The service was immpeccable. I was greatly impressed with both the food and the quality of service; the waitresses always had a friendly smile. The atmosphere was very welcoming and i enjoyed my meal greatly.

Lowther Castle Inn – Penrithdunno whats happened to this place. 2 years ago i visited and really enjoyed. This time poor service microwaved food and in general i felt like my being there was putting staff out. Noticed that the pub across the road is now doing food ( station hotel) and on speaking to some locals have discovered that its now the place to go for food in town. Am back in a couple of weeks and will give it a go.
Agricultural Hotel – PenrithExcellent Food the best in the area
Royal Oak – Grange-over-Sandsveg was soggy! bar man though friendly was appeared to be getting more and more drunk making my wife feel very uncomfortable letter in room said breakfast was until 9.30 but was told it finished at 9 no apology no alternative offered ie reduced rate. lovely village though
The Ship Inn – UlverstonThe Apple Pie looked inviting and was nicely decorated throughout. There was an ample number of staff and a few diners. Having been greeted by a member of staff on our entrance we took a seat, browsed the menu and waited to be served. After 15 minutes, no one came to take our order or acknowledged us again. We waited patiently for a further 10 minutes trying to politely gain the waiters attention, but we were continued to be ignored. We finally requested for our order to be taken when we were told we would have to wait until they had taken the order of another customer that had only walked in 5 minutes earlier! After waiting for 25 minutes, being ignored despite more than adequate staffing levels and now feeling rather hungry we got up and left and eventually find a very nice cafe called 'Lucy's on a Plate' which had staff that knew how to give good customer service. Unfortunately I cannot pass comment on any other areas of the Apple Pie only that the Staff are incredibly rude and that I will not be going back.
Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery – AmblesideFrom living in carlisle and having experienced all of carlisles currys houses. My partner and i would strongly suggest going there! This is the closet you will get to a proper curry!!Particularly recommend the Lamb Saag and Lamb Jalfrezi .....and get them spiced up the chefs are happy to cater to your taste.Plus the poppadoms and pickles are amazing, especially the chilli and lime pickles. Try it you wont be let down!
Stanwix Tandoori – CarlisleSillfield Farm shop can't be overestimated. The meat is FANTASTIC... just try adding a few rashers of their bacon to a Pasta Amatriciana... you will never taste anything like it. Also, the staff are fantastic - they will advise you on how to cook their products, and always engage in a heart conversation. Long live Sillfield!
Sillfield Farm Products – KendalWe have been going to Jacksons for 10 years (first place we go to everytime we visit the lakes) It seems to us that the owners have a passion for their Restaurant, and it shows. The same staff have been there for years, which is telling in it's self. The food is really very good and the atmosphere is relaxing and friendly. Try the specials board, is a treat.
Jacksons Bistro – WindermereQuite simply, the Wordsworth Hotel was the most disappointing hotel experience ever. We’ve stayed in Grasmere lots of times, at various different hotels, B&Bs or rental cottages but we’d always fancied trying the Wordsworth. The occasion was my Dad’s 80th birthday. The worst thing was the service, but the rooms weren’t much better. At dinner, it took hours to get everyone served - it was like something from Gordon’s Kitchen Nightmares. The food wasn’t that great - over-fancy and way overpriced. We’d expected good, wholesome Cumbrian fare. My mother ordered steak and her face was something to behold when three tiny pieces of meat in a fancy sauce arrived. It would have been funny if it hadn’t been a very special family event getting ruined. And if the whole thing hadn’t been costing an arm and a leg. They couldn’t even manage to serve breakfast promptly and efficiently. We had to ask for everything at least 3 times: tea, toast and so on. The rooms were really dingy and in need of a good lick of paint. We had blood-stained wallpaper in ours. My sister and her boyfriend had a shower that didn’t work and - worse still - a toilet that didn’t flush. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. The pool was grubby too. It had that uncared for feel about it. There were two unwanted, shabby old sofas in one corner. The Jacuzzi was stone cold despite us and other guests complaining to the management. In the gym, the rowing machine didn’t work either. We did complain several times whilst there - as did other guests. In fact, I sat in reception for ten minutes and witnessed three different sets of guests complaining about various things. My mother wrote to the hotel in September, immediately after our stay. My mother has phoned the Wordsworth several times to ask why they have not had the courtesy to reply. It’s now over two months later and we haven’t heard a word. I really wouldn’t recommend this hotel. There are some lovely hotels in Grasmere, many cheaper than this one but with a much higher standard of accommodation, food and service.
The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa – GrasmereWe came to stay for a couple of nights and ended up staying for two weeks, fantastic, relaxing with very friendly service. A home from home. Highly recommended.
Heather Glen Country Hotel – CarlisleFantastic all day breakfast. Good quality bacon & sausage. Owners & staff very friendly. Live in Halifax and never miss a visit when we are here.
Butterfingers – Grange-over-SandsWe visited the Jintana for our birthdays on Saturday. We had already booked a table beforehand however on our arrival we were abruptly greeted and shown to our table after about 5 minutes later. We had to ask to order our drinks before waiting another 10 minutes before we were asked if we were ready to order froma waitress who clearly didn't want to be there! We ordered the £6 per person combination starter expecting it to be mixture of authentic thai food. What arrived was a mixture of 4 different deep fried starters one of which was burnt!. After asking the same miserable waitress to change it it came back 10 minutes later with the offending burnt prawn toast having been replaced but the rest if the starter was stone cold, they hadn't bothered to change the whole dish. Next came the the main course or should I rephrase this "thrown at us" of chewy unseasoned Pad Thai noodles with 4 rubbery prawns. The green thai curry was better but I have seen bigger sugar bowls. we weren't asked whether the food was satisfactory or whether we needed additional drinks. Allin all it was a very poor £37.00 worth of non authentic food. We eat out alot and work and live in Manchester city centre so we know what constitutes good thai food. If you want a nice meal out in Bowness I would highly recommed Sol Bar & Tapas, the food, service and ambience was second to none!
Jintana Thai – WindermereMy partner & i came for my birthday as it is my favourite place & i am never disappointed. would like to ad tho this time we were sat by what i think is a disused door in the front of the restaurant, there was a terrible draught coming through it. I sat there very cold, a curtain over it would definitely do the trick
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonBrilliant place, great food. Would certainly recommend Diggles to my friends.
Diggles – Barrow-in-FurnessVery good Hotel lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and brilliant food
Trout Hotel – CockermouthA very warm and friendly atmosphere. Cosy real fires in the bar as well as the dining room. Worth many more future visits.
Strickland Arms The – PenrithAvoid at all costs. Payed £50 for a grotty room with paper thin walls. Went down for breakfast in the morning to be told there was none because the manager had gone home. No apology. Staff rude. Strange smell to the place.
Bridge Hotel – KendalA lovely warm welcome awaited us as we booked into the Golden Fleece Inn. This is a family run pub and it shows in their commitment to providing customer service. No ask was too much. We were greeted with a pot of tea and fruit scones! The food in the bar was very good and reasonably priced and the staff were pleasant and helpful. We had a lovely three days staying at this inn and we will be returning again soon.
