San Carlo – Manchester City CentreSorry to be negative about this restaurant, and this is the first time for me, but I have to say that I feel this place is a complete rip off. When we arrived, the staff were very attentive, however they must have a pretty short span of attention. Once we were seated at 8 pm and had ordered, the food arrived and I must say we all were pretty non-plussed by the standard. We had chosen the more expensive of the two 'banquets'. This began with a scallop dish served with angel hair noodles which were swimming with a flavoured oil which totally masked the taste of the scallop. The next course was lobster which was overcooked and again the sauce was far too highly flavoured and the lobster may as well have been cod! The main courses were forgettable and small - the four of us left still peckish. While we were eating our mains and sweets, the staff were wheeling in and out tables and we felt very unwelcome. The bill exceeded £300 (we did have a fair few drinks) for four people and we left wishing we had gone elsewhere. I know this restaurant is frequented by footballers and Corrie celebs. They must have small brains and big wallets!
Wings – Manchester City Centrevisited Zaika last night for my birthday. we were warmly greeted at the door and our cats were taken to be stored in a safe place. we were shown to the entrance lounge where we ere provided with menus and our drinks order taken the vegetarian range was limited but they were able to make dishes that were not on the menu at my request - which i think is a good sign at an eating establishment for starters we had veg samosas and paneer tikka - samosas were in the filo pastry type of pastry and was light and crispy and the paneer was a wonderful texture and really tasty our mains were also delicious - the tandoori roti was better than the plain naan- thinner and crispier great service, everything was well presented- the decor was great and there were several sections to the restaurant, whereby should you want to have private dining facilities or a small party then you could so - a first for Indian restaurants in Manchester All in all I had a very enjoyable meal to celebrate my birthday
Zaika – Manchester City Centrebeen coming to this place for years and the lunchtime menu is a must... great staff and always a pleasure to eat here...
Pearl City Cantonese Restaurant – Manchester City Centrevery nicely decorated.
Zaika – Manchester City CentreWent for a look at Velvet on a Friday evening, based on the reviews, because we couldn't get into Sweet Mandarin. The reviewers who suggested that the mussels were good were spot-on, they really were. Lovely rich tomato base to the sauce. The risotto main had a lovely texture, even though it was a tiny bit dry (I prefer it wetter and finished al forno), and was made with a very nice selection of funghi. I had rib-eye, it's not very often that I eat steak out but I was very happy, lovely light charring to the outside and still pink and moist inside. Fantastic staff, they are rushed off their feet most evenings but can still have a laugh with you. Didn't do puddings - but the cocktails are great. Got up late the morning after and had excellent breakfast - coffee and very yummy pastries at Wong Wong Bakery just up Princess St. However, if you prefer Velvet do a take-away breakfast too.
Velvet – Manchester City CentreIf Akabars, East Z East and Zouk are the man utd, chelsea and arsenal of the Manchester Indian posh restaurant scene, then Zaika have a long way to go to gain a champions league position.Dont get me wrong they have spent a fortune on the deco and easily compares to the other three in ambiance, but the comparisons end there.I'll stick with my season tickets elsewhere.
Zaika – Manchester City Centrehad a meal at this place last Thursday after being told it was'the best Tapas ever'. unfortunately it was the worst Tapas ever. Tasteless. food, (the meatballs looked and tasted as though they had a can of chopped tomatoes poured on them). I have eaten at La Tasca and the food there is miles better than this pap. Avoid.
El Rincon de Rafa – Manchester City CentreAVOID AT ALL COSTS! I had a terrible meal at Rosso last night. The service was absolutely appalling. It took 20 minutes to seat us (even though we booked a week in advance) One of the meals was off and made one of our party gag! We had to ask four times for the bill. AND the food was AVERAGE. I would never go again. P.S. I don't usually write reviews but had to make an exception for this shockingly bad establishment. Spend your money at one of Manchester's nice restaurants! McDonalds would have been nicer.
Rosso – Manchester City CentreWould never eat there again, food poisoning and four days of feeling miserable and the memory of that burger!
Mud Crab at Grinch – Manchester City Centrevery nice food and good service as well, could have larger portions thought!
Old Orleans – The PrintworksLovely restaurant, food and service. Will definitely be returning soon!
The Grill On the Alley – Manchester City CentreI visited Stock on Saturday 6th of Feb with a group of 6 friends and had the worst dining experience of my life. I have read very bad reviews about Stock but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt because of the wonderful setting. I implore you to not waste your money at this establishment after our shocking experience. Some of the waiting staff were extremely unprofessional forgetting orders, not clearing starter plates, not bringing wine lists and most worryingly being curt and rude whilst the wait for our food was intolerable. We waited 60 minutes for starters and just before they arrived we were informed there was no pate and when they did arrive the Ravioli Neri was still cold/frozen. The mains arrived a further hour later. Numerous complaints were made to the manager and owner who placed two bottle of house wine on our table but would not discount the bill for the long delays, mistakes, rudeness and general tardiness. We paid the full £180 bill, tipped the one waiter (Leo) who tried to salvage the night £20 and they offered us free coffees. A shameful example of how not to run a restaurant.
Stock Restaurant – Manchester City CentreDo NOT go here, food is awful, overpriced and the service is terrible. We were very disappointed!
Khan Baba – Manchester City CentreI HATE this place. I hate it because I came close to leaving my wife, packing in my job and working here as a toilet cleaner in exchange for one meal a day from this fantastic restaurant - this has been my favourite restaurant experience since I dined at the Fat Duck 3 years ago. This is without doubt the best Japanese food I have had and I've eaten a lot plus the proprieter Monica is an absolute sweetheart (not to mention a stone cold hotty!). I'm struggling to find words to describe how good this is, everything - and I mean EVERYTHING I have eaten there has been sublime - best gyoza by far, best salmon sashimi by far, best beef sashimi by far, best yakisoba by far - need I go on? If you enjoy impeccable food in a great little restaurant with fantastic staff and an out of this world hostess then you must try this place - I highly recommend asking nicely and giving Monica free-reign to choose your menu, a friend and I did and for £50 (well £60 really, I left a £10 tip) we had one of the best meals of our lives. So good I have eaten there at least 18 times in the past 2 months. Be nice to your tastebuds, treat them to a meal at Tokyo Season!
Tokyo Season – Manchester City CentreWouldn't eat here again. Ordered a vegetarian lasagna and was served a meat lasagna! Not good for a veggie of over 20 years..
Villaggio – Manchester City CentreJust wanted to say to all - what a fantastic day me and my husband had at Zouk's Indian cookery classes. It was absolutely brilliant we had a really fabulous days.. The cookery demonstration and learning was fun, as well as being very informative, there was plenty of time to ask questions and too see someone who is so passionate about a food in action was quite mind blowing. The lunch we all shared together was the best Indian food we've ever eaten. I would highly recommend this amazing cooking class to anyone who enjoys a relaxed fun environment and good food.
