Lamb Shank - wonderful - even welcomed the dog in the bar area that is stone flagged. After a dip this place is back as one to visit as the welcome & grub - SUPERB - washed down with a Cumberland pint. Visit 23 Feb 2009.

George Hotel – KeswickWent to this restaurant on Valentines day. Its pretty much right at the end of main street. It has a relaxed bistro feel about the place. It was very busy as you would expect, but the service was very attentive without being over attentive. The meal was excellent & it was a very enjoyable evening. I would certainly go there again.
Tarantella Restaurant – CockermouthCalled in late on a Wednesday night, the hotel only serves food until 8:30pm & we arrived about 8:20pm. Premier league football was on TV & the place was very busy but We still managed to find somewhere to sit out of the way of the main part of the pub. The menu was typical pub grub. I ordered Lasagna & my partner ordered Scampi & I don't think either of us expected the quality of food that we got. The lasagne was the best that I have had for a long time & my partner seemed very impressed with the quantity & quality of the scampi. The staff were friendly & the service was quick. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a good quality quick bite to eat in the evening
Globe Hotel – Cockermouthreally good food and service- cant find anything to grumble about!
Dalesman Country Inn – SedberghWe ate at Jacksons last night (19th Feb 2009). We thought the food was very average and overpriced. My husband had the crab cake for starter which was very bland. For mains courses we had steak and seabass which were acceptable but nothing special. The service was poor, when asked if we wanted to see the desert menu, no mention was made to dishes which were not available so after taking ages to decide on a dessert we were then told "Oh we haven't got that" - surely this should be something that should be mentioned at the time of presenting the menu. For £70.00 for a couple, we expected a little better food and service.
Jacksons Bistro – WindermereWhat a find! Ambleside has a host of eateries, but this one outshines them all; friendly knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices and above all, great food cooked by someone who cares about flavours. Go for the early evening option, before 7; 3 courses for £14.95. The place was busy, but we were served promptly and even had time to go to the cinema opposite for the 8.30 showing.
Matthews Bistro – Amblesidevalentines night was an absolute delight it was a surprise from my husband, we have never been before, we will certainly go back. excellent value for money.
Holme Bistro – CarlisleWe went for valentines night on the recommendation from this site! We had not booked as only in area visiting. Fully justified. The staff were very friendly, food was lovely. The garlic bread and scallops both fantastic and the pasta dishes also very very nice and more than enough to fill. Good value for money and will go back again if ever back in barrow!
Salvanas – Barrow-in-Furnessjust come across the web site for Damson Dene.( Have written a letter though) We had our annual Christmas party there and have nothing but praise for them. We had a party of 26, all who also booked rooms for the evening. Everything was spot on. Value for money, cleanliness, food, and the service and friendliness of the staff was second to none! We have no hesitation in recommending them and will definitely be returning.
Damson Dene Hotel – KendalExcellent restaurant, good food, good ambiance, very friendly staff. I have already recommended to my family. Make sure you book!
Villa Positano – WindermereHaving eaten her in 2008 feel should say that this is a great friendly place - we ate here twice as some others have gone a little downhill. Our little girl was well catered for and the Lamb wonderful - We will be back at Easter 09 for more of the same please.
Siennas Bar and Steakhouse Grill – KeswickHad a meal here on Saturday and it was beautiful. The new Chef's menu choices would please most people. I had the steak strips in a garlic and chilli sauce and they were gorgeous. The Banofee and toffee meringue was to die for. A hidden gem in Dalton
Chequers Hotel – Barrow-in-FurnessStunning food and service, homely but authentic surroundings, and a great takeaway service to boot, spot on !
Akash Tandoori – WhitehavenWe recently visited Francine's (15th January 2009), we were welcomed by a lovely waitress who served us throughout the evening. We stared the meal with some tasty h'dourves. Three delicious courses - we both really enjoyed the game! We would recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants good quality, delicious food then book here. Warm and friendly 4 star food without the pretentiousness of fine dining. Excellent. We WILL be coming back in the summer.
Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – Windermerevery nice food, good service all the family really enjoyed eating in the hotel
Abbey House Hotel – Barrow-in-FurnessWe were really disappointed with our meal at the Queens Head. We had booked the table a few weeks in advance and got a table near the toilets/kitchen. My meal was nice but my partner ordered a £25 steak. This steak arrived absolutely tiny. When we complained the manager wasn't very apologetic and offered no compensation. even though he acknowledged that other people had complained. My partner left hungry as we were too annoyed to have dessert. I wouldn't recommend this place
Queens Head Hotel – WindermereAll meals at Brantwood are fabulous - well worth a visit. We have been visiting for at least 20 years. In fact we visited today and my husband had a Cumberland Grill and I had Chicken Sweet and Sour with Rice - delicious.
