Bert

A traditional pub which is the life and blood of its community. I frequented this splendid pub while on archaeological excavations in Trellech during the Summer 2007 period. The food there was really nice with a large menu selection to suit all palets. The choice of beverages presented to the punter was not only aesthetically pleasing but the ultimate punters paradise. All ales are changed usually within three days and there are many great country and house ciders to choose from. Also on offer at certain times in the year are the whisky festivals held regularly in the pub which not being the most avid whiskey fan enjoyed trying out a few of the vast selections that this pub offered. It has been given past awards for Best Pub , and this is made present on entering why it deserved the prestigious accolade. The owners are the most friendly and welcoming owners I have ever met and the Hungarian dog that they own is very friendly and entertaining. A place for both old and young alike!

A very nice restaurant with warm and friendly staff. The meals there were very good value for money and also had a free pint in with my meal. In close proximity to the cinema and the leisure centre and a brisk walk to the town. I went with a group of my friends and would certainly recommend this pub as it is both family friendly, and every one who go there are given a great welcome.

Went there for lunch on Friday. Can say that the Carvery was well presented and a good choice of vegetables was on offer. The gravy was absolutely delicious and could tell that it was home made! The staff were very attentive to the needs of its diners and were happy to please. You could not go to far wrong as the carvery meals were an inexpensive £4.99 per adult and £2.99 for child. Also worth mentioning was the ales that the pub had to offer which was very pleasing as they offered choices both in bottled form and from the tap with the Banks Beer being sold for just £2, with drinks offers being extensively renewed and updated. A quality pub in the heart of Felinfoel!

I would not recommend the cedar tree, we went there for my fathers 70th Birthday at 7.30 on 23.06.08, no steak left so had to re-order 8 meals, husband and son had lamb shank and have been sick and had upset stomach all night. Order not taken until 8.20pm waitress very nice and apologetic, I blame it on bad management.

We've been coming to this place for years now and it is astounding how the service is so consistently Beautiful! The food is excellent as always but the fact of the matter is the cocktails. Fine fun, two very enthusiastic thumbs up!

Very reasonably priced for a central pub. Food was really nice and the staff were really friendly to my family.

We eat here regularly and the food is always superb and is prepared just how you want it. The minestrone soup is different every time, so must be fresh. Service very friendly and relaxed. Do try it soon.

When I was told we would be dining at the Greyhound Vaults, I looked it up online for a review. As Abergavenny is a foodie town I would have assumed a review of some sort might be found. Nada! When I called to enquire and book a table, after many cut off and non-connected phone calls I got a very rude man who seemed extremely flustered and just demanded to know time slot I wanted - 12:15 or 2pm. After clarifying there was veggie option and other meal particulars, I hesitantly booked. Major mistake. Upon arrival I thought I had walked into a dated tea room with pastel multi-layered painted textured wallpaper that looked as though it had been there since 1969. The carpet reminded me of a retirement village dinning hall, as did the present diners. When seated we realised my worst nightmare - the set menu Sunday lunch with the most uninviting meal descriptions ever. I detest being told what to eat for a set price. I enquired as to an a-la carte menu, but told there that was it. Then a tall grey haired man in chef’s kit approached my table and spoke down to me (literally) stating that there was no need for the restaurant to offer anything else on Sundays as everybody liked his restaurant just fine - presumably the local blue-rinse brigade who all looked thoroughly miserable supping soup on this beautiful sunny summers’ day, I might add. It was more or less suggested that I like it or lump it. I promptly decided that this man did not want, nor did he deserve, my hard earned cash and took my table of hungry diners to the competition around the corner - The Angel Hotel. The food & service there was superb. I now realise why no one has written a review of the Greyhound Vaults. If the food was as bad as the ambience (and the owner/chef) then I’d guess that anybody with an appreciation of good dining never went back there. If you like lifeless dinning on a Sunday afternoon then head to the Greyhound Vaults in Abergavenny. If you prefer great food, polite and friendly service in comfortable surroundings, go somewhere else!

The Cardiff Arms has new owners, and reopened in March of this year (2008) following a major refurbishment. Live music every Friday Night

Cardiff Arms Hotel, The – Aberdare
Local Not Yokal

Nice place, beamed ceilings food good value for money but Mon to wed 2 meals for 9.99 from a limited but ok menu. rest of the week evening meals more expensive than at lunchtime I notice. Helpful staff who are polite and fresh flowers around the place make it welcoming. Now the smoking an is in place by far nicer to go to. however people do tend to smoke right outside the open door which means it drift in. I believe that according to guidelines this shouldn't be the case. Now have a guest ale as well but think there should be more proper ales thay are popular. The drink priced there are however expensive. and with 20p pot on the price of a pint b4 the budget 2008 this means stella is almost £3.00 a pint and carlburg is £2.85. Thats more expensive than Cardiff centre. Was told it was the brewery not them that increased the price. Contacted the brewery and told drink prices in this establishment was at the landlords discretion....Wot can i say??? there are some down sides to the place, though it has a nice size carpark just up the road people tend to try and park rigt outside and in fine weather if the outside seating is full pedestrians have to push past with little room for them on the pavement between seating and cars. The gentleman's lavatories off the lounge are in dire need of refurbishment although clean. This pub also welcomes families which can be a mixed blessing. if its school holidays and you have a well behaved 12 yr old with you that's one thing if its a 2 week old baby that's another !! When I go out for lunch I don't want a screaming baby next to me Furthermore i don't expect the child to be changed in the main lounge area nor the back "restaurant "area directly in front of me!!! Although beyond the control of the publicans it IS their choice to allow such small children in. The only two other things is that firstly this place doesn't take cards which is a shame. People, inc me in the past ,have had to go to the cashpoint opposite at the local garage which doesn't always work ad Inst free ! The second has already been mentioned and that's the element of swearing by customers in the bar which is very audible in the lounge...and I mean a lot of swearing at the crudest of levels so maybe not as family suitable as you may first think.

Ye Olde Wine House Inn – Bridgend
Local Not Yokal

Nice place go here a bit. Nice Sunday lunches but staff seem to get muddled on a more wider menu and mid week evening meal service can be slow. Drinks not cheap

Angel Inn – Bridgend
Local Not Yokal

love the place nice steaks

Watermill, The – Bridgend

excellent home cooked food by Mandy, friendly local pub with great atmosphere - try the surfing pig!

Ye Olde Inn – Haverfordwest
Lee

A lovely family run pub! (which seems to be a thing of the past these days) Excellent value for money as portion sizes were generous. A beautiful location with stunning views across the valley. This is a pub, therefore waitress service is not available for drinks, so if you sit on your bum the drinks wont come!

The Scotch Pine Inn – Ammanford
Andy

new owners . all change

Tafarn Jem – Lampeter

We started eating at the restaurant when our son was born 3 years ago as it was close to our home. Not only have we enjoyed many a Sunday lunch, but chose to hold a Christening for 30 + guests which I can only describe as out of this world. One auntie likening it to a mini weeding. Christophe and his staff are most attentive at all times and the food of the most excellent quality. If you want to be impressed or want a meal to go well. This is the place for you.
