The Viceroy – CarlisleDelicious food and a great little cafe for people who like to find 'a hidden gem' in a back street. This is one place that is definitely worth searching for. So much much better than many of the other cafes in Ulverston.
Sting in the Tail – UlverstonMany local people consider this pub to be the place to go for good grub but on my last couple of visits the food and service have not been up to scratch and the prices are on the high side for what you get. Large portions yes but quality?.....mmmh??
Brown Cow – Barrow-in-FurnessNice cafe, lovely decor and good menu. However staff can be a bit OTT. More American than English in service!
Cafe Treff – AmblesideOne of the best meals i've ever had. A great experience!
Log House Restaurant – AmblesideA proper traditional pub set within arguably the finest scenery in the world. A drinkers/diners heaven
Sticklebarn Tavern – AmblesideWent there last year on holiday, was very impressed, so much so drove from bowness in may holidays to try their food again, once again great fresh food served well, great service and choice. Well done all involved, loved your heroes pie, can I have the recipe?
Old Farm House The – UlverstonGem of a cafe in Bowness - very fresh, well cooked grilled (so no grease or oil at all) breakfast. We ate there every morning during our week's stay in Bowness - delicious food and spotlessly clean cafe.
Bowness Kitchen – WindermereI went here to console myself on my 40th (gulp) birthday on Tuesday, with two friends. We had a fantastic afternoon, complete with afternoon tea and dainty cakes, which we had to take home as the portions are so generous. As busy working mums we all decided to make this our guilty pleasure on a more regular basis. Thankyou Gillams, this is a little vegetarian oasis we could idle an afternoon away in - my daughter is also in love with the strawberry lemonade!
Gillams Tearoom – UlverstonExcellent food, great atmosphere and attentive staff....oh, and the decors good too! What more can you say?
The Ship – CockermouthMy husband and I first visited Lucy4 on its opening night in1999 whilst visiting Ambleside to celebrate our engagement. We revisited this weekend to celebrate 10 years of marriage and the whole ambience of the place is superb, just as we remembered. The food was fabulous with a fantastic variety on the menu. The staff are very attentive. We both particularly enjoy tapas and found the portions to be very generous. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
Lucy4 Wine Bar and Bistro – AmblesideI have eaten here several times and always enjoyed good food, beers and service. Very recommended
Ship Inn At Roose – Barrow-in-FurnessWe went to this restaurant may bank holiday weekend. Surroundings were very nice & the house red but unfortunately I couldn't say the same about the food. I had steak rossini , the actually steak was nice, but wasn't cooked as I requested. the sauce was awful sweet sherry sauce & really wasn't very nice. My fiance ordered halibut , was nicely cooked but no sauce with it .With the main courses we got a small bowl of roasted peppers & aubergines & a few under done roasted potato's. We were very disappointed with the meal as it was for a special birthday . Wouldn't recommend .this restaurant.
Villa Positano – WindermereWe went to this restaurant may bank holiday weekend. Surroundings were very nice & the house red unfortunately I couldn't say the same about the food. I had steak rossini , the actually steak was nice, but wasn't cooked was under cooked to how I

Low Sizergh Barn – Kendalgreat place to eat , it's a must for any couple or family , will be going back soon to stay
Angel Inn – WindermereAbsolutely amazing!! Highly recommend, I had the freshest, most delicious, high standard food here that I have ever eaten. Beautiful free canapes and bread were also brought to our table with most attentive staff. 4 of us dined at Francine's and none of us were disappointed. Restaurant and toilets were also very clean and inviting. Well done!! We will return and will be telling our friends.
Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – WindermereVery strange service here! I ordered my chicken jalfrezi with rice and a sparkling water. "what else would you like sir?" nothing i replied. "you need to order something else sir" he said 3 times! no i kept saying. he then said "minimum order £10". Firstly i have never heard of this ever when eating in a restaurant. Secondly the order value came to £14.45?? Food was OK.
