superb all round, great food, great prices. Extremely friendly staff. Couldn't fault it. Great Thai beer too.

superb all round, great food, great prices. Extremely friendly staff. Couldn't fault it. Great Thai beer too.
Doi Intanon Thai Restaurant – AmblesideThe greek salad was very tiny, miniscule chopped cucumber, tom, onion. The feta cheese had no flavour. The vegetables used for the dips were so thinly cut, you'd never know it was celery and carrot. The tzatziki was bland, no flavour. Best thing was the wine. You can taste whichever you like. Which was very good. prices were quite expensive too, for the quality. My partner had the steak, it was like something from a greasy cafe. Even our clothes stank of grease the next morning.
Lucy4 Wine Bar and Bistro – AmblesideOn a crisp cold winters day (I have only been in winter), you could do no better than to stop at the Jumble Room for a bowl of warming soup or delicious risotto; the puddings are good too! The atmosphere is quirky, relaxed and friendly, and you will even find a few annuals from your youth to keep you entertained. I found it by accident three years ago, and returned by design for the first time a few weeks ago. It has only got better, and is now a must visit whenever I am back in the lakes.
Jumble Room – GrasmereGreat coffee shop hidden away but well worth searching out .very relaxed with nice atmosphere, great coffee and they do half price refills to!
Last Resort Coffee Shop – Barrow-in-FurnessWe couldn't be bothered to cook after a long day at the office and called in at Pizza Hut. What a mistake! The food is obviously made from pre-prepared 'stuff', it is horrendously over salted, pizza's have very little toppings ono them and the cheese tastes like plastic. To top it all the place is neither very clean nor very cheap! Avoid - Paulo Giannis is a far better bet for the same sort of money.
Pizza Hut – Barrow-in-FurnessExcellent value, particularly during 'Happy Hour'. Delicious food and very good service. Excellent vegetarian menu
China Cottage – AmblesideI was really disappointed at what had been a highly recommended restaurant in the Barrow area. The food was mostly fine, nothing special though and unfortunately the chips were not cooked thoroughly. I would have complained to the staff except for the fact they made themselves incredibly scarce and only showed up ten minutes after we had finished. We were left to sit for fifteen minutes with the menu before we could order with no drinks despite the place being practically empty. You can see that this palce has potential and I am sure it is fine when it is on form, but for me I'd rather visit the Stagger Inn or the Copper Dog if I want to go to a cute country pub in the area.
Brown Cow – Barrow-in-FurnessA gem - a 'proper' Mexican place rather than one of the somewhat naff chains that have sprung up in many major towns. The food is very flavoursome and the menu is well through through. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and fairly intimate and you can tell the owners are passionate about the food and the place. A bit of a pig to find for an outsider, but worth it when you are there. Plus the bar downstairs is a great place to try some more unusual beers and spirits in very comfortable surroundings.
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonAfter booking a table for my partners birthday only to be told on arrival we hadn't by obnoxious staff, it was going to be a disaster! It was the worst meal ever! The lasagne was cold and swimming in grease. My partner had chilli chicken pasta and if you could find a piece of chicken and a taste of chilli amongst the water the pasta was sitting in, you would have been lucky! Keep away Keep away
Casa Bella – KeswickAlways worth every penny. Quality food in a quality establishment.
La Luna – KendalLove the hotel. Love the Lamplighter Bar. Love the people. Packed with locals every time we go and you will understand why.
Lamplighter Dining Rooms – WindermereA family run hotel, in a perfect position for a weekend away. We were recommended to eat in the lamplighter bar in the hotel by the lady. The menu was huge, been a lover of seafood i was in heaven. i had half a dozen oysters followed by grilled Dover sole and my wife had to try the local potted shrimps followed by drunken bullock. We went back the next night to try mussels. It was truly outstanding. Complimented by a huge bedroom with a four poster bed. We will be back to try the fish and chips.........
Lamplighter Dining Rooms – WindermerePub Grub, very basic menu, meat was poor lamb henry very fatty and meat tough, steak chassuer - no way was it a 10oz steak, very thin and tasted of nothing. Chassuer sauce could have bee tiined tomatoes. A definite no no
Ship Inn At Roose – Barrow-in-FurnessHaving eaten at the bridge for the third year running i feel yet to be impressed AGAIN! Having read a good review pleasantly displayed proudly by the bar all i can say is what a lie. But where to begin, PIE=Dry on the off chance that i may have been offered some gravy i asked. 3pounds .50, what a joke for what i can only describe as a reasonable recreation of my housemates bistro on sausage and mash night. All i can say is don't bother wasting your time and money as well as theirs.
Bridge Hotel – CockermouthThis hotel/restaurant has really friendly staff and a great homely feeling. The two owners are very talkative and you get a great buzz off all the staff and the whole place feels more personal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anybody looking for a tranquil afternoon tea in the gardens or stay longer for the superb 3 course dinner. 5* in my opinion!
Rothay Manor – AmblesideDifficult to fault this one! Gorgeous old Victorian country home, beautifully restored. Furnishings per period, but lovely and comfortable. Very quiet, restful, great walks nearby. Some super pubs (Try Fat Lamb) for dinners. Breakfast v. good. The owner is a gem. Priced very reasonably. I paid 60 per night for two of us incl breakfast. Definite return venue.
Brownber Hall Country House – Kirkby StephenThis little tea room is quaint, old, and very welcoming. The food is home made, the service is relaxed, the furniture old and the atmosphere warm, especially after a wet rainy day in the lakes. There's a big collection of teas, the rarebit is delicious as are the cakes and it's been there for years!
Baldreys – GrasmereNice place shame about the owners attitude. We sent a fizzy bottle of wine back and the chef /Owner came out very aggressively and said there was nothing wrong with it, he did eventually begrudgingly replaced it but this I am afraid was rude and not nice. however I have been previously and the food was ok. If the owner does read this hopefully he may consider a customer service course before he goes out of business because people of this nice town will not tolerate this.
