We came here for a Sunday roast on our way back from a lovely weekend at the lakes. Having been here before we were delighted when they fitted us in last minute. However we felt the food wasn't quite as good as our previous visit in march. We had a roast beef Sunday roast and felt the roast potatoes were hard and the beef was very chewy. The service and general atmosphere was very good.

We booked this as birthday meal and it was delicious! My steak was cooked perfectly, chips were fluffy and hot , peppercorn sauce was super as was a side of tender stem broccoli. The service was excellent throughout. My partner had the lamb and wanted to change the accompaniments. This was done with no problem. We had a chocolate fondant and a creme brulee for dessert. Both were flawless. A really lovely evening, we would highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience at The Horse and Farrier. The atmosphere was cosy, staff were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the food was absolutely delicious. Not our first visit to this pub and certainly will not be the last. Looking forward to our next visit and the ‘specials’ board.

We booked for Saturday evening, greeted pleasantly on arrival. We both enjoyed starters and the featherblade of beef for main course. Tasty, hot and came in good time! Decent value, enjoyed it, we will be back! Well done.

The staff were excellent and we felt welcomed from the moment we entered the premises. The food was good quality but not quite as good as we had hoped from listening to other’s recommendations. However the food was better than most if not all pubs in Keswick so we will certainly be giving it another go in the near future.

We were visiting the area from Kent and after attempting to eat at two other local venues who unfortunately had their kitchens closed, we found the Horse and Farrier, and we were grateful the other 2 were closed! The staff were friendly and indulged in my chit chat, the food was served in a satisfactory time, not super quick but equally we wasn’t left waiting. The food itself was lovely.. in fact I inhaled most of mine! Bravo all!

We found this restaurant on an overnight stop in Penrith. It has a friendly relaxed atmosphere, the food is excellent and good value for money. We will definitely visit again when next in Penrith and are happy to highly recommend this restaurant.

A real hidden gem! I eat at the Horse and Farrier regularly and it never disappoints. The food is consistently excellent, the service is first class, and there’s always such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s one of those places you’re always happy to return to because you know you’ll be well looked after and have a great meal. Fantastic food, lovely service and consistently high standards all round. Definitely deserving of 5/5 and highly recommended!

Friendly efficient service and well-cooked, tasty food at a a beautiful, bustling historic pub in the village of Dacre.

Lovely and efficient staff . Nice welcome , seated at a table with great views over the valley. The menu is good and there are always attractive specials available. The guest beers are always worth trying and the wines are very good. We were a party of 3 . We all thoroughly enjoyed our food which was well cooked , flavoursome , plentiful and well presented . Overall a great experience

Visited with friends for Sunday lunch, lovely meal in a beautiful old inn in Dacre. The staff were attentive. The roast was excellent, the beef the best I’d had in a while, melted in the mouth! The vegetables, also cooked exactly how I like them and plenty of them. My husband commented on that roast and mashed potatoes which he really enjoys in a roast! Thank you to the chef and kitchen staff, kitchen crew you must really work hard to achieve such excellent standards. The drinks we had were good as well and my white wine was served very chilled, just as I like it! Price point was very competitive with the quality of the ingredients and service. We would recommend wholeheartedly and will visit again whilst in The Lake District.

What a lovely Sunday dinner experience, the service was exceptional, attentive without being too attentive; and the food so so delicious I wished I had more space to try a dessert. The roast beef was melt in the mouth. All veg were so tasty. We’ll be back again soon.

We are visiting Lake District from the US and had dinner at Grants of Castlegate as a group of six. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious, and everyone in our party was very happy with their dishes. The service was warm, attentive and professional throughout, making us feel genuinely welcome. A lovely atmosphere and an excellent dining experience—we would happily return and highly recommend it.
