Dennington Lane Curry Club

Well what can we say. From walking through the door to a friendly welcome, the pleasant surroundings and absolutely incredible food we were really taken aback. As a club we travel across Yorkshire sampling food (mainly curries) and this restaurant is the first to have astounded us all with the flavours and quality of the food. four dishes we asked to be modified to our requirements and each was no problem whatsoever to the staff, and was served to each persons request. The Nawabi lamb was stunning, the chicken achar exquisite. All other dishes were being held in the highest regard. So much so that this restaurant has achieved the first ever DLCC 10/10 rating on all counts. Well done to everyone at the restaurant.

First visited Prashad about 15 years ago before I moved away from Yorkshire. Popped in over Easter on our way to Saltaire and we were blown away by the amazing food and service on offer here. Over the years I've eaten in many wonderful curryhouses but this really is the best. Their Dosa's are simply amazing (better than the ones I've had recently at Lasan in Birmingham), the special chaat was incredible, the Mango Lassi was again wonderful....I could go on. Great restaurant, great service and great prices. Couldn't recommend enough

I have just been for Sunday lunch with my wife on a friends recommendation. The staff were very welcoming and service was excellent. Sunday lunch is usually a carvery or a "rushed affair" but this was a totally different dining experience. I had the homemade pate which was delicious, then roast loin of pork which was locally sourced and seasonal vegetables all cooked to perfection. My wife had the Yorkshire pudding to start with and they were enormous (delicious gravy too). Then the leg of lamb arrived and it was so succulent. Then the creme brulee (which is my wifes favourite sweet) the best one ever in her opinion. A breath of fresh air in Sunday dining. Will definitely return soon.

What a disappointment! I used to eat there few years ago when the service and the atmosphere were excellent. Unfortunately something must have changed as yesterday I had a very disappointing experience when I went there to eat with a good friend with the intention of treating ourselves. The food was average: I ordered a Vegetable Tempura that was nice but slightly cold. My main course was a Green Thai Curry with coconut rice. The curry was blunt and lacked of any flavor while the rice had certainly not been in contact with any coconut! The service was mediocre too. On top of this, when it was time to pay, the POS was not working properly and it nearly took us 20 minutes to pay. No apologies were given and we had to insist to have the copies of the failed transactions. The bill reached a good £80 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 cocktails (and no wine!!!). We would have not minded it should have we been satisfied. I think I will give it a miss for another couple of years and see if things might improve!

We visited this place about four years ago and it was excellent; hence the return visit on Thursday 8th April 2010. I so wanted to be leaving a positive review but regrettably we were disappointed on this occasion. We booked for 8.30, arrived in good time and were seated immediately. The waiter was very pleasant and I asked him about a particular white wine. He explained that he was new and wasn't sure but could ask. We decided on a white Rioja. Unfortunately we were initially served a red - a simple mistake that was quickly rectified. We ordered various tapas and some plain bread. We were advised that they had run out of bread! We found this somewhat surprising that this could occur at such an early time in the evening. We were not offered an alternative. Had it been my place, I would have raced to a supermarket in order to offer diners something, even if it meant letting customers know that it may not be up to the usual standard. Our order included a salad with an oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. We both felt that there was a distinct lack of the balsamic. We were asked late on in the meal if all was OK and we mentioned this and were offered more but we had almost finished and there seemed little point. From the dessert menu I opted for a selection of Spanish cheeses which I was told was three varieties; Manchego and two other unnamed ones - but this was reduced to two by the time it arrived. I was told that I had been given more of the remaining two but was not given a choice of declining the reduced offerring. The majority of the food was of a good standard however the evening was somewhat spoiled by the errors and omissions. The waiting staff, despite lacking in knowledge, were pleasant and helpful. When the time came to pay the bill I discussed the problems with a lady I presumed to be the manageress who said she would talk to the chef. She returned to say that they were not prepared to do anything and then said that the bill could be reduced by the cost of the salad. At this point the chef bounded from the kitchen and in a verbally aggressive tone, said that with the bread issue we could have had an alternative such as dough balls - this was not offerred at the time and is more akin to Pizza Hut and hardly authentic Spanish fayre! The manageress proceeded to tell us that she had checked the salad bowl and confirmed that it did contain balsamic vinegar - how did she do this I wonder? Is there a special balsamic vinegar testing kit available to the catering trade or did she lick the dish? After further heated discussion in full view of other diners, the bill was reduced by the cost of the cheese selection. All we were looking for was a gesture of goodwill in light of our reduced dining experience, however the whole evening has left us with a bitter taste in our mouths and we will not return.

