Excellent food and service . Would definitely recommend and will return very soon . I am a vegetarian and was so impressed at the options available to me .
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWe were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. Service was excellent, and the food delicious. Good portions well cooked, and not rushed between courses. Will be returning soon. Thank you for a great night. Diolch.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogExcellent food and service as always. We will be back.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogReviewer accompanied Mr Passmore who made the booking. The main course was Hunters’ Chicken: Chicken flavour good, quantity small, meat dry/overcooked, poor quality main course, over priced. Dessert good. Duty manager removed cost of one beer from bill. Will not be returning, will not recommend.
The Bridge End Hotel – LlangollenThe restaurant is always on my list when I visit Porthmadog and surrounds and it never disappoints. From a friendly welcome, with an excellent memory for the evening bookers, to enjoying an after dinner coffee by the fire, this is a gem of a place. The menu is varied and extensive. From the starters to the desserts with the specials (lobster was on the menu when I visited) everything is prepared and served with élan, you are never rushed and the staff take as much pleasure in your choices as you do. I book for my next visit as I pay my bill and spend the time between remembering the pleasure.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogFour of us for lunch. Fish & chips enjoyed by three of us but one lacked mushy peas which should have been included. Hunters chicken was very disappointing as chicken was dry, overcooked & whole meal very small. Service was unattentive & sleepy.
The Bridge End Hotel – LlangollenSuperb pub, 28 meals, all cooked perfectly and arrived on time for my sons pre wedding meal. Accommodation fabulous. Rooms beautiful! Wont hesitate to return . Thank you
The Bridge End Hotel – LlangollenGorgeous food as always. Helpful pleasant staff. Lovely restaurant
The Victoria Inn – BarmouthI had reserved a table for Sunday lunch for 4 people on the 5th October 2025. We placed our meal and drinks orders. In the meantime two other couples were seated after us, after quite a long wait we realised that both of the other tables were served their food before us. When we enquired about this they're reasoning and explanation for this was because the others seated were just tables of two?? That reason given did not answer our question? When the food came it wasn't as warm as expected. The gravy had been pre poured. Most restaurants serve gravy boats so that you can put as little or as much gravy as you want over your dinner. Unfortunately I had very little gravy covering my veg, so I asked for more. When it came to paying the bill they had charged an extra £2 for requesting more gravy. We also had to replace two forks that were dirty prior to our food being served. The food itself when it arrived was well cooked and mostly tasty, it was a shame that it was not served as warm as it should have been. Our waiters were all very pleasant. One more thing to add, if you expect a view of the river as advertised then just a heads up, there is no view. When I enquired about upstairs seating, they said that there was no upstairs seating for Sunday lunch.
The Bridge End Hotel – LlangollenWe give this restaurant a 5 star plus, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone in fact have already done so. The quality of the food is first class as is the reception and the service.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogFood and service were perfect. We will definitely be back.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogHello, stayed overnight had 2 of the 3 courses off the Sunday lunch menu, couldn't fit the 3rd in but the first 2 were lovely thanks. I was a bit sceptical on curried parsnip soup but it was very nice, and had beef with vegetables, the vegetables being the highlight. The beef was nice but I prefer a bit more tender. The breakfast was very nice aswell , again the bacon a little overcooked for my liking but it was nice for a change.
The Bridge End Hotel – LlangollenJust perfect.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogOutstanding! A meal for 18 people to celebrate a birthday. Food was prepared to perfection and the service was brilliant.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWe had an evening meal on Tuesday and Thursday last week. I di not normally go back to the same place to eat whilst on holiday but the meal on Tuesday was so good that the 4 of us agreed that to go anywhere else would result in us being disappointed. The ribs and the burgers on the Tuesday were excellent and we all found alternatives which we enjoyed equally on the Thursday. Staff were polite, helpful and efficient. The price for the quality and quantity of food cannot be matched. The place was full both evenings and we are glad that we had booked. We didn't have desserts but they all looked delicious. One of the best pub meals you will find. 4 very happy customers. Thank you.
The Victoria Inn – BarmouthAbsolutely delicious experience - from the slate cliffs behind the handsome Tremadoc square to Y Sgwar itself . Apart from the cavalier parking habits in the town square, as soon as they sat us at a table that showed they had paid attention to our request, the young professional staff were attentive and friendly and the food was sublime - tasty, succulent, reasonably priced. A v special place full of Friday night buzz and locals.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogLovely food and atmosphere will return
