The Hour Glass Inn – ExeterAbsolute superb little find! Superb food and great vegetarian options! Staff are amazing and great service! Best vegetarian roast I’ve had!
The Hour Glass Inn – ExeterVery tasty meat. However, this is still a pub. Order at the bar... we both had steak and chips at a rather high price of £36... I can't complain about how it was cooked. The steak was a rib eye cut, perfectly juicy, and cooked MR. I didn't particularly like the very greasy load of potato wedges or frisee lettuce. You are charged service at the bar when ordering wich to me, slightly defeats the point. The atmosphere was good. Warm and cosy..pub. I think the prices need to better reflect the ingredients used and that it is a pub. 3.5/5. For 2 people 1 drink 1 main £100.
The Hour Glass Inn – ExeterWe love The Hour Glass! It's the sort of pub you just don't come across often these days. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food is excellent (the black pudding scotch egg is outstanding!) and the wine llst is good (and the beer isn't bad either!). All round a great evening. Thanks to all concerned.

The Hour Glass Inn – ExeterSunday lunch for 3 people celebrating my husbands birthday. It’s a mixed review sadly. Lovely venue - cosy and welcoming. The starters were really very good ( black pudding scotch egg with soft yolk, monkfish scampi and the smoked haddock chowder). We then had a really really long wait for our main course… the waitress did apologise and gave us one free pint. We all ordered the roast beef - the beef was rare and delicious, generous portion lovely mixed of veg (swede puree, cabbage and cauliflower cheese, one carrot etc) and a large yorky. But, the potatoes were pretty much inedible and impossible to cut. I suspect they had once been lovely crisp roasties but they were now like leather. My son left all of his and my husband and I ate one each. Really very disappointing, and let the whole meal down. The waitress came to ask if everything was OK with our main course, and we told her all was delicious apart from the potatoes that were really poor quality… unfortunately, she just laughed ( I expect out of nerves/ not knowing what to say) and I assumed she would have told someone senior. But, appears not as the next thing was someone else asking about puddings, we declined as by now it was 4.30pm. When payment for the bill was taken the waitress asked how was the food… once again came some polite but honest feedback - she was more apologetic. So a mixed picture - slow with food, awful roast potatoes and lacking some customer service imho. Hoping this was just a one off, as it is a magical spot for a winters lunch by the fire.

The Hour Glass Inn – ExeterHad a lovely roast at The Hour Glass Inn yesterday. I had the chicken and my friend had the beef — both were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, and very generous portions. The gravy was delicious and really brought everything together. The staff were amazing: friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. A great atmosphere and a real gem in Exeter. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
