Disappointing, there were tables not cleared all around us. When we arrived we were told there is no hot food available. We ordered two platters that stated served with artisan bread which was a very small roll. We must have asked for some water at least 4 times before anyone actually brought us any. Food is overpriced and service needs improving.

I have to say my experience for lunch was quite spoiled by the service. We had lunch booked for 1200 and our offer was taken. We both thought it was simple as we both had the same thing. Two glasses of rose and tjebroast beef sandwich. This seemed to be where the problem started. We first had a bottle of rose and two champagne flutes brought to us. Obviously a mistake, however the order apparently stated a bottle but It was taken away and the flutes remained. A few minutes later the flutes were removed and our two glasses of rose arrived. A couple of minutes later the food arrived however my firend had her sandwich yet mine was missing. Yet again the order was wrong and apparently they didn't know we had ordered two. The server was very apologetic and asked us who had taken the order and we pointed to the waitress. So we wait for my food to arrive, when it does (different server) we are told to.pay which we do. We finally start to eat and the server who had served us the one sandwich to my friend came up to us to us to apologise again and said my sandwich would be on the house. We said we had already paid, he was very surprised and said he would sort it. Obviously this never happened and we really couldn't be bothered to wait any longer (we were there well over an hour) as the whole service had been extremely painful.

Enjoyed our meal very much. Only one complaint the tables need to be levelled so your plate doesn’t slide on to your lap. We popped a serviette underneath to keep the plates on the table. Otherwise it was a great day.

Went for an afternoon lunch at The Hatch on the lawn. Food was mediocre at best. Service was good. The atmosphere was drab. Simple changes to add a bit of aesthetic appeal is much needed.

Service was not what I expected one of my guests had Haddock and Chips and we were asked do we need knife and forks. How did he expect a lady in later years to eat her lunch. We were seated on a slope being that we were ladies of later years expect us to sit there we asked if we could sit elsewhere but told no as they were fully booked but lots of tables free. Anyway one of the ladies said we are not sitting here and a young man said we could move. Seats very uncomfortable we all had bad backs afterwards. One lunch came without salad and no chips but requested salad. One lunch asked for no slaw but arrived with slaw. If allowed service would be 1. For being allowed to move.

This was our first visit to the Hatch on the Lawn and we had mixed views. The service was excellent, quick and efficient, although we were surprised - when we asked for salt - to be presented with two small sachets between three of us. It was quite expensive yet difficult to find anything on the menu for a 12 year old and while the subs the adults ordered were well filled, and the chips delicious, I had expected more variety. Also, for me, the portions were too large so I took half of it home rather than waste it. The fixed seating was my bigest problem and not at all suitable for someone with back problems. The waitress did find me a chair but it could not be drawn up close to the table so was not very comfortable for eating. We would visit again as it is a beautiful environment on a summer day, and maybe have fish and chips, but one portion between two!

Beautiful location with the potential to deliver a great experience. However when we arrived the experience was not fantastic. The eating area is very basic and underwhelming, Most of the staff were engaged cleaning the tables and it was difficult to attract the attention of any one to take our order. The result was very frustrating. Eventually caught a staff members attention who was quick to bring our platters along with a bill which made giving a tip a requirement . Overall this was an underwhelming experience. The food was tasty and the location lovely, but would not repeat

It was very clean. The benches were not very comfortable but we coped. Food was ok ... We all had a panini which could have been toasted a little more, chips were lovely. Price was pretty cheap. Service was great. Lovely waitress. I cannot believe that dogs were allowed inside... very annoying as a dog was barking all the way through our meal! Next time I shall book inside the eatery not the Hatch.

Lovely food and location but unfortunately despite me saying we had a coeliac when I booked, there were very few gluten free options or alternatives and staff were not able to answer questions about the menu

We had a thoroughly pleasant snack here. Service was really good and friendly plus food arrived quickly. The pies were lovely!

