Great pub, nice food, nice staff - just right for a bite to eat and a quiet drink.
High Grove Hotel – CheadleThe Ox has a current menu firmly in the "modern british" style. My partner had a starter of crab cakes (spicy), followed by a good rib-eye steak. I had black pudding, on a potato & apple rosti, followed by pork chop with roast vegetable couscous. All excellent. Being greedy, we had side orders of fine beans and a really good rocket & parmesan sald. It meant we were too full for desserts, but managed coffee. Service was excellent throughout. It was great to have such quality food in this relaxed environment. Bill, including drinks was just short of £60, which we felt was good value.
The Oxnoble – Manchester City CentreBeen several times, but never anyone else in the restaurant at lunch time. One bad experience with mussels but generally food excellent, though expensive for the place. Bar food better value, and just as nice, with more punters to give a better atmosphere.
Bluu – Northern QuarterBeen meaning to try Grinch out for a long while, finally did so last night & wasnt disapointed. Had the Pollo Rosso pizza, which had to be the tastiest i've ever experienced. Much better value than other pizza providers in the city. Also really impressed with the range of cocktails!!!
Mud Crab at Grinch – Manchester City CentreIf you like to taste your food, then this is the place to go. Turkish food at its best.
Cafe Istanbul – Manchester City CentreTasty food, miserable waiters. Drinks prices not too bad.
Eastern Eye Tandoori – Ramsbottom9 of us went for lunch. We had a good time. The food was very nice. The House chutneys were excellent. Starters were particularly nice. The main courses were also very good as was the ice cream dessert. Everyone had a very pleasant time.
Cafe Lahore – OldhamBest chinese food I have had. Great value, brilliant assortment of food, definitely rate the buffet. My 7 year old loves going.
Top Wok – BramhallThe Rudyard is part of the "Innkeepers lodge" Toby carvery group. It has recently been re-furbished. The dull dingy atmosphere has gone, the place is now pastel colours. Watch out for the "risque" postcards on the wall. The "Carvery" is now available between 12.-5.00pm Mon-Sat at £4.99,excellent value for money. Choice of Gammon,Turkey,Beef in Guinnness pie, Roast rib of beef, accompanied by the self service selection of broccoli, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, carrots, roast parsnip, yorkshire pud. The only restriction is how much you can fit on a plate. Choice of 6 starters £3.25 to £1.99. The summer salad deal is £6.45,gammon &honey mustard with free glass of wine. Various other selections, see the menu. Kids menu available, high chairs for th kids. Bottle of Argentinian red,£7.95 quite good aswell. Update has certainly made this establishment a lot better.
Miller & Carter – StockportIf you want something a little different, try this. The Nepalese dishes are fantastic and not too spicy. The starters are excellent and the prices are very good. A very warm welcome from the owners, who seem geniunely glad to serve you. Very, cheap too. I think this is the best restaurant in Stockport. Try it!
Kantipur – StockportVery good.
Harvey’s Cafe Bar – BoltonReally excellent food and chilled out atmosphere. Portions were generous, and although not cheap the prices are fair considering the standard of food. Only down side is the service - on our visit, there was one excellent waitress who was cheery and courteous, her colleague however was rather sullen and had to be reminded of the drinks order a couple of times before they arrived. Overall though a big thumbs up!!
Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyTop food - similar sized portions when you take away.
Cherry Tree – HaleAte here recently on a friday night, early doors without a booking, but they were fully booked for later on. Cauliflower soup to start, very nice indeed, not overseasoned like I've had elsewhere. Main of line caught sea bass fillet, pan fried. Very nicely cooked , caramalised skin, not overdone. Full of flavour (not always the case with bass.) Service was attentive and informative, although we did have one of the managers as our waiter, so would expect that level of knowledge! Plenty of staff polishing glasses and plates so it all bodes well for the future. I'll definitely be going back.
Bluu – Northern QuarterJudging by how busy the place was early on a Tuesday evening, it must be something special! Very good value considering the high standard of cooking and service. Portion sizes are hefty as well, so don't order sides dishes unless feeling very greedy. Reccommended to me by a friend, and fussy me is inclined to agree it's a bit of a gem!!
Smiths Restaurant – EcclesThis is a "Henrys table" establishment. Next door to a travelodge. Plenty of parking space, large restaurant area. Can get busy especially on Sundays, booking may be your best bet. 3 rooms to have a drink prior to sitting down. Nothing out of the ordinary in the beer line. Usually well cooked and presented but can suffer periodically from "Change of Chef" syndrome.
Old Rectory, The – StockportI went to celebrate my husbands birthday with some friends. The service was excellent, atmosphere was great and when they knew it was a celebration that was going on, they played Happy Birthday or Congratulations to that table.
Frankie and Bennys – Ashton Under Lynevery good restaurant. dined here a few times. banquet offers great choice and good to share. still haven't got round to ordering a la carte as banquet is too good!! food id very tasty and filling. good presentation of food and nice chopsticks and plates! we always leave with a smile on our faces.
