China Essence Restaurant – CarnforthWe are regulars at The Spread Eagle and the food is always excellent - must say though that Sunday's meal was the best ever. Do try the game casserole if it's on the menu!
Spread Eagle – ClitheroeOnly had a quick bite at lunch whilst using their wifi. The sarnie was with their homemade bread which was soft with crusty edges and delicious. Also had a homemade biscuit with my coffee. The place has had a big refurb and matches the quality of the grub!
The Redwell Country Inn and Restaurant – CarnforthThis restaurant serves us with a good meal every time we come here. The staff are attentive and friendly but leave you to it once you have everything you need. The food is always tasty and fresh, the portions are good and do not over face me as a find in many Indians. I must of nearly worked my way through the menu and have not yet been served something i didn't enjoy. The relaxed atmosphere and smart decor make this the perfect place to go for a curry at a good price. And all washed down with a good pint of draught Indian lager.
Bay Leaves – ChorleyThis is a nice comfortable country pub just outside Ormskirk. Genial host Andy and good atmosphere, guest beers , open fires and the food, which is traditional style is very good indeed, good quality and well cooked. There is a Carvery on wed night and all day sunday, a cut above chain venues, I must say. Reasonable prices and well recommended.
The Kicking Donkey – Ormskirklove this place, its cosy and very romantic, staff are really nice and friendly, and vegetarian menu is fab
Parmesan And Pepper – ChorleyAgree with the previous reviewer/. Arrived on 5th November and the restaurant was largely empty which of course impacts on the atmosphere. However the staff and James the boss/head chef where very attentive and made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent . I had scallops for a starter which were the most "scallopy" scallops I'd had for ages. For the main I had lamb which was melt in the mouth and in a delicious sauce. and then for a dessert I had caramelised pineapple, apple and banana in a ginger infused syrup with ice cream--the flavours in that were spectacular. I'm gob-smacked the restaurant is not full all the time . Couple of things...the lighting changes colours and doesn't doesn't do the appearance of the food any favours--when the lights shift to yellow/orange it looks beautiful, when its red it looks like something out of a horror film. The menu is interesting and I wonder whether it feels as adventurous as some of the menus you see on the plethora of tv shows nowadays. I'd have to say that what it doesn't bring out is the care that James takes in sourcing his food and the fact that he cooks his food better than the majority of restaurants in the region. We'll definitely be going back for gourmet evenings that they hold regularly there and I do hope that a few more folk go through the doors---the care and attention and great food deserve it.
Truffles – ChorleyParts of the meal were amazing and parts very disappointing. Not for vegetarians as there are only two starters to choose from and only fish of the day for non meat eaters. Forage soup was tasteless green water and although the fish was cooked well the care and attention that was paid to the meat dishes was not lavished on the fish that was served with green beans and two pieces of cold uncooked brocolli. The pre starter of goats cheese and beetroot sorbet and the desserts were excellent. Sorry Nigel, I think you're missing an opportunity by not including more non meat dishes.
Northcote – Blackburnwe just came back from spending a weekend at Lancaster, we found etna on our 2nd night just by chance, OH MY GOD everything about the place was outstanding, I had steak my husband had chicken in white wine sauce, both meals were delicious, we were recommended a sparkling rose wine which was lovely and had profiteroles for desert. all staff from being greeted at the door from the waiter who took our order and the owner who was sociable and funny were a pleasure, the best steak i had ever tasted. the whole experience was a delight.
Etna Pizza Pasta – LancasterThis was our first time at truffles and we were very impressed. Initially we unsure as it was a wednesday night and the restaurant was largely empty, however we were soon won over by the extensive menu and excellent quality food. The staff were very attentive and despite there only being a few customers the staff were thoughtful about the seating ensuring there was still plenty of atmosphere. We had a lovely night and cant understand why this restaurant isn't packed every night of the week with such good food for reasonable prices. We particularly liked the ability to mix and match between the bistro and a la carte menus meaning that a night out need not be costly either! Our only slight irritation was the lighting - whilst it did create ambience by changing colour, during certain phases of the cycle it was difficult to see the food!
