Alfreds Bar and Grill – PontypriddVery nice pub with a friendly atmosphere. The food is nice and they have a good selection of drinks. They also have most sporting events showing on one of the many televisions scattered around the pub including one in the outside covered smoking shed. There is also a nice garden with childrens play area. Quiz night is on Tuesday. i would recommend it to anyone and would give it 8/10. :)
Commercial Inn Giant Plates – SwanseaWe booked a table at The Ship for it's opening night (May 3 2008)The only thing to say was excellent. The food is all locally produced and cooked by the new chef Gareth and his team. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and you can watch the chefs preparing your meal. The staff are attentive and really look after you. If you are in the area it's worth phoning to make a booking, if your not in the area, it's still worth travelling. Highly recommended
Ship Inn – LlandysulThis pub should be a real winner. Thatched roof, beautiful surroundings, loads of history.. and ... THE RUDEST STAFF EVER. My wife and I had a memorable (for all the wrong reasons) meal here. When going to the bar to order, the chap in front tried to order but hadnt taken his table number. He pointed to his wife just 5 metres away and said "That table" in the empty corner they were sat on. The lady behind the bar insisted that he get her the number (even though I would hope the staff knew the table numbers.. How do they get the food out??). Alarm bells were then ringin when I ordered the mixed grill and asked for my steak to be done medium. I was told that i would have to have my steak "as it comes, as there is a lot for the chef to keep an eye on" !!! I was so stunned, I didnt even think of doing what i should have, which was to walk out. I paid and sat down.. still stunned. The catalogue of rudeness un un helpfulness could be witnessd from our table thoughout the evening. It was the only subject of conversation betwen my wife and I. The food was OK, although we were suprised for the table to be set(incorrectly) and starters served by the eight year old grandaughter. Never again will I visit the White Hart until I hear of a change of management. AVOID at all costs
White Hart Thatched Inn and Brewery, The – Carmarthenthe Ship Inn Llangrannog is now under new ownership (2008), and I can highly recommend their food. It is all local produce and all freshly cooked even the bread is made on the premises everyday. It is top quality for taste, and for service the owners and staff are all very friendly and very welcoming. This is not PUB food.
Ship Inn – LlandysulVery disappointing - and I am very disappointed to read that you only put positive recommendations on your site. how are discerning eaters trying to find a really decent place to eat going to do that if all your postings are positive? We tried to have lunch at The Salt Cafe on the weekend. We were on holiday, and feeling very relaxed. However after an hour waiting for our meal we got really irritated. And we were waiting for ONE HOUR for a vegetarian foccacia (which arrived untoasted) and fish and chips - not rocket science - to be served. They arrived as we had decided we had waited long enough, and the presentation and quality of the food was appalling. This was disappointing because it looked a nice enough cafe, and the menu looked really appetizing and modern actually. The manager on duty apologised in a completely apathetic way. The restaurant was only half full, if that, so we were expecting him to say that they were short-staffed that day, or something. But nothing. We heard at the next restaurant we went to that the restaurant is under new ownership and has had a refrubishment. It clearly isn't off to a good start, and we were completely disappointed with the service in many ways. There are few excuses for needing to take an hour to make a sandwich, nor were any offered by the defensive manager. They would do well to learn what customer service is all about and maybe their restaurant would be full on a long weekend.
Salt at the George – SwanseaTerrible food , frozen reheated tasteless and offensive. Recent refurb is excellent and very inviting but if you are going to turn out dire food you are not going to survive. What a great disappointment our evening meal turned out to be , no thought or effort put into the food whatsoever.
Castell Mynach – PontyclunI have visited the Hardwick several times over the past few months and every time has been better than the last. The food is outstanding and an evident sing of a truly talented chef. The restaurant is warm and cosy and the staff are very accommodating and polite. All in all a very positive experience
The Hardwick – AbergavennyHad Sunday lunch there on 27/04/08. Excellent lunch! Three of us went & the three different meals were faultless from starters to desert. A pleasure to eat there. The restaurant is smart & in a beautiful location right on the side of the River Cothi. If there was a very minor niggle, it would be about making sure people could find the front door easier! :)
Cresselly Arms – CarmarthenON ENTERING THE ESTABLISHMENT ON SUNDAY 27-04-08 AT APPROX. 2.30PM MY PARTNER AND I FOUND THE GREETING DESK UNMANNED (QUITE NORMAL IN OUR EXPERIENCE AS REGULAR DINERS. THERE WERE A NUMBER OF VACANT TABLES ALBEIT THAT THEY WERE YET TO BE CLEARED OF PREVIOUS DINERS DEBRIS. WE SAT OURSELVES AT SUCH A TABLE AND WAITED. AFTER A PERIOD IN EXCESS OF 10 MINS WE NOTICED A MEMBER OF STAFF CLEARING ANOTHER TABLE AND WHEN SHE HAD COMPLETED HER TASK WE RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED THAT OUR TABLE BE CLEARED SO THAT WE MAY PLACE OUR ORDER. THE STAFF MEMBER DULY REMOVED TWO PLATES FROM A HEAVILY LADEN TABLE AND WHEN SHE RETURNED SHE, RATHER STRANGELY, ENQUIRED WHETHER OR NOT THE TABLE HAD BEEN CLEARED BEFORE WE SAT DOWN. ALTHOUGH RATHER OBVIOUSLY A RIDICUOLOUS QUESTION MY PARTNER RESPONDED "NO". THE YOUNG LADY THEN LEFT AND SOME 5-6 MINS LATER REAPPERED FROM THE KITCHEN AND PROCEEDED TO COMMENCE CLEARING ANOTHE TABLE WITHOUT ANY REFERENCE OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO OURSELVES. SHE KEPT LOOKING OVER HER SHOULDER TOWARDS US BUT DESPITE PASSING US TWICE FURTHER DID NOTHING. IT WAS AT THAT TIME APPROX. 2.55PM WE DECIDED THAT WE HAD NO INTENTION OF DINING IN AN ESTABLISHMENT THAT OPENLY DISPLAYED UTTER DISDAIN FOR IT'S CUSTOMERS. NOT ONLY WILL WE NO LONGER FREQUENT THE PARC-Y-PRIOR ON A WEEKLY (SOMETIMES MORE) BASIS BUT WE WILL BOTH ENDEAVOUR TO RELATE OUR APPALLING TREATMENT TO FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES AND OBVIOUSLY FAMILY MEMBERS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PASS ON Y E-MAIL DETAILS TO THE ACTUAL OWNERS OF THE SO CALLED BUSINESS NOT THE OPERATORS AS THEY OBVIOUSLY CONDONE SUCH BEHAVIOUR BY ALLOWING IT TO HAPPEN. P.S. WE DID DINE TODAY BY TRAVELLING A FEW MILES AND QUITE HAPPILY PAID A THIRD MORE FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING ACKNOWLEDGED, FED AND TREATED AS A VALUED CUSTOMER - AND WE THOUGHT THAT WAS WHAT THE SERVICE SECTOR WAS ALL ABOUT.
