Cafe Lahore – OldhamWe truly cannot fault a single thing about our evening in Nutters, we arrived early to be met at the door and shown to the lavish yet comfortable bar area, there we had a drink and tasty canapes' brought to us and chose our meals, we were sat at our table on the dot at 7.30 and food brought out to us immediately by very polite and welcoming staff, the surrounding was perfectly lit and the food had the most amazing flavours my tastebuds had ever tasted, I had to have the bury black pudding wontons (being a Bury lass)and my partner had the hand dived scallops. . .WOW!!For mains I had the goosnargh duck fillet whilst my partner had the fillet of beef that were both so perfectly cooked, we had an amazing half bottle of wine (£22) that accompanied the meal. the dark chocolate and orange souffle with grand marnier soaked satsumas was out of this world. Thank you to all the staff for a thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience, we were so delighted by it we have bought £35 gift voucher for a family member to experience the gourmet menu that we saw the table near us try. The evening came to £105 including our 'posh' birthday wine splash out and was definitely worth every penny!! We have agreed that it is going to be difficult to match anything like the food we had in Greater Manchester/Lancashire
Nutters Restaurant – RochdaleWe went to the "Windmill" in Denton (Manchester East) for a meal and we'll definitely go again. The Windmill is a fairly large pub with a separate section for the carvery. The prices for the food are exceptionally good value, £3.50 before 5 pm and £4.25 after. To have your meal in the carvery, you buy a ticket at the bar together with your drink. After choosing your table (you don't have to wait to be placed by a member of staff), you go to the carvery, where there are three different meats for a choice, cut by a member of the catering staff. (You can sample more than one type of meat if you like; Yorkshire pudding is available as well.) Next thing is to help yourself with as much stuffing, potatoes and vegetable as you like - gravy and condiments are available on a separate table at the side. The food quality is as good as you would expect from a half-decent pub. Cutlery is placed in a cylindric receptacle on the table - a bit basic perhaps, but fine for this type of eatery. The staff were friendly, service with a smile. The pints were fine, no guest ales available, but still entirely satisfactory if you come primarily for a meal. The rest of the pub looked cosy, including some leather sofas and armchairs. I'd recommend going earlier in the day rather than later, as the place can fill up, especially at the weekends. We once came on a Saturday evening, and found it was very busy indeed. Otherwise a very good place if you want a traditional pub meal for excellent value!
Windmill – AudenshawMy friends and I went to Yakisoba a couple of weeks ago and had a fantastic meal. Really good food and fantastic service all at really good prices.
Yakisoba – ChorltonFive members of Cheshire Curry Club visited Akbars last Thursday. We had heard so many good reports that we had to try it for ourselves! We were not disappointed! We got in at 7.30pm and only had to wait 15 minutes for a table which was not a problem because there is a large well furnished section where you can have a relaxing drink before having your meal. Our party of five ordered poppadums, mixed starters for five and our main courses were the seafood special, Chicken Makhani, Lamb Bhuna, Kahrai Chicken and Lamb Ghost. We also ordered a nan bread which was bigger than a tennis racquet! The food was prepared to a very high standard and the waiter who dealt with our order was friendly and knowledgeable. Also with ample staff you don't have to wait long between courses. The total bill which included two rounds of drinks as well as Brandy and coffee came to £102. A veritable feast for just over £20 a head. The restaurant is also furnished to a very high standard and all in all we gave it 9 out of 10 which is very high for our membership. In fact it is the highest we have ever rated any of the restaurants we have visited. To give you some idea we rated the Masala Lounge in Sale 8/10, the Gatley Tandoori 8/10 and the Original Third Eye in Didsbury 8/10. Some restaurants have rated less than 5 so to rate Akbars so highly gives you an idea of how impressed we were! Thank you Akbar for a lovely evening!
Akbars – Manchester City CentreExcellent food. Friendly and efficient service. Always a pleasure to visit!!
Little Yang Sing – Manchester City CentreDisappointing to say the least. Difficult to find cheese free options. One main course was to spicy, even for this chilli lover, with no aromatic notes to save it. My starter was tasteless, main course uninspired. Even the cream served with one pudding was on the turn. Not good. And to make matters worse on our tables was a flyer for the Xmas menu. Advertised as available on the date we visited at the time we visited was identical to the menu we were handed but significantly cheaper. Seriously unimpressed.
Greens – DidsburyHad a gorgeous meal at Pacifica Cantonese last night, good service, lovely decor. Everything was great. Only problem extremely noisy couldn't here ourselves speak.
Pacifica Cantonese – EcclesWe have been for a meal tonight with our 2 children ages 11 and 7, we had an awful Christmas so decided to have a treat, me and my husband go a lot especially at lunch time and I have to say it did not disappoint, the food was fantastic. The mushrooms are wonderful, the pork Diane was delicious and my children loved it. The atmosphere is relaxed and lisa the owner is great, welcoming and has a very infectious laugh. The only down side is that we have all come out absolutely stuffed! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food. Just wish it was bigger but then would it loose its charm? Great Night!
The Old Bill – OldhamI would recommend the Happy Seasons in china town any day, Me and my boyfriend about 3 times a month, the crispy pork and char sui are the best we've ever tasted, the price is excellent and we've paid no more than £20 which includes drinks!
Happy Seasons Chinese Restaurant – Manchester City CentreHad a wonderful meal at Azzurro on New Years Eve, menu was amazing, great atmosphere and service as always. I could honestly say that I must have had the best dish in my life. It was slow cooked Rabbit "agro dolce" served with fresh tagliatelle. This is now definitely my favourite restaurant in Manchester.
Azzurro Restaurant – DidsburyI have eaten here many times the food is always excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. There is a good selection on the menu and it is not expensive. Very good choice
Sunar Gaw Balti Cuisine – BoltonThe decor, ambience, atmosphere and Menu lean slightly more to general Mediterranean than pure Greek which I hadn’t quite expected but that was fine. I found it reassuringly (and surprisingly) unpretentious, decent no nonsense service, good tasty food, generous portions and good value. Ole
Dimitri’s Tapas Bar Taverna – Manchester City CentreExcellent takeaway. Everything is fresh. Best Chicken roast and kulfi that I have ever eaten!
Shaygan Halal Takeaway – RusholmeI have been going to the cafe Lahore since it first opened and it is first class. I am a veggie and the dishes they serve are lovely. A.J always recommends different dishes for me to try and he has never been wrong. I love the atmosphere of the place - good to chill out and chat with friends - take your own booze and no loud banging music that can often spoil a good meal. Wazim is a very nice chap and always makes us feel very welcome - try it - i know you will like it !
Cafe Lahore – OldhamAn absolutely superb dining experience. The staff are incredibly friendly and there is a wonderful homely atmosphere. The food is sublime and caters for every taste. This little gem is well worth the visit.
Stables Restaurant – HydeI went here on Saturday as a group of 4 girls. It was one of the best meals I have ever had and the service was excellent. The waiters couldn't do enough for you and to be honest I was expecting the bill to be more than what it was which was a nice pleasant surprise. Between the 4 of us not one of us had a bad word to say, we all picked something different from the menu and it was all perfect.
The Grill On the Alley – Manchester City CentreWOW! This place is seriously cool. Went just before Christmas and I was very impressed. The food is fantastic. The staff are friendly and the service superb. I'm going back again at the end of Jan. This is THE place to go in 2008. Make the effort to get there and you won't regret it. It's only a few minutes drive out of the city centre.
