We were visiting the Lake District for a few days and staying in Penrith. We went here for dinner on our second night and we was not disappointed. It was a Sunday evening so wasn’t very busy but we still got a warm welcome from the staff and owner. I asked the waitress for recommendations as I couldn’t choose from all the great options. She recommended the soufflé for starter and lamb for main and that is what I went with. My husband had the fish starter and the duck for main. The food was absolutely amazing and the portions were really good too. We also got some lovely bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start. I had the rhubarb and ginger crumble for dessert. Amazing! The waitress came over and chatted with us quite a bit asking where we had visited and where we had eaten etc. she gave us some ideas for where to go. It was a lovely evening and would highly recommend.

Had tea there last night and was really good. We all ordered the pies which were amazing. The customer service was great too. I would definately recommend.

We've been returning to this lovely restaurant for a few years now. It never fails to impress.. From Heather delivering the friendly informed service, to the excellent food... The menu is not very large, but it is a small venue, BUT.. We have never been disappointed with the quality of everything.. Would definitely recommend to anyone to visit..

First time here. Lovely friendly waitress. Meal was amazing, really good variety on menu. Will definitely return and recommend to everyone.

6 of us went for Sunday lunch.3 had lamb and 2 beef and we all thought our meals were excellent. Thw other person had fish and chips which rated the best she had ever had. Although we were all full, we could not resist the desert menu. 5 of us had the .mascapone and rubharb with cinder toffee, flapjack and ice crea., absolutely delicious and the other one had the pofiterole, again superb. This pub is highly recommended

Had another excellent meal at Grants of Castlegate on Friday. Lovely food, drinks and wine. Friendly and helpful service.

A friend recommended visiting and am so glad we visited. Lovely old pub building with cosy bar and dining area with gorgeous views. Good rang of menu options (incl gluten free options) - classics plus seasonal (I had wild garlic pea soup starter - super tasty!) Staff were really friendly as well as efficient and thoughful.

The leg of lamb was really great and tender. Also the stuff and the chef were so nice. They still cooked for me even though I arrived after the last order. I just finished a trail running race near Keswick on a really tough, windy and cold day and badly needed a warm delicious meal and they were there to offer me the dinner

Went here for Sunday dinner at Easter. Food and staff were fabulous. Food was delicious.

Excellent food at reasonable prices.good range of beers always interesting loved my red mullet starter and liver . Unusual options On the special s cooked exquisitely. Will be back again soon . Great service

Had dinner with friends on Saturday Night. Great selection of dishes and the food was fantastic when it arrived, well presented, hot and tasty. Good selection of wines, you could either choose your own or pick from the pared wines which i thought was a nice touch. Staff very friendly and attentive.

Sorry to say and I love to support local businesses but we went for Sunday lunch and the meal was terrible.There was five of us and all five thought our meals were appalling.My roast chicken was neither a breast or a leg and I feel it had been deeep fried as it was crispy. Sorry to say I won’t be going back.

Absolutely gorgeous food

Food was excellent I had the salmon cooked to perfection. My husband had the chicken supreme with a black pudding hash brown something different. Staff are for attentive nothings was too much bother . Well with a visit .
