We came to stay for a couple of nights and ended up staying for two weeks, fantastic, relaxing with very friendly service. A home from home. Highly recommended.

Heather Glen Country Hotel – CarlisleFantastic all day breakfast. Good quality bacon & sausage. Owners & staff very friendly. Live in Halifax and never miss a visit when we are here.
Butterfingers – Grange-over-SandsWe visited the Jintana for our birthdays on Saturday. We had already booked a table beforehand however on our arrival we were abruptly greeted and shown to our table after about 5 minutes later. We had to ask to order our drinks before waiting another 10 minutes before we were asked if we were ready to order froma waitress who clearly didn't want to be there! We ordered the £6 per person combination starter expecting it to be mixture of authentic thai food. What arrived was a mixture of 4 different deep fried starters one of which was burnt!. After asking the same miserable waitress to change it it came back 10 minutes later with the offending burnt prawn toast having been replaced but the rest if the starter was stone cold, they hadn't bothered to change the whole dish. Next came the the main course or should I rephrase this "thrown at us" of chewy unseasoned Pad Thai noodles with 4 rubbery prawns. The green thai curry was better but I have seen bigger sugar bowls. we weren't asked whether the food was satisfactory or whether we needed additional drinks. Allin all it was a very poor £37.00 worth of non authentic food. We eat out alot and work and live in Manchester city centre so we know what constitutes good thai food. If you want a nice meal out in Bowness I would highly recommed Sol Bar & Tapas, the food, service and ambience was second to none!
Jintana Thai – WindermereMy partner & i came for my birthday as it is my favourite place & i am never disappointed. would like to ad tho this time we were sat by what i think is a disused door in the front of the restaurant, there was a terrible draught coming through it. I sat there very cold, a curtain over it would definitely do the trick
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonBrilliant place, great food. Would certainly recommend Diggles to my friends.
Diggles – Barrow-in-FurnessVery good Hotel lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and brilliant food
Trout Hotel – CockermouthA very warm and friendly atmosphere. Cosy real fires in the bar as well as the dining room. Worth many more future visits.
Strickland Arms The – PenrithAvoid at all costs. Payed £50 for a grotty room with paper thin walls. Went down for breakfast in the morning to be told there was none because the manager had gone home. No apology. Staff rude. Strange smell to the place.
Bridge Hotel – KendalA lovely warm welcome awaited us as we booked into the Golden Fleece Inn. This is a family run pub and it shows in their commitment to providing customer service. No ask was too much. We were greeted with a pot of tea and fruit scones! The food in the bar was very good and reasonably priced and the staff were pleasant and helpful. We had a lovely three days staying at this inn and we will be returning again soon.
when i visited this pub with my family we were greeted by the friendly licensees and their staff the food was amazing fantastic value for money we would definitely go back again the two ladies who have only been there since June have great sense of humour and made us all feel very welcome and if you love pub grub the devonshire arms definitely ticks all the boxes we wish them well
Devonshire Arms The – UlverstonVisited 14/11/07 after reading a write up in a Good Pub Guide and glad we did. The staff especially the lady behind the bar were extremely polite, friendly and smiled. The food was delicious.. we opted for the monkfish tails with rocket salad and lemon mayonnaise and smoked haddock with poached egg and grain mustard sauce followed by wild strawberry creme brulee (nearly as good as Nicks (Bolton). The prices were slightly more than what you would normally pay for a pub lunch but worth every penny. Its a good place to stop off at if you are travelling up or down the M6 - if only we lived closer! Would definitely recommend a visit.. cant believe we are the first to write a review
Yanwath Gate Inn – PenrithDougs Diner to me makes the best cooked breakfast around, well worth a visit if you are on the M6 and heading North or South.
Dougs Diner – PenrithFantastic food and hospitality to match
The Royal Oak – CartmelMe & my partner visited Francine's November 05, We came back to find it was closed in December 06 and were extremely upset! We had a fabulous meal there on our first visit. The place had a completely different atmosphere in the evening, we enjoyed several courses, all at which were well worth the cost. I am elated to say we have booked a table there for this saturday night for our annual trip to Windermere. The main purpose of our visit being our trip to this beautiful little restaurant!...oh, and my partners birthday!! A must for anyone staying or visiting the Lake District, day or night.
Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – WindermereSurprised by all the rave reviews. My boyfriend and I ate here a week ago. Very poor service. The food was good, steak in particular, but the fish average, and we had to wait ages in between each course and they brought us the wrong drinks (twice) and undercharged us for the meals - obviously good for us two, but not a sign of accuracy on their part! Staff very curt.
Postilion Restaurant – WindermereWe had a great meal here a month ago. Service was excellent, and the food lovely. The manager ensured each course was to our liking and was very polite. All the staff were polite and served the ladies first - correctly!
Jacksons Bistro – WindermereA traditionally-furnished pub that is genuinely interested in creating a terrific village hub. The staff and regulars were unfailingly pleasant and welcoming to the 10 of us (with the exception of the older barman who needs to tone down his act, he upset a friend of ours who felt unable to stay after an unpleasant comment). Matt - the owner and chef - is passionate about serving locally-sourced high quality ingredients and is deliberately simple in his treatment, bringing out the best in the fine foods he selects. We loved the place, and the warmth of the people was outstanding.
Bay Horse Inn – Kirkby StephenMy partner & I visited the restaurant recently and found it to be very acceptable. I realise the food is cooked to order, but as we were the only pair in initially, followed later by a second couple, I found the service particularly slow, and wonder how long we would have had to wait for food if there had been a large party in.
