The Hamnavoe was recommended to us whilst visiting our daughter on the island and we were not disappointed! Nestled in the quaint side streets of Stromness this small restaurant was full of character. The staff were delightful and the food absolutely delicious! An interesting menu that was well put together, perfectly cooked food with beautiful flavours, and all enjoyed with a very nice wine. Thank you to all staff for a lovely evening, we wish you well and can’t wait to revisit on our next trip to Orkney!

Afternoon Tea The venue is very beautiful but I don’t feel I could recommend afternoon tea. We ordered it for 4 people, £58. Three tier arrived with one plate of sandwiches, which contained cheese, cheese and pickle, ham and tuna. We asked for them without butter, and the cheese ones arrived with butter. The scones were very good, but way too many smaller cakes compared to sandwiches. Service was poor, none came to check the food was okay or take another drinks order. Overall nice venue, and the meals around us looked nice, but was a bit disappointed celebrating a 70th with the afternoon tea.

While staying in Stromness for one night, I had seen this restaurant and liked the look of the menu. I wasn’t disappointed! The flavours were delightful, not ones I had had with sea food before. Scallops were beautifully cooked, then the lobster was divine. Chocolate dessert not too sweet either. Would definitely go back when next in Stromness.

Have been a few times and can’t fault this place at all. Starters are great and a lot of them, the main meals are really tasty and plenty to choose from. Finally the staff are outstanding and plenty of them very polite and helpful. Would recommend to anyone.

Food was fantastic! Will be back to try the steak pie as they had no pastry left when we went. Cocktails were great and the barman was really passionate about his work. Nice and clean, staff attentive too.

Twice in two weeks!this restaurant must be good..being a foodie and keen cook, the food has to be the best and this certainly was the case at The Hamnovoe.it was absolutely delicious,imaginative and ingredients from the best local sources. The service was perfect,friendly,professional and knowledgeable.we will be back and recommend .

Had booked for a quick meal before show at kings. Starter of nachos was nice but main of Philly cheese steak baguette would not recommend. We left half the baguette as it was far too sweet. Would not choose to go back

The food was delicious and the service from all the staff was amazing. The prices were really good also.

Excellent lunch and staff great

Me and my friend had a meal here before a show in the kings theatre. We got some small plates to share- Macaroni - I wouldn’t recommend, it wasn’t cheesy and the sauce was really runny Onion rings - nice, big and crispy Cajun fries - very nice! Prawns in garlic butter - quite dry, not a lot of taste Bang bang chicken - very tasty and big bits of chicken. I was disappointed with my pink gin and tonic as it came in a small glass that you would get in a bowling club. Service was quick and staff were very friendly , we also got a booth which we requested but the food wasn’t great.

We had an excellent meal. Lovely atmosphere and very helpful and cheery staff. The scallops for a starter and the lobster for main was well worth it.

easy to book, nice atmosphere, well cooked steaks, tasty and good portion. No complaints! Lovely glass of wine too. We looked for a restaurant serving steak and that's what we got, good value in our opinion. We would eat here again thanks.

Food was edible and tasty but the menu needs a revamp. Not a lot of choice for anything non burger or steak related. Menus look old and dated. Staff are very attentive and friendly. So handy for seeing a show at the Kings.

Bang bang chicken starter was lovely. Arribiata and phili steak baguette mains were disappointing . Chips cold. Staff nice and attentive.

Nice atmosphere and lovely food, good value too.
