I was so disappointed that when we came on a Saturday evening that there were no pizzas on the menu (I love the pizzas) but even with limited menu the food was still beautiful. Looking forward to a more lively atmosphere and outdoor music.

The main course was spoilt with the vegetable selection wasn't fit to eat been just blanched and hard. The roast potatoes even worse frozen pots like warmed up,must of been cooked hours earlier. Not one bit impressed, only thing nice was the trays the food was in.

31 Castlegate Restaurant – YorkWe have been visiting the Magpie for many many years now. It is by far the best seafood restaurant in Whitby, offering dishes that the others just can’t compete with. I love the salmon and haddock gratin with Thermidor sauce, and travel the distance just for this! My partner always has the traditional fish and chips, but tries all the different starters they have to offer, each time we visit. I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant, service, staff, food, all excellent. Can’t wait for our next visit!

31 Castlegate Restaurant – YorkAbsolutely superb as always, beautiful prawn cocktail followed by the best fish and chips anywhere (and I've tried lots). Not the cheapest but always value for money. The staff are lovely very friendly and can't do enough to help.

Magpie Cafe – WhitbyI celebrated my 50th Birthday at the Magpie with a lovely meal for two. I always dine at The Magpie when visiting Whitby as the service and food are always excellent. After walking the Cleveland Way from Robin Hoods Bay we were definitely ready for our fish and chips. I plumped for the Scampi and my companion the standard cod and chips. The portion sizes are very generous and sadly left us with no room for dessert!

Hard to judge atmosphere because of social distancing measures in place which were very well delivered including track and trace details and temperature tests on arrival. I really enjoyed the meal as did my family and Maxis is my favourite Chinese restaurant so I would always recommend it. Well done and Happy Christmas.
