The portions are generous and the atmosphere is good ,like a taverna. The home made pate makes ardennes look second rate , and is a must especially topping a fillet steak. The pizzas are traditional and not overfacing, full of flavour and conceptually magnificent. The place can be crowded with a lively atmosphere, testament to the food and popularity.well worth a detour. mark and sue

I am not recommending I was disappointed in today on visiting the boat yard. The meal was cold the chips were frozen. The used to be home made. The veg was tinned peas and frozen carrots. Not a bit like their normal standard, at all.

An excellent venue, with superb staff. Had an excellent meal off the new Table d'Hote menu and enjoyed the free champagne. As for the price of the wines, as mentioned by 'Cc', there was nothing expensive about them at all. In fact, all the wines were available by the glass, which is not often seen, and the staff were very knowledgeable about the drinks. Its not often you get to drink a refreshing wine in a 15th century building next to a blazing fire! The barman told me that the wines are sourced from Byrne's in Clitheroe, which will be my next stop to pick up some of the excellent rioja!

Following a recent revamp and new ownership the Spread is a scenic and pleasant place to enjoy good food. Modern British cooking with old favorites such as fish & chips etc on the main menu and a special menu (called the Weather Report) with some slightly more adventurous dishes. Recently reviewed and recommended by the Manchester Evening News the same menu is available in the pleasant bar and the dining room.

We visited the Fleece on a Saturday night in February 2009 for drinks in the bar followed by a meal in the separate restaurant room. The Fleece is a traditional many roomed pub at Dolphinholme with a central bar serving very well kept cask ales. There were 6 beers on hand pump, all from different breweries, including Bowland and Clark’s. The restaurant had a reasonably priced printed menu along with various Starter and Mains “Specials” listed on a blackboard. The Mains “Specials” were around £10-£15 for the likes of “Chicken Breast with Chorizo Mash and Field Mushrooms in a Marsala sauce”. A Sea Bass dish was also on. Deserts included a gorgeous “Crème Brulee of the day” and Lakeland Ices. The pub was busy but service was very prompt and friendly, and the food really was excellent. It was a cut above the normal pub grub around Lancaster, although not up to the nearby Bay Horse standard, but also not as expensive. All-in-all a good old-fashioned pub serving good beer and well above average food.

Went to the Left Bank following positive comments from a close female friend of mine, where we later dined together. I must admit that I was impressed with the very attentive service, a very fairly priced two-course menu with a good choice of starters and mains. Nice décor and general ambience, good food and wine, and great company made our visit very memorable.

This is the 4th time we have visited Amelies and once again we were delighted. My husband was celebrating his 50th birthday and we were thrilled with the informal, personal and attentive service delivered by the hostess Anamarie. she is a charming lady and makes the whole dining experience wonderful . The food is outstanding in its quality and presentation, worth every penny. The atmosphere is warm, relaxing and cosy, a perfect location .It will continue to be our first choice for a special occasion, without a doubt.

We stumbled across the Fusion room while looking for a bit to eat once lunch time - the decor suggested that it was a Japanese or Asian restaurant. However, we were surprised to find that the lunch menu consisted of Tapas and traditional English fare - which is a strange disconnect between the look of the place and the menu. Pressing on, we tried the tapas - chilli calamari, Thai fishcakes, Spanish meatballs, tempura vegetables (10gbp for 4 tapas or 18gbp for 7) and a selection of bread. The table service service was prompt and polite. The food was fine (decent portion sizes) except that the tempura vegetables were slightly uncooked. The wine selection was also good. Overall, we were impressed with the quality and price of the food (overlooking the strange disconnection between the style of the place and the menu content) and would recommend to friends. We took a look at the evening menu and will be making a trip to try it.

