Latest Restaurant Review:India Garden, Erdington

"Went to have meal for 4 sat by the bar as could jus hear noisy kitchen was greeted by this weird obnoxious bearded fellow who was over friendly and generally brown nosing was so patronizing and obvious. As we sat on our tables i noticed the grime build up along the skirting boards and thick layer of dust stuck to the radiators on closer inspection looking around the place looked so dated and worn out. the bearded waited then interrupted again talking about some weird topic and asking us if we wanted drinks and popadums we ordered a pint of cobra and pint of carlsberg and the 2 ladies accompanying us ordered the house red wine and a glass of coke. poppadums then arrived swiftly by another waiter with very poor English again tryin to bring up another conversation about some weird event then laughing to himself at his own apparent joke. as the restaurant had few other tables there seemed to be only 2 waiters and the noise of the phone constantly ringing became irritating and annoying i was looking to order starters as by now they had both disappeared. the table we sat on had a good view of the bar when one of the waiters returned i asked where our drinks where we then watched him go to the bar but the phone rang again when he hung up and im sure he thought we wasnt watching i noticed from the reflection of the mirror he turned his back to us and we could clearly hear him opening a can of something then he crouched down bent over turned around and produced a pint of cobra i then nudged my friend who was having a convo with his wife as i thought this was very odd as i could clearly see 2 draft taps on the bra one for cobra beer and the other for carlsberg lager the bearded waiter didn't notice us watching him he then turned around once more i heard another crack of a can opening he then turned to face the bar but this time i sort of sat up from my chair to get better look and to my shock horror i could clearly see his reflection on the mirror him opening a can of some silver coloured cheap bear looked like a supermarket excelsior lager can and poor it into a carlsberg glass i couldnt beileve my eyes he then noticed us glancing over and proceeded to place the near full pints of both lagers under the appropriate lager taps and gave it a quick squirt of the genuine lagers this produced a head but clearly he was still short on one of the pints so to our shock and horror he took the over flow basin from under the lager taps and emptied into one of the pint glasses as this was going on another waiter who seemed very moody this time came over with the poppadums and sauce trays having watched this spectacle i gave the sauces a once over chilli mango mint sauce green chilli and lime pickle as i turned them over with spoon i noticed clumps in the lime green chilli of dry bits as if they had been put back in the jars each night and bought out to serve again time and time again the poppadums were brown indicating the oil had not been chaged regurlaly. the bearded waiter had now come over placed drinks and disappeared into the kitchen the moody waiter who when talking to him went on to tell his life story about how he was from spain etc boring us with the details he then took our order but by now we really wanted to make a qucik exit we ordered few tandoori dishes and a chicken and one meat balti dish with nan bread and rice no starters as we really wanted to eat and go 30 mins later our food arrived on what i can only describe as a food trolley that looked so battered and dirty worn out that i honestly suspect they had found it at bottom of a canal it was so disgusting they even didnt seem bothered as no attepmt was made to hide the worn out torn stained lino on the top and flaky paint varnish all around the surfaces , worse was yet to come as he preceeded to place a even more worn out stained sticky portable food warmer which he placed the sizzler on top of. the food wasnt that bad in all honesty and tasted fresh we promptly ate our food as qucik as we could to literally get out i then half way as one of the ladies did went to use the toilets i was in for another shock the smell of stale urine and the dirty sticky matts leading to the entrance i didnt know whether to hold my nose using the stand up urinal or hold my you know what it was smelling so bad clearly they had never seen the site of any detergent or bleach for poss last few months and the floor was so sticky my feet alomst left my loafers as they seemed to be getting glued to the floor when i arrived back at the table the look on my mates wife after she visited the ladies said it all. after we finished our meal we couldnt sit there any longer and walked to the bar to pay for our bill when we had another disgusting surprise when we looked at the electric kettle that was on the boil it had changed colour to cream magnolia when clearly it use to be white and was stuck together all round with sellotape we paid our bill and as the 2 ladies kept nudging us not to cause a scene we didnt mention the incident about the lagers as there were other customers around and to be honest we was not in the mood for a confrontation and didnt want to upset our partners we just needed to get out for some fresh air whilst still being in a good mood. i have dealt with this matter by reporting making a compaint to trading standards regarding the fraudulant cheap excellsior lager being sold as cobra and carlsberg cheekily being served on cobra and carlsberg lager glasses and have logged a formal complaint to the local health and hygiene inspector and will like as many potential or existing customers to read this review warning and not to be sold short or conned by this establishment who i have now come to learn has been trading for 30 years and is still under the same management hands so you would think they are not short of a few bob these guys are con men beware dont be fooled won over by there charm brown nosing and fall for there weird topics take heed people potential customers there are plenty more restaurants in erdington honest ones. and India garden if you are reading this message i am a retired hospitality area manager for over 50 bars pubs hotels and leisure facilities it was my job to root this sort of behavior out of our establishments so even though i am retired i had done that job for over 40 years old habits die hard and give up the act and sell to people what they pay for."
