Bull and Bush The – TorquayThe gentleman behind the bar is making major efforts with this pub and his service was excellent. However, we were made to feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome by a female member of staff who we presumed was landlady/chef. I was sitting in the only comfortable seat close to the fire and she stood behind me glaring at me for a number of minutes giving me the distinct impression that as an 'outsider' I should not be in the pub's comfy seat and my husband was 'told off' for touching her brass. If a pub is going to create a welcoming lounge-like atmosphere, it needs to accept that pokers in front of the fire may be touched from time to time. This unfortunately destroyed the experience for us, we had been considering returning but we would not do this as we feel that, if we stayed at this pub, we would be treated as 'outsiders' which is a shame. If the lady can develop a different approach then this pub has massive potential. The barman, possibly the landlord, had an excellent welcoming approach but this was destroyed by the lady. We were going to stay longer but, having been made to feel very uncomfortable we left.
Cyder Presse – BidefordNice location, Newly refurbished, Staff very friendly, Would recommend to anyone wanting quick filling food before night out, Attached to premier inn so make a night of it, close to local entertainment.
Lockyers Quay – PlymouthI was recommended this place, so i took the family, BRILLIANT, what can i say the food was brilliant and so was the service, my youngsters were given colouring to do whilst waiting for their food, which they ate all of it . I can recommend the ribs and the fajitas, the smokey BBQ sauce was lovely, i thought the waitress looked like she loved working there, if i was younger! TRY IT YOURSELF
Route 38 – PlymouthThank heavens finally a little bit of civilisation has arrived in north devon. Being a city girl for most of my life, it was fantastic to find a place that has that cool unpretentious not trying to hard feel that most places in the sticks have. Went down for a long weekend and ate there pretty much every day (sometimes more than once a day). The staff were friendly and knew what they were talking about, and the food was amazing. It was simple and honest with out all those extra twiddles that everyone seems to want to add, and tasted just as you wanted it to. The wine list was fab, with an amazing house white that blew us both away. If you're in the area it's a must visit. Big thumbs up, as a girl though could do with another loo!
At One Dining Room and Deli – BrauntonWhat an EXCELLENT place, we had a brilliant time the staff were so friendly and the food was so authentic of the good ole U S A . VERY RECOMENDED Gary and family
Route 38 – PlymouthAnother very good meal at the Shapla. The food is so tasty and different from run of the mill curries and the staff are very friendly. Will recommend to friends.
Shapla Balti Cuisine – PlymouthGreat pub with a terrific atmosphere - mixed crowd - try the hot chocolate cocktails if you need to go outside for a smoke ! I wish all land-ladies were as cool as Jo ! Mmmm nice breakfast !
Hermitage Inn – KingsbridgeHad an exceptional meal last night at Ode in Shaldon. We really enjoyed ourselves. The whole meal was delicious and memorable. Really great service, delicious food and an enviable eco-conscious policy. Organic and seasonal, very high quality produce used without exception. The homemade onion seed flatbread with tapendade were a really nice change to the usual bread and butter/olive oil. The vacuum cooked duck and venison were tasty and succulent and the cheeseboard was a proper enormous cheeseboard packed with diverse and interesting flavours. A really nice place to treat yourself and friends.
ODE Restaurant – TeignmouthMy main course was frankly very poor. It wasn't even hot so I complained (first time ever). They replaced it with apologies and it was better but still not good. The rest of the meal was fine. To be fair they didn't charge us for my substandard main course and also threw in the wine as a freebie.
Bella Italia – ExeterThe food is great i went with 3 other people i will make sure i will be back
Mary Tavy Inn – TavistockA traditional lunch-time roast was served with speed and efficiency on very hot plates! A smaller portion was available. The puddings are superb and vary from roulades to Bread and Butter pud with custard. The delicious cakes and pastries ensure your diet fails. A very wide range of teas are on offer and the staff...simply delightful.
Brookside Restaurant – Newton AbbotTook my father in law here for a Sunday lunch treat. This pub has in the past had an excellent reputation. We were very disappointed. We were the first to order food, and were told that there were no chicken dishes as 'they had run out of chicken'!! The next people to order had chicken. The steak meals we ordered were reminders of 60's pub food. The steak was tough, and the whole dish lacked imagination. To add insult to injury, having finished our main course, the sweet took an hour to arrive, and the most preparation required was 5 minutes in the microwave! This lunch cost around £20/head - no wine included. The staff were very pleasant, the surroundings were dowdy and desperately in need of redecorating.
Leaping Salmon – YelvertonVery nice quaint old english pub, the food is excellent very large, quality portions, nice staff too. well worth a visit.
White Hart, The – CreditonReally good food and lovely staff. They were more than happy to alter dishes to meet my dietary requirements and as someone who has travelled to India several times, it is the closest ive ever had to the taste of genuine indian cuisine
Jaipur Palace Restaurant – Plymouthwe wnt to the Bearslake for a meal and had a wonderful evening, All the staff were very helpful, very nice and couldnt have been friendlier. As ex publicans ourselves we are probably more critical than most, but I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone.
Bearslake Inn – OkehamptonImaginative menu, attractively presented in a welcoming atmosphere. Could happily eat here every week so will be back. Sheila
Waterside Bistro – TotnesCould only afford to eat their once during the holiday, but on a wet weekend it was a warm inviting place to eat, with a good atmosphere. My lad especially liked the wi-fi connection.