The following is the actual letter I wrote to Mumtaz following a terrible night there. If you take nothing away more than remembering to ask for your parking ticket to be stamped, then there was a point to this review. The outcome of the complaint after much communication was a rather insulting "£20 voucher off" our next meal there, received over a month later. We duly returned the voucher... Haven spoken to the Manager, Rap, and the floor manager, I am, as suggested, writing to let you know about the series of events that upset our Valentines diner at your establishment last night. From start to finish, nothing seemed to go right, and by that I mean from booking on the phone to leaving the car park. I have no idea where you are trying to position the restaurant, but I was looking for a high class experience, and it was simply dreadful, worse than the service I would have expected in a greasy spoon cafe! Clearly it was valentine’s day and I had already booked to see the Opera at The Grand in Leeds. After seeing a news story about how Clarence Place was suffering, I decided to look up the restaurants as I am from London and do not know Leeds. The promise of a new restaurant that had spent millions on the decor seemed a great choice, however, this list of issues below perhaps shows why the area is in dire straits: On booking, I was told there was ONLY the choice of the set menu that night, yet I saw other people ordering alternative food On arrival, the staff that were milling around the entrance seemed uninterested that we had pre-booked, and for ease to us pre-paid After a short spell huddled on over-crowded sofas, We were shown to a table and left there for 15 minutes, then, a different waitress took pity on us and asked if we were being looked after, to which we replied no, and she went and at least got us at the valentines menu to look at. We were giving some fizzy grape juice, with no mention of any other drinks available, yet I saw other people with non alcoholic cocktails, we were not provided with any sort of drinks menu The food came, which was fine, not great, but fine. The dessert came, which was not, two specific complaints, the milk pudding was served with a tiny tea spoon, we had to ask twice for an “adult size” spoon, the ice cream was more like a milk shake it was so melted and the drips down the side and base made it look dirty. Is it too much to have them wiped before they are served? We did not eat the puddings. The table was cleared and we were left sitting there. We waited and tried to decide what to do, I had after all paid before we arrived. We sat with our coats on but no sign of our waiter. A different waitress came up and asked us what are we waiting for? I replied I don’t know, our table is clear can I have a bill or receipt or something? She said we should take the bill folder to the front desk, our waiter never mentioned this. Despite me telling several people we had paid, I was asked again for £49.95 I complained at the time, and the floor Manageress who asked us to take a seat. While we waited, an unannounced coffee we didn’t want arrived (which we didn’t drink), followed by the floor manager with a box of Indian sweets (which are not to our taste) by way of apology. I thought this was a joke, but as the evening was ruined enough could not muster the energy to make any more of a fuss, that is until I got to the car park... To top it all, we went to the car park to pay for parking (£4.50). I fellow guest who had seen us in the restaurant came up to me and said, oh, in future Mumtaz will validate your parking ticket for free! No mention at any time of this when in the restaurant, how would we know to ask? So not only did we have a truly terrible time, we paid 10% more than everyone else for the privilege! Finally, this meal was advertised as a Valentines Dinner. I am not sure what this was supposed to mean. There was absolutely no effort to make the place feel in any way valentines, one tiny red candle does not make a valentines dinner, no flowers, no mood lighting, just a regular over priced and under-performing night at Mumtaz. Really really bad.

I have eaten at Gusto several times now. I have had the usual menu, specials menu, early bird menu & the 2 for 1 pasta or pizza offer and I can not fault the food, service or value at all. Gusto is the best Italian restaurant in the area. I highly recommend it especially the butterflied sardines!

We have been going to Gimbal's occasionally for about 5 years now and we've never been disappointed. The food is always excellent, the menu changes regularly and the service is very friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. They will occasionally do a mid week promo of 2 courses for £15, or 3 courses for £18 which is well worth it. They have also gone the extra mile for us in the past, for example, they opened especially for us one Sunday afternoon for our daughters christening and last night they cooked her favourite food that wasn't on the menu simply because we asked if they did it when we phoned up to book (they even offered to open 30 mins early). It's things like this that make a very good restaurant that something a bit more special.

Not a great night out but alright. Service slow and we didn't all we had ordered. Complaint to Manager got aggressive response but we did eventually get food. Sort of 'pile em high and sell em cheap' which is ok if that's what you want.

Me and my family and also my boyfriends family have been going to the Fox House for years, it hasn't changed at all in the 12 years I have been coming. The food is amazing, proper pub grub what food should be like and you just know the meat is fresh and will be good English standard. The steaks are to die for, 12ox sirloin mega and with proper chips and onion rings, my boyfriend always has the liver and onions with bacon and now my mum has to have the lamp chops everytime we go, still never tried the carvery however it always looks mega, the steaks are v v special the best i have ever had amazing, the price and the service is fantastic too the staff are always happy to help and friendly. worth the travel we live in glossop so we are lucky it isn't that far. Will be going this weekend for my birthday!! cant wait. :)

We went to the Great Wall on Thursday, April 1 2010 and had a great time. The staff are the friendliest we have encountered at any restaurant. We had the banquet for two and every course was excellent and great value for money. We have lived nearby for 12 years but this was our first visit. It certainly wont be another 12 years before we visit again.

Visited The Peppered Pig and was not disappointed, the surroundings are tastefully decorated and very welcoming with a large patio area for the summer to enjoy a meal and bottle of wine, which i am looking forward to experiencing once the sun comes. Our meals were cooked to perfection arrived hot and very well presented by a smiling and pleasant waitress. Well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.
