Wonderful food at this artisan cafe restaurant. We had a chicken Tagine and a rosti with freshly squeezed orange juice. The venue has real charm and the service was good. A must for lunch if in Ambleside.

Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideWe have visited the "Ratty Arms"for the last 5 years when visiting this area. The food has always been first class, plentiful and reasonably priced. The drinks are reasonable and there is plenty of choice even on the childrens menu.Definitely one not to miss whilst in the Lake District. The pub also has a pleasant atmosphere and the locals are a good bunch.
Ratty Arms – HolmrookFantastic stripped down raw pub the ODG. This place has real character. It used to be a cattle shed and still retains those features. Its full of hikers and rock climbers so the food is hearty as well as being tasty. Great selection of beers too. Its very popular due to this and its awesome location in the Langdale valley. It is also a hotel and has a more refined restaurant if thats more your thing. A must if in Langdale and better than its newer namesake.
Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel – AmblesideWe have dined here for the last 6 years. The food is excellent, reasonably priced and superb service ensures the food is still red hot when it gets to you.Judging by the outside of the property you would not believe what an excellent meal you can have.Just go in ,dine and you will find out what we mean.
Golden Hills – KeswickI really enjoyed my meal at the black swan, I would recommend anyone to go!
Black Swan Inn – PenrithI particularly enjoyed that fact that I was aware of the use of local produce in each dish served to us. The fact that it is homemade also speaks for itself the fresh taste in the dishes jumped out at me - something that is very rare in the eateries in the area, usually you are left with frozen chips & a pathetic slither of meat that people have the cheek to call a steak, but I must say it is the best steak I have eaten - fantastic, thick juicy sirloin. There was even a list of farms on the blackboard so you knew where the beef came from. Personally I think they have the food just right here, a great mixture to suit most tastes. Service was very good & efficient but perhaps the some of the staff could be a little more friendly! The lady in charge of front of house could not of been more helpful, the perfect host.
Black Swan Inn – PenrithGreat food but no atmosphere and the staff were miserable. Probably wouldn't go back, which is a shame as great food
Oily’s – WorkingtonI recently went to Oily's to celebrate my birthday with a small group of friends. I am a lover of their food myself, as I go there at least once a month. Although only one of my friends had only been once, they vowed they would eat there again as they loved the food and the service was excellent. I can also say Oily's is a family friendly restaurant with a menu that is very good value for money.
Oily’s – WorkingtonDon't waste your money! Rude, impolite waitress ruined our meal and our last night. We didn't even have chance to read the menu before it was snatched off us. The food was slammed down on the table and was nothing more than average, the restaurant was too hot with too many people crammed in. We didn't leave a tip, we couldn't get out of there fast enough! We won't be returning or recommending to friends! Could this be because we dress differently? Talk about narrow minded!!!
Casa Bella – KeswickSix of us went for dinner last week. All of us ordered different meals. All were fabulous. The food was presented well and tasted great. The staff was friendly, patient and efficient. There was one area of concern - when we got the bill we thought it should have been more!! Highly recommended
Oily’s – WorkingtonGreat pub. Food good. At those prices. Very Very good. It short. I cook myself and we have all been to places where, we have paid and thought i could do better myself. Rump steak £5 Gammon £5 etc Enjoy
Beehive The – CarlisleA lovely find, tucked away slightly off the main street, but well signed. There's a wide range of freshly cooked food through the day, and a wonderful selection of cakes. The prices are very reasonable ... 'mortgages are for homes not cakes', they told me. AND there is a gluten-free menu that's nearly a long as the regular one ... most of their cakes, some pastries, pizzas etc all gluten free, and at regular, non inflated prices
Taste Of Eden – ApplebyMy wife and I have eaten here on a number of occasions and never been disappointed. It has varied and reasonably priced menu and the food is always excellent. Efficient and friendly service combined with a unique location make this a very enjoyable experience
Kingfisher Restaurant – MilnthorpeSTAY AWAY FROM THIS B&B!!! BE ADVISED!!! Had reservations for this establishment and was shocked by the level of filth and service. Entered after doing the C2C walk and was immediately overcome by the total filth from floor to ceiling, horrible smell similar to sewage, and total unkempt appearance. Met another couple on the walk that had stayed there and mentioned bed bugs in the rooms. Employees were incredibly rude and hostile and pub filled with hooligans. I have seen cleaner surroundings in sheep pens. Immediately cancelled reservations and stayed at the Black Bull which was spotless and excellent service. BE ADVISED
Croglin Castle Hotel – Kirkby StephenI'm sorry to have to write this but my wife and I had a meal at the Anglers Arms Haverthwaite on Friday 21st August and it was absolutely disgusting. The starter was a minuscule portion and very bland. The main course is probably the most bland stodgy and nondescript meal I have eaten since my school dinner days. To add insult, the manager offered us a ten percent discount off our meal.A dreadful experience we will never go back again
Anglers Arms – UlverstonIf you only eat at one place when you are in ambleside it must be Lucy's..We go up to Ambleside twice a year and Lucy's is always a definate for us. From reading the menu to paying its always been an enjoyable experience.. The menu is a excellent choice of food..Starters are a plenty ...Main Courses make your mouth water and the puddings (if you can manage one) are wonderful If you get the pleasure of meeting Lucy it's a pleasure..She is lovely and has always made us feel really welcome
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideWhat a dreadful place. Our table was never cleared, and when mentioned to the barman who asked if anything was OK he reacted like Basil Faulty and claimed it was my fault and walked away!! I will not be going there again and would advised others not to bother unless they like sloopy service and rude staff.
Ratty Arms – HolmrookI have been twice for a meal while on holiday in the last 2 months. Both times we waited at least 20minutes for someone to take our order and in the end had to ask.On 14th August 7 of us went for lunch. It can only be described as average or below and when we asked for a sweet menu at 2.15pm we were told they closed at 3pm so we didn't bother. Can't recommend it and will not go again.
