We thoroughly enjoyed Sunday lunch with two close friends of long standing, who had not been to The Two Hares before. It was a special occasion. We had starters (of asparagus with egg, and scallops with tempura prawns), and roast mains of Derbyshire beef, and pork belly, with all the trimmings. Cooking and service were excellent in every regard, and very good value for money.

Two Hares, Glossop My partner and I enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch at The Two Hares on 1 June. The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere has improved since the refurbishment. We opted for three starters: the prawn and scallop in a Thais green curry sauce, asparagus with fried egg, and Korean-style fried oysters. All were beautifully cooked, prepared, and presented to a high standard. The oysters, in particular, were sensational—rich in flavour and perfectly crisp. I would certain recommend to anyone who do not typically eat oysters but like shellfish. For the main course, we both chose the Derbyshire roast beef, served with seasonal greens, a giant carrot, plenty of roast potatoes, and oversized Yorkshire puddings, all topped with a rich jus. The beef was tender, the carrot surprisingly sweet, and the roast potatoes cooked just like mum used to make. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff remained enthusiastic, helpful, and attentive. Service was efficient, and our food arrived hot and without delay. We have supported this restaurant through its previous life as Hyssops, and we’ll happily continue to do so. Thanks to the whole team for a delightful meal!

We booked an afternoon tea for three people. With one requesting a vegetarian and another vegan meal. All three meals were very good but the vegan meal was exceptional. The choice of cake was great and the taste was exceptional. Great atmosphere and a throughly enjoyable afternoon.

Great food, great service and the live band had everyone up and dancing. Will definitely be returning!

Three booked for lunch. We were sat in the Rex Whistler Room as requested which we were pleased with as the other part of the cafe was very busy. Two of the meals were great. Unfortunately a chain saw would have been the only tool to get through the baked potato skin and the salad was covered in balsamic glaze which I don’t like. We were not asked about a salad dressing.

Stayed in a holiday cottage just down the road so was ideally situated for an evening meal. Made to feel very welcome. The food was very good and the desserts very nice. I was drinking the marstons pedigree which was excellent.

We were a party of 4 for the evening menu. Little did we know just what a treat were in for. Every meal and the sides were all excellent. The hispi cabbage billed as a humble side was an absolute knock out dish! If you haven't already supported this local business please do yourself a favour and book in soon, your taste buds will be grateful!

Went for Sunday lunch, last minute decision, not been there before. Roast lunch was very good. Friends tried the zebra & kangaroo & enjoyed both. Extensive drinks list. Great service, efficient & friendly. Nice ambience in the restaurant. Price point was good for what we had. We would go again.

Me and my partner came on Saturday evening and it was lovely from start to finish. We both tried something new the venison and the zebra and it was delicious. All the staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. The atmosphere with the live music was great. Will definitely be recommending and returning whenever we are in Buxton.

Staying in the village we visited the olde gate on three occasions, the food served was excellent, one of our group is vegetarian and she found the vegetarian options very good, staff and very friendly and helpful and this is an excellent old pub , all in all good value for money and would recommend a visit

Had a lovely evening, never been here before, a weekend in the peaks so decided to book having seen the pub/restaurant online. Fantastic food, great service and just a lovely all round vibe with the live band on too. Would definately visit again and highly recommend. Thank you

Had a great meal here - Sunday roast and steaks are a must. The tenderest chicken I’ve ever had along with lovely veg and all the trimmings. Wish we’d had room for dessert as they looked mouthwatering. Will definitely be back to try them.

Son lives in Buxton whilst my wife and I live in North Wales. We came here for my wife's 70th birthday and enjoyed the food so much that we came back to celebrate son's 50th birthday. We all had Sunday dinner. I had beef the others had lamb. All were equally delicious. All of us plumped for key lime pie and although I personally do not usually have a dessert, it was very nice. The other two however were drooling over how tasty it was. Food and service were Excellent. Although not the cheapest restaurant food, the quality meant that it was well worth every penny. Visted Renishaw Hall for afternoon tea. The service, food and the environment were fantastic. One of the nicest afternoon teas ive experienced, the food was excellent, this included 4 finger sandwiches per person, a sausage roll and an individual mini quiche, a beautiful large homemade scone with a tub of clotted cream and a jar of jam, a selection of small cakes and a garnish of Blueberries, strawberies and raspberries. It was delicious. The staff were so friendly and very attentive, nothing was too much trouble.