We were disappointed with our meal here. I understand it is difficult for the hospitality sector in these dreadful Covid times but this was a very basic eating area - a tent with no atmosphere. We had read the menu beforehand but choice for food and drinks was very limited. The men enjoyed their pies and we women had the cheese and meat platters. The grandchildren had pie and fish and chips respectively. Service was haphazard, we had to request many things two or three times and we were somewhat surprised to be asked to pay our bill before we had eaten, with no account taken as to whether we would want puddings. We wanted to treat the grandchildren but this was not a gastronomic experience for them. And it was expensive. Shame. We have had a family wedding here and I once enjoyed the most delicious evening meal with friends, overlooking vineyards. Denbies can do better!

Disappointing. My husband and I booked a table for lunch. After being seated, we waited over half an hour to be served. No one came to offer drinks or take our order and we thought if it was taking this long to order we weren't prepared to then wait and see how long food was going to take to get processed. So we decided to leave. It was so disappointing and we felt totally forgotten about.

I booked an outside table for lunch with a friend on 9th June. All was set out perfectly for socially distancing and the selection of food lovely. We chose paninis which were delicious and served with a large portion of chips (so many in fact that I had to leave some, most unusual for me!). The young man who served us was really great, he had super interpersonal skills and made the experience even better. He was a credit to the establishment and I’d even come back again soon if I could guarantee he would be my waiter. Thank you it was a lovely lunch.

Summary: Rudest staff I've encountered that continually lied. Save yourself and never come here. We had the most horrendous experience on what was supposed to be a great afternoon. Events: - Originally booked lunch for 2 people through their website for 3 pm. - The day before, a friend wanted to join so I called to see if we can change the number to 3. The woman said it was possible but would need to confirm because they would have to let their catering know. Confirmed with my friend, called them back to change the reservation. - When we arrived the next day, hostess told us that the kitchen was closed and that they only served cold snacks. I asked to see the manager because our entire day out was around this lunch. A male who was the cafe manager, who looked around 18 and clearly had no customer service experience - nor cared about guests at all - came to speak to us. - Completely unapologetic. Rudely stated that there was no "caterer" to report to and there was no hot food despite our LUNCH reservation. Asked rudely if we wanted a table or not. We sat down. - After waiting a good 10-15 minutes, we had to flag someone to order. We asked what we could order because we weren't sure which cold snacks were available. Told only dessert was served. - At this point, we had been lied to again and again. Went back to speak to the rude manager and also tried to find someone else who could fix the problem. Ended up speaking to a nice woman at the front who came over to help; however, when she spoke to the 18 year old manager, the manager blatantly DENIED that he said cold snacks could be served. - Admittedly, at this point, we were all furious, and my friend starts asking why would he seat us then not provide service. He ACTUALLY then had the audacity to say that there was a reason why we weren't getting served and that we were now cut off, that we should take the hint that we were not welcome. - I have no problem being kicked out for something that I did but to be cut off because a jerk decides that I was too wasted when I was just rightfully angry with the absurdity of the situation?! - It is unfortunate when a server is rude, which happens, but to be LIED TO over the entire sequence of events, when we specifically came for lunch, only to be told there was no lunch, then to be told there was no food, then to be cut off?! I would never set foot again at Denbies again and I cannot believe management would let this happen. I hope I can spare you of a horrendous experience and appalling human behaviour and warn you to go elsewhere. Anywhere but here.

A beautiful day out - the vineyards are beautiful. The eating experience is very poor though. Limited choice and poor quality - my panini was soggy and a bit cold and no option of salad instead of chips. They'd do better off making posh picnic hampers that guests could eat on the grass.

We recently visited Denbies Wine Estate and after tour had lunch at The Hatch on the Lawn. We were initially not v impressed as not much of a Lawn more car park however we were pleasantly surprised that the food was really tasty. Would happily eat there again and recommend to anyone visiting to try it.