Parc Y Prior – NewportI have just returned home from an evening at this restaurant and I can safely say it was the worst Indian meal I have ever had. We went as a party of six for my nieces birthday. The service was shocking with the waiters being abupt and rude. My meal was sent back twice as the chicken had not been cooked through. We had to ask for cutlery for main course were left waiting for the naan breads, drinks etc. I eventually had my meal when everyone else had finished. The food was bland I cannot believe how this restaurant could have won the award for best curry house in Wales. Were the judges drunk on complimentary drinks? The restaurant was fully booked and the waiter did admit that there were not enough staff to deal with the demand. The chief was rushing the meals and sending out food not cooked enough. It was a highly disappointing evening. The price of my meal was deducted from the bill but the whole evening had been a disaster. I recommend sticking your local restaurant or takeaway.
Sheesh Mahal Tandoori Restaurant – LlanelliOutstanding little restaurant and take-away. Food is absolutely brilliant and is the best in Newport. I have been a customer for 15 years and would always go there rather than anywhere else in Newport. The Honour Garden has evolved from a basic takeaway into a really plush and beautiful experience with excellent prices too. If you have not tried it, get there quick. This is NOT the boss but a customer without any prompting either.
Honour Garden – NewportI WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY. WE WAITED 35 MINUTES FOR OUR MEAL AND IT WAS NOT WORTH WAITING FOR. THERE WAS ABOUT 6 CHIPS ON THE PLATE, THE MIXED LEAVES LOOKED AS IF THEY HAD BEEN THROWN ON THE PLATE. MY HUSBAND SENT THE CORN ON THE COB BACK BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE BOUNCED OFF THE FLOUR. THEY HAD THE NERVE TO PUT IT ANOTHER DISH AND SEND IT BACK,AS A FRESH ONE.TEETHMARKS STILL IN PLACE.
White Rose Hotel – SwanseaI love the food here, its authentic Italian!! I'll go back time and time again!!
Bosco Nero – BlackwoodI love the food here, its authentic Italian!! I'll go back time and time again!!
Bosco Nero – BlackwoodStephen Terry's eclectic menu combines British and European cooking, using the best of local ingredients. The Hardwick has established a first-class reputation in a remarkably short time.
The Hardwick – AbergavennyShort menu, great and varied food, friendly, welcoming staff, terrific atmosphere, good wines and beers: along with The Hardwick at Abergavenny it's the best for miles around.
Raglan Arms – Monmouthsimply stunning - evening meal commenced with stuffed tomato, baked with herbs and spices, intense rich flavour yet remarkably light - ravioli filled with crab & lime puree simple yet sumptuous - main course "the legendary" beef wellington - Welsh black fillet steak smothered with pate de fois grais wrapped in parma ham & finally enveloped in the lightest egg washed shortcrust pastry - words fail me - this is the finest cuisine I have tasted - the steak simply melted - the pastry was infused with aromas of steak and it's wrappers - moist on the inside yet crispy and golden on the outside - baked to perfection resulting in a medium to rare cooked steak - accompanied by roast fennal, onions, dijon potatoes & julien of roasted veg - the visual impact of garnished dish was soon eclipsed by the richness, intensity and texture of tastes - desert arrived as a mixture of freshly made sorbets - summer fruits, kiwi & mandarin - topped with crystalised fruit and chocolate netting - these little stunners were light, refreshing with an essential concentrated fruit flaovour - all in all 3 courses of sheer luxury - I cannot fault the food, service, welcome or surroundings - a 3 course evening meals @ £29.95 dispels the preconception that eating @ the Coed - Y - Mwster is expensive - food of this quality is worth more than the table price -yes bar prices are expensive - a large G&T costs £6.95 - a pint of lager £3.00 -house wines commence @ £14.95 - exercise restraint @ the bar and you can afford to eat here more often - whats wrong with a nightcap in the comfort of home? - forget the image that this hotel is populated by the gin & jag brigade - I wore jeans & casual shirt -the Edwardian surroundings with log fires & high backed chairs add to the experience -the "Old Pictonians Perambulations Society" is dedicated to the "persuit of fine cuisine" @ the Coed-Y-Mwster we found it -go there & enjoy - you will not be disappointed - highly recommended