We (there were 4 of us) went on a Sunday evening at about 5:15pm it was not very busy, the service was fast they came and seated us as soon as we arrived; the staff were all very pleasant. Having not been before we were not aware of how the system worked so as we looked at the menu we saw that people on other tables were ordering about 3-4 dishes each, so we picked out about 4 dishes each, my daughter who was a bit apprehensive about the food ordered what she recognised ( i.e. chicken wings, meatballs). The order came in about 5 minutes and it was all very hot and you could tell that it had all been freshly made (we had white fish in batter and it was still sizzling) all the other things we ordered were very nice and so we all picked at each others dishes, I had ordered roast potatoes in a spicy sauce, and when I came to get them my daughter had eaten most of them. After we had polished off the whole lot the waiter came and gave us the menu back to look at and we then picked other dishes, some we had not yet tried and some of the same (I got 2 lots of the potatoes this time). I do believe that we could have picked again but by that time we were all full. For drinks we had a jug of sangria, and a total of 4 cokes and also 2 pints of larger. And there were also 2 chocolate cakes. The bill came to £67, we did have a bit of a problem with the bill (they charged us £11.95 for the buffet, which is the Saturday night price) but I will take that as a genuine mistake, after we pointed it out they changed it. All in all it was a very nice meal and we will be going back again, but the only problem is that you could not go here every week as with only 40 items on the tapas menu and with 4 of you going you would soon have gone though the whole lot.

Overpriced, pretentious and uninviting. My partner and I went for a meal after work on a Friday night after friends had recommended the restaurant to us. Staff were inattentive and we were left waiting 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drinks order. We both ordered the tomato and goats cheese tart as a starter and were very disappointed. £5.95 for a 2cm by 2cm square of tasteless, cold, pureed vegetables on one side of the plate and an even smaller pastry case with lukewarm goats cheese is not my idea of value for money. For mains, we ordered one each of the two vegetarian dishes on the menu. For £15.95 each, my partner received what appeared to be baked beans, mushrooms and breadcrumbs, while I had Aubergine cannelloni. Neither meal was particularly pleasant and definitely did not justify the high price tag. The menu also stated each meal would be served with seasonal veg and potatoes but we only received a small bowl between us. At this point we decided to get the bill and leave. Very, very disappointing.

This is the best Indian I have ever been too. The food is brilliant, atmosphere is great not dead, not too lively and the staff are so helpful and friendly. If you are having trouble deciding they will suggest dishes and their murghi chicken massala is amazing. I would recommend this to anyone and frequently have!!

Wednesday 18th Feb2009.It will be at least 30years since we have eaten as well as this in this area!Possibly when Mr. Haworth and his son had the Stirk House. The food was excellent and the service was unbelievably good..The atmosphere, the decor and the staff were top drawer. Back to the food,I have not eaten chicken livers as good or a pepper steak as perfectly cooked in many years in this country, and my wifes scallops were talked about all the way home!It all comes at a price though and The Villa is not cheap but believe me it is very, very good!!

Tiger Lounge – Clitheroe

Had an excellent smoked salmon baguette at The Wheatsheaf. The place has real character and the staff our attentive and friendly. I also didn't realise how interesting and antiquated the village of Croston was. Give it a go.

The surroundings are lovely and the food was good, however the wine by the glass was very expensive. We were not given a wine menu at the bar and we thought we had ordered housewine. The Pinot Grigio was £7.95 per glass and the Rioja £12.50 PER GLASS. As we are regular patrons of the restaurant, I emailed them with regard to these disappointing prices. I did not receive a reply.

Great atmosphere with superb food and drink. Only 5 minutes drive from home so we can enjoy anytime, the only downside I can think off is that Jon is an Evertonian. :-( Boo..

I am a regular at the clog and was very exited to see they had a new menu. I had Crab cake to start which was excellent, my wife had the onion tart which looked brilliant too. Then we had 2 deviled chicken - nice but maybe slightly overcooked. No room for desserts, but the ones on the table next to us looked delicious. It gets insanely busy in the evening so if you want to avoid an hour wait for a table i suggest you go early rather than later.
