First dined here more than 15 years ago when music biz friends took us , explaining it was a somewhat surprising‘destination seafood restaurant’. They weren’t wrong , it was a fantastic experience. Somehow, I had never returned - until Friday night, because now I am fortunate to live a mere stone’s throw from its door! It looks just as unprepossessing from the outside and still feels reassuringly un-trendy on the inside. The thing is the natural, unstuffy warmth of the staff (of a pleasing age range) and the delicious dishes. We chose from the specials board although the main menu is enticing in itself (including non-fish options). We shared a wonderfully textured warm octopus salad, my friend opted for crab main which he said was excellent, while I had sea bass tacos which were zinging with fresh flavours and served with sweet potato fries triple fried to perfection. We didn’t have dessert but our neighbours were delighted with theirs! The atmosphere was ringing with joy, laughter and simple pleasures; blissfully unpretentious. And the bill? Just over £40, including service. Ok we only had soft drinks (and a courtesy large carafe of tap water was brought to the table immediately) but with the quality of the food , the love and knowledge that goes into its selection, cooking and presentation, I’d say that’s remarkably good value.
