a gem of a of pub/restaurant to find by chance superb quality food at reasonable prices with good friendly service

The Flintlock Inn – Honiton
Paul Burridge

Had an nice meal here together with 5 other adults. Everyone enjoyed the starters, main meal and dessert. It was quiet that evening, and the service was prompt and proper. The price was right. Nice pint of the local brew too. Otter beer. This is a cosy old pub with a bright and airy new extension. Something for everyone. I'll go again next time I'm in Devon.

The food here was good, but wouldn't go so far as to say the best in Plymouth. I had the fillet steak which was delicious but other people in my group were disappointed by their choices. They specialise in Greek food but there was no Greek sweet on the menu. It was very busy even though it was a Wednesday night. The decor is odd, the dining experience could be greatly improved if they could modernise it a little. The staff were very good and attentive. The cost of my steak was about £16.00 and bottle of red wine was £13.00, sweets were £4.50.

Fantastic food, lovely atmosphere and the waiting staff were were too bad the head chef had a bad attitude to his customers!

Blue Ball Inn – Exeter

Tandoori Nights – Paignton

Do not be put off by the outside, as inside you will be able to enjoy 'michelin star' food accompanied by some excellent wines, which are both at reasonable prices. That day we got soaked (Wed 9.7.08) going to an all day conference. The highlight was our first visit to Bistro One. When next visiting Plymouth, I'll be trying other dishes on the menu, even though the beef was as good as one could wish for, cooked to perfection.

Don't bother, no food, awful atmosphere, can't keep licensees, 6 new tenants in 4 years

6 of us went to The Leandra on a Sunday evening as a spur of the moment thing, it was difficult finding a restaurant open on Sunday evening! We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent with very attentive and friendly staff, the place had a good atmosphere and was busy. The food was very reasonably priced (I paid £9.99 for 3 courses) and tasty!

Very good pub with food to match, great to sit outside and watch the world go by. Nice decor, good beer and a mix of locals and tourists. Have visited six or so times and will be visiting frequently in the future.

Anchor Inn The – Sidmouth
Dave

Visited twice on a recent visit to Sidmouth, once for a drink and the experience was so pleasant we ate there the following evening. Very much a locals pub but you are immediately welcomed and included (if you wish) in the banter, good wholesome food and large portions, wish I lived nearby, it would be my local.

Swan Inn – Sidmouth
John And Betty

After a few tries at dining here we finally ate with friends last week. We all love good seafood and had the Bistro Seafood Meze which comprised Mussels Oysters, Scallops, marinated Octopus and Squid, Crevettes and Clams. Great value at £36 for two persons washed down with some great Spanish Blanco from Calatayud. We all stayed on to enjoy the puds and cheeses that included, Lemon Sylabub with Sherrry and ginger Biscotti and Lemon and Treacle Tart, lovely they were too. Will return in summer to have a go at Lobster! Can't wait. John and Betty

Bistro One – Plymouth
Marywb

This new restaurant has recently opened in Crownhill village, transformed from an off licence to a tastefully decorated contemporary restaurant. Extensive menu offering the old favourites plus a selection of chef specialities which are more authentic. Have been 3 times since it opened and not had a bad meal yet, staff are very nice and service is good.

Nibana Indian Restaurant – Plymouth
Ruby

Had a glorious meal and a great night's entertainment on Saturday. Mark Hix was in the kitchen with Mitch, such a great atmosphere and food to die for. This is definitely being included on my favourites list. Its a venue that feels comfortable, relaxed and inviting on the one hand but has a menu to rival the best food in the UK let alone Devon.

The Seahorse Restaurant – Dartmouth
Micka

We visited the Laughing Monk in Strete on July 2nd 2008, Lunch was absolutely mouth watering. The Scallops were cooked to perfection on a bed of salad with Chefs home made dressing, and avocado/ horseradish puree. The Bakewell Tart and cream dessert was most traditional, as the owners Ben And Jackie worked in the Cavendish Hotel near to Bakewell in Derbyshire. The Menu at The Laughing Monk specialises in seafood which is all sourced Locally, as are the Vegetables and Meat. We recommend a visit to this lovely Restaurant and enjoy the friendly atmosphere .

Laughing Monk Restaurant The – Dartmouth

Would not recommend, service is slow, management are rude. Over priced drinks leave you looking for another venue. Would rather eat takeaway than wait 50 minute for a simple meal.

The Berkeley Bar & Grill – Plymouth
Claire

The staff are very friendly indeed and made me feel very at home! The food was excellent and all in all I felt I was in my local pub, home from home (which is Oxfordshire). Barbabra and staff were always happy to help I would recommend this pub to anyone! Loved it!

Hele Billys – Ilfracombe
Kim

The carvery is great and good value for money - but only go there if you are prepared to sit next to a screaming child. This place is particularly popular with young families - and even if the child screams for a full 45 mins, don't expect the management to do anything about it (ie politely ask the parent to temporarily remove the distressed child from the area for the sake of other diners - it simply wont happen).

Exeter Arms Toby Hotel – Exeter
Fisty

Very poor and not a patch on what the shop must have been when award winning well over a decade ago and, as I understand it, under different management.

Squires Fish Restaurant – Braunton
