One of the best restaurants in South Wales. Excellent food and service and a choice of menus for any budget.
Abercrave Inn – SwanseaDo not eat here... lackless, mindless, over priced shit
Salt at the George – SwanseaI have been looking for years for a restaurant that serves better vegetarian food than I can cook at home. And I think I've found it at Canteen on Clifton Street. We've now eaten there twice in the evening, and last night being Burns night they served veggie Haggis with neeps, tatties and braised red cabbage which was delicious. But it was exceeded by my pannetone bread pudding with white chocolate sauce, the best pudding ever! If you are searching for good vegetarian, give them a try, they even cook lovely meat dishes according to my partner. But you may have to book as they seem to be very busy.
Canteen on Clifton Street – CardiffA friendly atmospheric pub with good choice of food, and service. I like their laid back approach, and the log fires.
Plough and Harrow – CowbridgeThis pub has everything you could want in a pub. It has excellent food, a nice pint, a warm and friendly atmosphere, lovely landlords, and a big, safe beer garden for the kids to play on those lovely sunny afternoons.
Castle Inn, The – BlackwoodHave just moved to area and find the Jaflon one of the best Indian Restaurants I have been too. Food is excellent with a good variety and some very fine chefs specials. Service is outstanding. Give them a go if you find yourself hungry in Penarth, you wont be sorry
Jaflon – PenarthWe found the Castle Kitchen by accident, looking for a cuppa when visiting the Castle. We went back for lunch, and have continued to revisit each time we holiday in Pembrokeshire. It's a quiet and restful place to eat, with food and service that I simply haven't experienced anywhere else. Pat and Mary Browne do everything wonderfully, and share it with you calmly but confidently. They know how good their food is! It's a privilege to eat there: the menu is small, but everything on it is worth the time and money. There are more expensive restaurants, and places where the staff rush and bustle. You are welcome: I'll go to Cilgerran!
Castle Kitchen, The – CardiganWe arrived at the restaurant to find there were problems in the kitchen. Food eventually arrived, starters were nice, then came the disasters. I ordered sirloin steak medium/well with chips, what arrived was a piece of charcoal and after waiting for 5 minutes and no chips -I approached a waitress who told me the fryer was not working but I could have boiled, sauted or jacket potatoes. I sent the steak back and asked for sirloin med/well with a jacket potato. What I got was a rare steak and after waiting another 5 minutes I was told that jacket potatoes were finished but I could have sauted or boiled. Having told them to stick their potatoes, I was rewarded with a jacket potato. In the meantime my steak was cold, nearly raw and fatty with gristle. Needless to say, I did not eat my meal and after chatting to the people on the next table, I found that she had ordered a rare steak and was cooked med/well. If they can't get the orders right on a quiet night - heaven help anybody who fancies going on a busy night. The fish by all accounts was edible.
Market Place – CowbridgeI've been to this beautiful pub three times and never been disappointed. The food is amazing, I've not heard a single complaint from anyone whenever we've eaten there. The specials are always fantastic, the service is great and the pub itself has such character - low ceilings and log burning fires. Great selection of beers, ales and wines. Highly recommended. They don't accept table reservations though so you need to get there early as it gets really busy!!
Maenllwyd Inn – CaerphillyHad at meal at the carne arms last week. Good service, very attentive and friendly. A warm cosy atmosphere with the open fires in the bar and the restaurant. The food is fab. i had the seabass with a stunning spinach feta salad and my dad has the liver. A surprising range of meals to chose from, from sausage and mash to more exotic dishes like pheasant and pork tenderloin. The wine list has a nice range too and the waitress recommended us a bottle from the specials which we enjoyed for a reasonable price. would recommend this good quality old country pub to anyone.
The Carne Arms – CowbridgeThe pantmawr is serving food again and its great! 2 meals for £7.99!
Pantmawr Inn – CardiffWe went to this restaurant recently and were hugely disappointed with the ingredients, cooking and service. We had high hopes that this would make for a nice, local Italian but it was anything but. We will definitely not be returning.
La Trattoria – PontyclunTruly excellent restaurant with very high standards of authentic Indian cuisine and service. My husband and i have tried many Indian Restaurants around Cardiff and Spice is by far the best ! Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and service always makes it a lovely place to dine and spend the evening . Highly recommended !
Spice Island – CardiffI went for a meal with my family on 4/1/08 the door leading to the dining area was locked so we had to walk through behind the bar,the one toilet was dirty and smelly, the table was dirty and sticky! my 12 year old son had pizza it looked like it had been microwaved, all hard and horrible! my 9 year olds son of chicken nuggets and chips was ok my husband had scampi which was average, i had chicken tikka with rice and chips it was all dry and revolting! there was one person behind the bar but she was too busy chatting to serve us drinks, we waited to be offered dessert for nearly 30 mins to no avail, we then decided to leave (via walking behind the bar again)we received harsh looks from the bar person for daring to disturb her chat to pay the bill. I will definitely not be returning to this unfriendly dirty smelly pub.
Cross Inn, The – TenbyDo not even think about eating here. It's not a restaurant, just a run down drinkers pub.
Castle Inn, The – LlanelliVisited for lunch on 5 Jan 2008. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Excellent menu, ranging from imaginatively prepared pub lunches to beautifully presented cordon bleu-level dishes. Alert, patient and helpful (but not intrusive) waiter/waitress service. Reasonable prices and plenty of parking. All the staff know and like what they're doing, and it shows. Highly recommended.
Halfway Inn, The – CarmarthenThe gallery is a lovely little place and the staff take great care in cooking the diverse ingredients they use, it doubles up as a bar downstairs where they serve lovely cocktails. It has served as a marker for the area as more and more restaurants are investing down broad street, Its turning int obarry's own little restaurant quarter
Gallery Restaurant Bar and Exhibition Space – BarryWe've been going to Pepe's El Paso restaurant for some years now, and love it! The atmosphere is tremendous, Pepe himself is a bundle of laughs, the food is exquisite, and we even take our grandkids there! Nothing is ever too much trouble. Way to go, Pepe!
