Lamplighter Dining Rooms – WindermerePub Grub, very basic menu, meat was poor lamb henry very fatty and meat tough, steak chassuer - no way was it a 10oz steak, very thin and tasted of nothing. Chassuer sauce could have bee tiined tomatoes. A definite no no
Ship Inn At Roose – Barrow-in-FurnessHaving eaten at the bridge for the third year running i feel yet to be impressed AGAIN! Having read a good review pleasantly displayed proudly by the bar all i can say is what a lie. But where to begin, PIE=Dry on the off chance that i may have been offered some gravy i asked. 3pounds .50, what a joke for what i can only describe as a reasonable recreation of my housemates bistro on sausage and mash night. All i can say is don't bother wasting your time and money as well as theirs.
Bridge Hotel – CockermouthThis hotel/restaurant has really friendly staff and a great homely feeling. The two owners are very talkative and you get a great buzz off all the staff and the whole place feels more personal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anybody looking for a tranquil afternoon tea in the gardens or stay longer for the superb 3 course dinner. 5* in my opinion!
Rothay Manor – AmblesideDifficult to fault this one! Gorgeous old Victorian country home, beautifully restored. Furnishings per period, but lovely and comfortable. Very quiet, restful, great walks nearby. Some super pubs (Try Fat Lamb) for dinners. Breakfast v. good. The owner is a gem. Priced very reasonably. I paid 60 per night for two of us incl breakfast. Definite return venue.
Brownber Hall Country House – Kirkby StephenThis little tea room is quaint, old, and very welcoming. The food is home made, the service is relaxed, the furniture old and the atmosphere warm, especially after a wet rainy day in the lakes. There's a big collection of teas, the rarebit is delicious as are the cakes and it's been there for years!
Baldreys – GrasmereNice place shame about the owners attitude. We sent a fizzy bottle of wine back and the chef /Owner came out very aggressively and said there was nothing wrong with it, he did eventually begrudgingly replaced it but this I am afraid was rude and not nice. however I have been previously and the food was ok. If the owner does read this hopefully he may consider a customer service course before he goes out of business because people of this nice town will not tolerate this.
Tarantella Restaurant – CockermouthWe visited the Wheatsheaf having dined here some years ago when we were truly taken by the old world charm of the pub. Unfortunately, post refurbishment, this has now gone, to leave a soulless, contemporary eating establishment which, i'm sure caters for many but also excludes the majority. A little pricey, however, would have happily paid the price for a return to the old world charm of the crooked beams, real log fire and real pub experience we have had here previously. A great shame - when it's gone , it's gone. Fortunately there are still a number of traditional pubs still remaining with that real, traditional feel one would expect in this area.
The Wheatsheaf Inn – Kendalvery disappointing staff where rude and food was tasteless especially for the price we paid and the amount we got was even more disappointing.
The Pennington Hotel – HolmrookAlways busy, this is a great place which has never failed to disappoint.
Ali Taj Restaurant – Whitehavenroast lamb was excellent as was the homemade rhubarb pie
Crown Inn The – Penrithwe were recommended the royal oak as a place to stay originally, the stay was comfortable but it was the food they really impressed us really delicious home cooked food. the staff were lovely!
Royal Oak Inn – CarlisleI really dont know why people rave about this place I have been to loads of thai restaurants the inside does not even look very thai english flowers on table and very english looking menu on front very unimpressive inside the only thing thai was the waitress in thai costume, had weeping tiger which is always served sizzling and hot it was plain beef with salad and cold sauce separate for over nine pounds not worth it did mention this but the owner was not bothered will not recommend this restaurant to any friends and will not return there again it was recommended on internet proves you can trust people comments always these people obviously have never been to a thai before.
Doi Intanon Thai Restaurant – AmblesideLooked on this website and restaurant had quiet good review had lamb madras very tough and when recommended it to waiter he just laughed didn't seem concerned at all and tried to rush us out, wont be going back their or recommend restaurant very disappointing as we have Indian loads of places and love the food but not there.
Spice of Bengal – Amblesidesuperb meal, generous portions and lovely staff. Toilets were immaculate
China Boat The – WindermereThis is the worst Italian restaurant i've ever eaten in. If you like microwave tv dinners this may be the place for you, but otherwise stay away!
Casa Bella – KeswickBeautiful dining room and wonderful service with top quality food. The views are fantastic and the whole meal was a very special experience.
Merewood Country House Hotel – WindermereFantastic food in a wonderful setting. You have to book ahead to get in as it is very popular and always busy. The sticky toffee pudding was gorgeous!
