it here. Tasty cakes, great coffee, lovely staff and, of course, adorable kitty cats! The cats are so happy and well looked after, it really is a joy to visit.

Had a lovely meal at the Kings Arms food was terrific and the specials board offers a great off menu selection. Having been many times before over the years this was probably the best meal we’ve had.

Family of 4 for lunch and all loved it. Food was great and the kids could go up and down freely. Which was nice. Friendly service too.

My first visit to Brooks was certainly not a disappointment.. the food was top notch and the ambiance and service was super, smashing, great ! I will certainly be going again. Thank you

Food was delicious, great customer service. The only thing I didn’t like dirty windows specially when you sit next to the window for the view. I tried to take a few pictures but the windows were so much dirty literally it’s impossible to see the river through them.

We have been visiting the Kings for over 30 years, several times a year but this was our first visit since the new ownership. We were a little disappointed after the high standards of previously. The food was overpriced but of only 'satisfactory' quality. I had a cheese and bacon beefburger costing over £20 which was accompanied by a salad consisting of the sort of leaves from a supermarket salad bag. An ample freshly prepared salad would have made so much difference. Towards the end of my meal while I still had food on my plate and I was taking a pause to decide if I should finish it, the waitress came and started piling side dishes such as the ketchup pot onto my plate and THEN she asked me if I had finished. We then watched staff coming and going for about 20 minutes before we were asked if we wanted desserts...it sounded like an afterthought. We are used to the staff here being attentive and efficient but something needs to be done about training. We understand that this is still a work in progress and because we love the Kings we intend to return in the summer but we have already started visiting other venues in case there is no improvement and we have to find a new 'first choice'. We will still call in for a beer, the quality being the best in the Dales. Please get the Kings back up to the standard we had become used to! (we spoke to several people in the village who all said they had heard similar comments from visitors about the lowering of standards)

Fab food and service.

This is the second time we have visited. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and you can see the cats adore them. It's such a relaxing atmosphere and you can see the cats are really happy. The cakes are amazing too. We had a chocolate tea this time which we've never seen anywhere else. Would highly recommend this. We're hoping to visit more regular. Definitely would recommend. Such a lovely experience.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Kings Arms, both main courses were tasty. The desserts were fantastic especially the chilli honeycomb. The service was good and the atmosphere nice.

I had a booking but was ignored by two members of staff before being acknowledged and shown to a seat. The room where we were seated was very cold and therefore the food, which wasn't piping hot to start with, went cold very quickly. The food was very nice though. I thought the tea was very pricey at £3.00 for a teabag in a teacup, not a mug. Not a patch on the atmosphere and service from The Cheerful Chilli I'm afraid. The food was nice though but won't be rushing back.

We had the brisket of beef and it was absolutely delicious, couldn't fault anything

We attended as a family of 6 for a birthday celebration and had a fantastic time. We ordered several different dishes and sides and it was all beautifully cooked and presented. The best Chinese food we’ve eaten in York for sure. We will definitely be back. Thank you Maxis!

Absolutely fantastic as always , great food and great selection of wines and cocktails , very reasonably priced and all staff are so friendly and helpful , we will be back again very soon .

Amazing food and staff. We are staying on the site and came last year for the first time and couldn’t wait to return. A fantastic menu, food nice and hot, well presented and good portion sizes. The staff couldn’t do enough for us.

Perfect as ever. Maxies is still my number one restaurant in York. They made my mums birthday by singing to her too.
