I have been coming regularly to The Magpie since 1975/6 and although it has developed from ‘fish & chips, bread and butter and a pot of tea’ it has kept up with the changing times with a varied menu and fabulous choice. It offers quality food not be beaten, the freshest of fish superbly prepared and cooked, with lovely, efficient, friendly and welcoming staff. Time after time quite simply faultless for food, service and value. Probably my favourite restaurant anywhere.

Best fish & chips in Whitby, and we’ve tried a few! Don’t forget to order curry sauce and save room for the jam roly poly.. Old school welcoming atmosphere and, more importantly, fantastic friendly service.

Food was great, service excellent and value for money. The outside area looks fantastic with all the beautiful flowers surrounding it. Would definitely recommend.

Visited the Magpie Cafe last week. We pre booked online which was very easy to do. We were greeted by an extremely friendly member of staff who showed us to our seats. The menu had so many lovely dishes it was hard to choose - suggest browsing the menu online before you visit. The waiting staff, although very busy, spent time chatting to us and made us feel extremely welcome. The food was a cut above your normal fish and chip shop cafe. The portions were very generous and seafood hot pot was perfectly cooked and full of flavour as was the monkfish off the specials board. Nothing was too much trouble and we received proper Yorkshire service and food throughout. We will definately be back.

Was asked to leave a review, unfortunatly its a negative review. Booked a table and was allocated right at back of restuarant, near the open kitchen which would have been hot and noisy. Asked if we could be moved, was told not possible, even tho lots of empty tables were there. We didnt stay even tho we had travelled from Grimsby, we turned right back home again. Been before and went numerous times whilst was in previous location and its always been lovely atmosphere and nice food. Not sure about going again? At the risk of getting allocated same area? Im rating it not good customer service on this occasion.

The decor was lacking, although I did enjoy the roaming dog. Milo was very cute and made it all feel homey, however there was very little decor other then bland walls and paintings. However the music was very upbeat and lively, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The service was wonderful, the waitress staff was welcoming, sweet and conversational they made the experience so much more fun! The price is on the steeper side and although the food was very tasty I still would call a rare treat rather then a constant hotspot.

Had a lovely dinner at Giorgios last night. I love the way you can now get Greek food as well as Italian so we had a bit of both. Highly recommend the sea bass with feta and spinach!! Lovely staff as always and a nice chat with the owner!

Having lived in the village for over 40 years It is great to have a friendly, welcoming local at last. Andy's food is consistently good - typical pub food with interesting and varied specials, the service is excellent. The recent change in management has made this pub a really great place to visit for a meal and drinks. Judging from how busy they are I am not the only person to appreciate the changes that have been made. Thank you to all at The Crown.

Delicious food and great service. We went especially as there were vegan options and the vegan set menu was delicious and can highly recommend.

Been wanting to try here for a long while but never yet made it, however we managed to book a table and it didn't disappoint. Food was excellent and staff were polite and friendly. Atmosphere was relaxed and social distancing measures were good. obviously the emphasis is on sea food but there are adequate alternatives if someone in the group is not a sea food person. All in all a great experience and certainly one to be recommended, will definitely be booking again next time we are in Whitby.

Service was brilliant and the meet and greet was excellent All the staff who served us couldn't do enough. Although we had booked a table inside we decided to sit outside for a drink first, this wasn't a problem at all. We ordered our food and when it was nearly ready the very nice young man took us to our seat inside. Food was great but would like to see more on the menu. Although I do appreciate that at the present time all eateries are only offering a limited menus. Our group had duck salad, streak sandwich with chunky chips, large fish and chip and a small portion. We all thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered and can definitely recommend them. I had the small fish and chips and they were best I've had in sometime. We will be back. Thank you to the staff at the Crown.

We visited Maxis to celebrate our 33rd Wedding Anniversary, and it made it a very special occasion. Everything about the evening was first class, from wonderful food to excellent service from the staff. Without doubt the best Chinese Restaurant for miles. The only negative was, that under present rules of a maximum of six to a table, this was being well exceeded at more than one table.

The food, service and atmosphere was first class. The only downside side of the experience was we had booked via the website and when we arrived there was no sign of the booking. Fortunately we had the booking confirmation on my phone or I doubt we would have been seated.

Extensive Greek and Italian menus - something for everyone and the food was delicious when it came. Lively atmosphere, good value, highly recommended.
