One of the best restaurants in the Lakes.

Cedar Manor – Windermere

I like this place overall. However the down sides are that it lacks soul and the rooms are overpriced for what they are. It's situated near Penrith and the refurbishment of the pub was a big one. It has the modern/rustic feel that the new generation of pubcos have. Unique in the area but becoming formulaic now. The menu is small and tight with most bases covered and we enjoyed our food. The service was professional and friendly too. We didnt like the rooms particularly. They were small and soulless. The top room was £145 and represented the worst value of our 4 day trip around the lakes. The George and Dragon is owned by the Lowther family and you would have thought that would get you free entry into the castke nearby, rather than the £5 entry fee. The whole vibe was very much a business rather than a homely labour of love. In short I would eat there however there are many better places to stay nearby and in much better locations.

Visited Brambles on Tuesday, what a wonderful place. We had our dog with us but were made very welcome to go inside. Lovely selection of teas, coffees, cakes etc. all home made. Amanda you deserve all the success, welcoming, friendly, comfortable. Well done, hope to visit again soon.

If you want a tasty topping on what appears to be a base cut out of 1/4in plywood then this is the place for you. One of the worst pizzas I've ever had. Other diners seemed to be having trouble cutting bite sized pieces off theirs. You should be able to take a sector, fold it and eat it without cutlery (as in Italy).

Woodstone Pizza & Flame Grill – Keswick

Stumbled upon this amazing little enclave. We enjoyed posh sarnies and cake at the tea shop. A walk and swim in the river. A historical tour of the old priory. And we would have stayed in the B and B if we hadn't already found one.

My last visit to Ali Taj, literally, was some 5 weeks ago The restaurant is looking very tired and in much need of both a good clean and decoration. The service has deteriorated so much since my previous visits it was quite remarkable. The waiter literally dropped the cutlery and 2 minuscule paper napkins on the table for us to lay ourselves. There was a great sense of "eat up and get out" as if we were being hurried to release the table for the next customer. A very disappointing experience indeed, I will not be going back.

Stopped there by chance on a Saturday evening, all tables booked but two so we got there in time (before 7pm). The food was fantastic, I was delighted to see the Specials Board menu was full of game dishes (pheasant, game pie, venison steaks, etc). The staff were very pleasant and cheerful. Will definitely try and come back there when we are in the lakes again! I noticed they also had a good choice of vegetarian dishes.

Went in last night, place was very busy and the food was absolutely amazing!!! Highly recommend to anyone. Equally, the staff and atmosphere were second to none... Just what kendal has been needing keep up the good work!!!!

Istanbull Bar & Grill – Kendal

Fantails oozes real olde worlde charm. An ancient building packed with interesting artefacts and nooks and cranies. The food was first class as you would expect from a place that has been going 18 years in the same hands. Hearty British food in a very welcoming environment. A must if in Carlisle area.

Fantails Restaurant – Carlisle
Scone

Great coffee and scones here in the middle of a castle!

Fusion Cafe – Penrith

Superior Deli restaurant. Nipped in for a bite for lunch and was surprised at the quality. I don't come across gourmet Greek restaurants on my travels in this country. They all seem a bit of a novelty, playing on the Brits just back from their hols mentality. Alexandros is a serious venue that seems to take great care in what it produces and serves. Friendly helpful lady served too.

Absolutely fabulous. I have been here many times with friends, and haven't been disappointed yet. Service and food is excellent

Bamboo Chinese and Thai Restaurant – Cockermouth
Dissapointed!

Was disappointed in my meal at Oily's. Although the chips appeared to be home made, they were soggy, 'bitty' and it looked like the fat needed changed. That comment was also made by another diner. Pie was rather dry, and my daughter was given cabbage with her scampi!!! I told my son where his sister and i had eaten to be told him and some friends had had a poor meal there also. I'm pleased there's good reviews for this a local business but sorry Oily's, the food wasn't that great.

Oily’s – Workington
Thaikwai

very nice breakfast ,enjoyed the peaceful setting outside, no traffic after being in the city.

Aunty Vals Tea Rooms – Windermere

What can I say about Beswicks, Simply one of best places to dine its more than just the meals that are available and the quality its the all round experience which is second to none form when you enter to when you come to leave, which is why i for one go back year after year.

Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-Furness

Had an evening meal 9th September. The staff were very pleasant as were the surroundings. I ordered Scampi and chips, my partner ordered chicken and ham pie. My Scampi was served with carrots, cabbage, salad and a portion of soggy chips.(Is that normally served with Scampi) It was not very nice. My partners pie was average ,served with the same veg and soggy chips. Not really impressed.
