Bowling Green Inn – Wigansimply brilliant, great food without fuss, laid back atmosphere, excellent value, friendly staff and understated, you won't be disappointed!
La Torre – UrmstonI would just like to say how refreshing it was to dine at the windmill, the service was very good and the food was quite exceptional with great value for money. This place is an absolute must on any bodies itinery Gazza
Windmill – AudenshawOur party arrived and we were greeted by the manager (i think) who was very charming and witty which we appreciated because she seemed under pressure from an overbearing owner (at least we hope it was otherwise she should have shown him the door). Despite this she took it in her stride. Waited 20 minutes for a drink, they were busy but I could have made them for us and the bar staff in half the time. The food was good / ok not the best, we've been before and the quality was better, maybe just an "off night" from the chef. Overall 8/5 the service from the lovely waitress compensated for mediocre food, a rude obnoxious owner / customer and what would otherwise have been a non-starter. Our experience: the food in Beggars Bush (across the road) is far superior and the cocktails made in half the time. I'd give it another go.
Lead Station – Chorltonwe go to the wiggin tree twice a week, the food is brilliant, but the service is terrible, the staff are always stood around the bar talking instead of looking after customers, they seem to have a table near the bar were they all congregate. we put up with the bad service because the food is good but other people will not. There never seems to be a manager around. We have been going for 6months and have never seen a manager, there is always young staff on who don't care about the customer, there is only 1 member of staff who is good and that is the older lady with the glasses(she is very attentive) & looks after customers well, perhaps she should train the young ones in how to deal with customers as the management don't seem to be bothered.
Wiggin Tree – WiganThis place had potential but the service from senior staff is awful. We had numerous problems with an older male member of staff and finally wrote to the owner to complain after he shouted at us about something another table had done. The owner never even responded to the complaint. I loved the place initially but found the standards have dropped significantly. Have no intention of visiting again and I know many others who agree
METRO Fish Bar – Buryate here last night all of the food was very nice i had the garlic bread for starter and the fillet steak for main and they were both very nice i highly recommend it to people
The Orange Tree Tapas – AudenshawParty of 5 adults and 1 infant This restaurant came highly recommended so we decided to have a Sunday lunch there (3/01/10). We arrived 13.00 with the car park more than half full. A good sign as the weather was still sub zero and had been for more than a week. There had been little attempt to clear the compact ice over the majority of the car park making it very slippery under foot. How the elderly or children would managed to gain access to the restaurant without falling was a miracle. There were two menus available with a good selection of meals catering for most people. We opted for the restaurant menu but the bar meals were very tempting. We chose the starters, breaded mushrooms and selected the traditional roast beef dinner and the braised beef for the main course. The meal served was a disappointment. The roast beef was tender and cooked to perfection but the portion size was small. The braised beef was a little more generous. The veg, carrots and cabbage were in a serving dish (cold). The roast potatoes were tasty and hot. I might be wrong but the small Yorkshire pudding was just like Aunt Bessie's (???). We ordered sweets from a selection of 6. They were satisfying The cost of 5 starters/ main course and 4 sweets was £48. Very reasonable but I'd rather pay more and enjoy my meal. 5/10 (1 point deducted for the lack of consideration clearing the ice from the car park)
The Owls At Standish – WiganAwful service - terribly sulky waiter who didn't want us there even though it wasn't busy. Shame as food was nice - although cold as waiter couldn't be bothered bringing it to us. Manager not must use either as ignored our complaints. Never going there again. Avoid this restaurant - isn't worth the bother.
Khan Baba – Manchester City CentreUnfortunately myself and 4 female friends went along, on the back of strong recommendations. We were highly disappointed. It was mid week and we had gone along for the early bird menu, only to discover this didn't exist. All courses fell short of ordinary and excited about a stew in ale 2of us were presented with indigestible lumps of gristle and my 3rd friend had a bowl of no gristle let alone meat, and nowhere was there even a sniff of ale. In fact I do believe the chef had misunderstood lentils for ale?? Perhaps he had a hangover??? I could go on, however when we did say we were not satisfied, we were just met with an apology. Feeling aggrieved , one of our party felt it only fair to raise our disappointment with the owners. Unfortunately this appeared to fall on deaf ears. Not one to complain unnecessarily I find it only right to raise our dissatisfaction for other future clients to get a full story. For one we will not be returning.
Isinglass – UrmstonJackies Chippy is the best in Manchester, the food is great and the price is just right. You only need to order 1 lot of chips and it will feed an average family of 4 and its under £1 you can't beat that anywhere else.
Jackies Chippy – HarpurheyI love chaophraya! the atmosphere, the people and the food is amazing!! So many flavours, the taste buds explode!! I love the authenticity too, the Thai cushions in the bar are a great touch
Chaophraya – Manchester City CentreDo not eat here!!! health hazard and they've just been fined £70,000 for poor hygeine!!! http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1186484_disgraceful_chinese_restaurant_fined_70000
Tai Pan Restaurant – RusholmeAbsolutely brilliant!!! As an Indian I'm really fussy about "Indian" restaurants, but this place is one of my all time favourites. Food is authentic Nepalese, great tasting and great value. The staff are really friendly, service quick and always with a smile. I travel 30 miles to get here because I think it's worth it.
Jai Kathmandu – NorthendenWe ate there over Xmas with good friends of ours and we had a great night. Top location, really nice decor, good service and great food..
Bellavista – RochdaleReview of Akbar's restaurant, Manchester. I visited at the end of December 2009. Although the service was good, and the starters were fairly decent, the main meal was a complete let down. I ordered chicken dish. They used a mixed bag of chicken meat. The menu clearly described the dish as being made from chicken breast meat. That was clearly not the case. They had used other parts of the chicken e.g. leg etc. Also the Naan was a bit stale. Overall, just a bit too much on the greasy side.
Akbars – Manchester City CentreOn the 25th of December 09 me and my friend went to lotus. I was amazed they served banna leaves meals. I had lovely tasty banna leaf meal. We had alot of varieties, different types authentic malaysian and south indians dishes. The meal was served in a banana leaf with varities of vegetables, poppadom. My selection of dish was prawn cooked in red malaysian sauce with crab curry
Lotus Restaurant – NorthendenOur first visit to this Malaysian and south Indian cuisine. The choice was excellent both as far as the Malaysian and South Indian food was concerned. The starter satay, honey chiken wings, chicken 65 and the fish fry was superb. the main course nasi pataya, nasi goreng kampong and the fish briyani was something not to be missed. An elderly man at the restaurant took so much of effort explaining the menu to us as first timer and we immediately knew what to order. The service and the taste of the food, I would say is first class. I would personally recommend this restaurant to any one.