Truffles – ChorleyVisited the Redwell midweek and we were very impressed with the food. Good selection and separate "Specials" menu. We had a fantastic lamb dish (cooked in a water bath) and tasty Monkfish dish; and beautifully presented starters of smoked salmon with a cheese sorbet, and tiger prawns with a cucumber spaghetti. Service was very friendly, both the owner and chef came over to chat. The place has been renovated recently by the new owners, and looks very smart. As a pub the real ale selection is good, with well kept Timothy Taylors and Hawkshead beers. Great place !
The Redwell Country Inn and Restaurant – CarnforthAstley Bank is a true ''Jewel inthe Crown''....''Oasis in the Desert'' Situated just off the A666 through Darwen in a beautiful quiet area. I have dined here many times. The quality of the food, presentation, and service is par excellence. The Daily Lunch-time and Allday Sunday Menu are excellent value and for that extra special evening the A La Carte menu is not to be missed.A delightful dining experience if ...like me you enjoy the ambience of beautifully laid tables with starch white linen... rarely found these days.An extra special treat was to start my Wedding Anniversary with their Delicious Breakfast.Enjoy
Astley Bank – DarwenCame here a few week ago with my husband at lunchtime> we shared a tapas meal for 2 which was more than plenty and it was excellent> place was really clean and the staff was really lovely and polite , the chef actually came out of the kitchen and explained what everything was on our tapas plate. Definitely going again soon
O’Marley – BlackburnI haven't chosen to recommend Checco's. The staff were patronising and condescending, for what is little more than a Pizza Express in what feels like a cheaply decorated community centre. My main gripe against Checco's, was the focaccia bread fiasco. I ordered tomato focaccia bread, the waiter brought me garlic bread with tomato sauce on it, I asked the waiter if he'd brought me garlic bread with tomato sauce on it, he told me yes he had, so I pointed out that I had ordered the focaccia bread. He replaced my garlic bread with another garlic bread, this time I asked if it was focaccia bread, and he patted me on the back and told me it was. The garlic bread happened to be more expensive, so thumbs up in the long run. But being treated like a idiot is not going to win repeat customers or a positive review.
Checcos – PrestonWe came across the pub by chance on a Sunday. They had a Sunday lunch menu as well as a la carte.Choice was excellent & no course disappointed.from seafood or black pudding with belly pork starter. With mains of roast beef or pork both satisfying the taste buds. A good range in the sweet department which should make everyone happy. And if wine is your tipple you cant go wrong with their selection. Take some friends,we will definitely be going back.
Duke of York – ClitheroeCalled in recently for Sunday lunch. 1st time of visiting this establishment and found the mixture of old world pub charm and excellent restaurant cuisine amazing. Staff were very friendly and the food delicious.
The Red Pump Inn – ClitheroeWe originally found Amico Mio on Sugarvine.com and have visited many times now, but most recently went on Friday night, and as always was very busy, with the usual romantic atmosphere, a guitarist playing in the background and the staff very attentive, and also had a chilled bottle of Rose waiting at my table on arrival made this a special birthday for my wife. The food doesn’t really need a mention as it was as spectacular as ever, this is far from your usual “authentic” Italian restaurant. If you’re looking for a nice calming romantic meal or a lively fun evening with family and friends then Amico Mio is the place for you. Keep up the good work.........Brillante, Bravo
Amico Mio – ClitheroeWent to the Clog and Billycock for lunch today. I have been there before and have previously enjoyed the food. However, they have now changed the menu for Sunday and the choice is now slightly limited. I understand that on Sunday the chefs have more to contend with now they make a Sunday lunch but the choice is now disappointing. My partner was looking forward to pork which was on their website as the main for Sunday lunch. On viewing the menu we found it was actually lamb and they had not updated their website correctly. He eventually chose the hotpot which was a bit soupy. As a vegetarian I looked at the menu and wanted to walk out-I wish I had now. The choice was a massive cheese and onion pie that would serve 4 people but is meant to serve 1 person or a summer vegetable salad. Having eaten my breakfast quite late I opted for the salad. The salad was average with a few chunks of cheese, a few pieces of fennel, courgette and red onion with some cherry tomatoes and masses of salad leaves with dressing which basically just tasted like greenery and would have cost about £5 in any other restaurant instead of the £8.95 I paid. It would be nice to have a couple more options like the grilled mushroom they used to do at their sister pub 'the three fishes' and the fritters they do from Mon to Sat. It's fair to say I will no be going back as I feel I could have made better at home.
