Excellent steaks - especially the rib eye - probably best in North Yorkshire. Couldn't recommend it more. Great Yorkshire hospitality too! Not too pricey.

Blackwell Ox Inn – YorkFriendly locals pub, serves good value home cooked meals. Nice place for a decent beer and good pub food, not too far out of city centre. Also has letting bedrooms, fairly basic but really good value for money! If you need a cheap bed in York this is the place!
Edinburgh Arms – Yorkthe best Indian restaurant experience that i have had in years 5 star
Akbars – YorkVery good chinese restaurant serving generous portions of good authentic chinese food and dim sum. Whenever I have visitors we never fail to frequent Maxis. Pity the Leeds branch is no where near as good!
Maxis – YorkWe have been trying to track down the chef originally from The Blue Bicycle for quite some time and last week we found him, the new owner of Ate O'Clock. We had a wonderful evening helped by the fact that the staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was great and the food fantastic. The owner/chef is extremely attentive and helps to make you feel very special. Go and have a look...The best chef in York!! In our opinion the best chef in York...Go and have a look...
Ate O Clock – YorkI found the Blue Bicycle to be distinctive but not necessarily in the most positive way. The wine list was adequate with a number of Languedocian wines from Southern France. For a starter i had the fried baby rabbit, a delicate dish with a somewhat arid aftertaste, the bitter sauce was not appropriately in tune with the nature of the dish. For the main course i had the foie gras, unusual as a main, however, it was presented reasonably well, though the technique required to cook such a dish is not particularly challenging. The price of these two dishes was well within my range, and the service was curt yet not impolite. With so many restaurants in York i think i will be going elsewhere in future.
Blue Bicycle – YorkJust been to BoBo LoBo for our work Christmas party. A table of 14 eating at 9pm wasn't an issue for them at all, even though they're a really small venue. We pre-ordered in advance - a selection of starters between us which were all excellent, and a variety of mains. The fajitas were the best, the steak and ribs great, and the half chicken dish was gigantic (could have done with some sort of sauce or salsa with it though). We had loads of wine and beers and shots of vodka, and still only managed to spend less than £470 between 14 of us, which we considered a bargain. The staff were really accommodating, turning the music down for us once everyone else had left the dining area, letting us stay at and move around our tables so we could play some games, and being swift to respond whenever we required booze top-ups. We moved to the downstairs bar at 1am where the atmosphere was really nice, some people had a dance and others just chatted in the bar. Music was good and the other clientele didn't seem in the least bit clique-y which you get in some of the latin joints in Leeds. All in all an excellent night out!
BoBo LoBo – YorkHaving been to both the Akbars in Leeds in knew what to expect, decor was similar modernist (bit to much red lighting for me but that's just personal taste), poppadoms arrived these were soft and to be honest tasted like either yesterdays or some left over from the Lunch serving, not impressed at all, main course was hot with decent sized portions, however the food was totally over salted to the point where all you could taste was salt, I had ordered the Lamb and spinach balti which fro all the world was a lamb sagg by any other name, price was a little on the high side for an Indian but not ridiculous, got to be honest all in all not impressed with the food in this Akbars the one on Greek St in Leeds is better.
Akbars – YorkBeing Coeliac and holidaying with my friend from Germany, we were thrilled with the intimate, inclusive atmosphere, the exquisite food and the confidence to know my food intolerance was understood and did not detract from the wonderful menu choices. Can't wait to go back.
Ate O Clock – YorkThe table was booked for 6 and we were left stood outside until 6.15 only to enter a freezing cold silent restaurant, which didn't change until we left. The waitress knew nothing about the menu nor anything relating to what was in the food. The duck starter was full of grit and the mussels were tasteless. Scallop and prawn kebab was sparse and tasteless, as was the lamb. We struggled to eat the food with the background of 2 microwaves constantly in use and waitress/ chef small talk. Two other tables complained and we had one meal taken from the bill. VERY DISSAPIONTING- AVOID.
Lime House The – YorkNew owners!! New Atmosphere!! Great staff! Great food! Great Beer!
Bluebell Inn – YorkThis is one of my favorite restaurants in York. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is always lively, even during the week. The staff cannot do enough for you. Gnocchi Dolcelatte is fantastic.
La Piazza – YorkMy family and I went to this cosy Leeds pub on a Sunday afternoon after a stroll down the nearby Leeds / Liverpool canal. The outside of the pub has changed significantly since our last visit in that the pub has a fantastic heated outside smoking area, very continental in styling and a lovely place to sit and pass the afternoon. The interior is still olde worlde as I remember it from my last visit and is warm and inviting. The most pleasing change I noticed from my last visit is in the quality of welcome and service we received. Everyone is greeted like an old friend, with genuine old fashioned hospitality. The beer is fantastic, a minimum of 6 different cask ales from local breweries as well as a more than adequate selection of Malt whisky. The food is a joy to behold, hot, tasty and restaurant quality, with service to match. Oh and the home cooked desserts are to die for! Will definitely be back to this quirky but friendly public house in the very near future. Recommended to all!
Abbey Inn – YorkWe visited the ate o'clock restaurant as a party of 5 adults and 2 children under 4. I have to say it was an excellent experience the staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome like we were the only guests there. The food was excellent the wine was nice and very well priced. EXCELLENT!!!
Ate O Clock – YorkWe were made welcome on arrival, the service was calm and efficient, the ambience good. The food, from the chef's tit-bit of poached pear in balsamic to the desserts every thing was perfectly cooked and presented. The wine list was varied and not overpriced. The best restaurant experience we have had in many a year
Ate O Clock – YorkWe have been regularly visiting the Go-Down for a number of years. The food and service has been consistently good throughout that time beginning with its welcoming loaf of warm bread . Portions (unless you opt for the early bird menu are daunting. Even going for the early bird it is a struggle to accommodate all three courses. It would be hard to find better quality and value for money.
Go Down The – YorkI loved everything about this restaurant. The food was excellent and we also sampled the Turkish wine which we quite enjoyed. We had the mezze and thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate and the cost of the whole meal including drinks was extremely reasonable. Will definitely go again.
Kapadokya – YorkWent to Ate O'Clock last night on the strength of the reviews on this site, and are very glad we did. 'Small, but perfectly formed' probably sums the place up; food was spot-on - generous portions and cooked beautifully; not cheap, but fairly-priced. Staff very friendly, offering chef's tasters between courses. Had to wait a little while when we first arrived due to a large group in just before us, but didn't spoil the meal. Chef visited all the tables at the end of the evening to check if everyone was happy, which was a nice touch you don't see very often. To top it all there was a great musician there all night. A really amiable chap with an acoustic guitar and encyclopedic repertoire of great music. It really gave the place a great ambiance
