Cafe Istanbul – Manchester City CentreI wouldn't bother with this tapas bar. You may think you are getting value for money but the service was awful. We waited 40 minutes to get the attention of the waiter who was lounging on the bar to re-order. The food was awful. Brown lettuce and tasted just like it was a poor microwaved dish. I felt ill in the night and my friend had the runs. Really, you may think you are getting value but it is a waste of money.
La Salsa – HorwichMomentum is just what is needed in westhoughton, having just the right mix of opulence without being pretentious, very Cosy and a great menu also good choice of wines and cocktails, we will be visiting regularly I'm sure
Momentum Restaurant & Lounge – Westhoughtonabsolutely fabulous, great food & service, would recommend
Rigalettos – WiganA couple of friends and I went to the White Rooms for lunch on a Saturday in August 2011 and were really disappointed. The food was actually quite good but let down by terrible service. There were three waitresses on staff, none of whom seemed to have much experience in waiting tables but were pretty content to chat to each other and some regulars and ignore us. We were only offered one drink, had to repeatedly get their attention (which was not easy!) to request condiments/coffee/the bill and when we ordered three cappuccino's we served cold, regular coffees with a chocolate dusting - not quite like any cappuccino I've ever seen and all the worse for being cold!! It wasn't obvious whether they always serve cold coffee or whether it was cold due to the 15 minutes that elapsed between the order and the delivery. To make it even worse, the unsteady hand of the waitress poured it out all over the saucers - which we were left to clean up. In the end, we didn't even complain as the waitresses clearly didn't understand the basics of good service so it seemed pointless. It took us almost two hours to get through lunch due to the very slow service, which I could sympathise with if they were having a busy lunch but they weren't - the restaurant was half full and the waitresses were standing around chatting for the most part. It will be a while before I try the White Rooms again, although the food (we had salads and chips) was actually good, it was incidental to a pretty rubbish experience.
The White Room – WhitefieldI visited here with friends four friends last night for the first time (we previously have been loads of times and enjoyed in when it was Baroccos) The refurbishment was excellent and much needed and the food was fine (not fantastic) but enjoyable apart from my starter brushetta with goats cheese as the brushetta was burnt. As soon as we arrived we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc as we do in all the restaurants we visit monthly when we meet up. We ordered a second bottle at the table but they had run out and offered us a bottle of rose Prosecco instead which was lovely and refreshing. My complaints about the restaurant are: There was no gap between courses - the garlic bread arrived with the starter followed by the main course with no time lapse and the next thing we were being asked about sweets. The young staff must have asked us about seven times how are evening went and by 10:00 they were clearing up behind us drying and clattering all the knives and forks and obviously anxious to get rid of us. So as we are used to our relaxing evenings locally at the former Baroccos, Toby Inn Edgworth, San Marino Belmont, Budda Lounge Ramsbottom, this was not the case. The bill, we couldn't believe - it was extortionate for what we had as two of us just ate pasta. It came to over £30 per head and we had only had two bottles of wine. Normally we drink at least four or five for that price and are left to chill and relax. The Sauvignon Blanc was priced at an amazing £20 per bottle and the Prosecco £18. The mark up on these nice but average wines was way too much and the young staff clearly wanted to leave early - so we were left very much disappointed and will be sticking to our regular haunts from now on - which is a shame as it is very local.
Ciao Baby – BoltonThis place is amazing. You may have to wait a while if its busy but the food is top quality and fresh. The desserts are too much for one person! The view fantastic from the restaurant window as well. Well worth travelling to. Not expensive and generous helpings. Homemade pies and great fish. We travelled a fair way to try it and were not disappointed. We'll be regulars.
The Fisherman’s Retreat – Ramsbottomvisited the stables for the first time yesterday, food delicious, service quick and friendly, highly recommended.
Stables Restaurant – HydeBrilliant! We had a really lovely meal here on Tuesday 16 August 2011 and we thought it was well worth a recommendation. The restaurant looks very plain from the outside but don't be put off by this; the inside is pleasant, modern with nice fittings, lighting etc. We had a nice booth seat with a circular table we thought was nice. The menu is traditional Indian food with some special dishes included. For starters we had poppadoms, chutneys, a mixed starter and onion bhajis. The onion bhajis were enormous and would hardly fit on the plate. What I liked was that they were crispy and had no soggy bits of onion inside them. We also especially liked one of the chutneys the starters came with it was a red sweet and sour concoction - I could have eaten the whole pot! All of the starter food was delicious, hot, spicy and nicely presented. The starters came with fresh salad and lemon. For the main course we had a tandoori shaslick with salad, lamb madras, vegetable curry sauce, plain rice and chips. We were really impressed with the quality of the food. The meat was fantastic with no stringy bits and the madras sauce was really tasty. The portions were LARGE. We gave the meal 10/10. I would add that the service was nice and friendly and I had house wine with my meal which was nice and very drinkable. There were two of us and the meal came to under £40 which we thought was very reasonable given what we had! Helen
