A very good meal, tasty, well cooked and well presented. Minor point was a little too much salt in the creamy mash for my palate. Atmosphere is pleasant but touch Spartan. However, excellent value and we will return.

Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithAwesome food, friendly, fast service, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Stephen even gave us a lift home as we were the last customers, as he was passing our hotel on his way home. We would definitely recommend. Thank you Darren & Kathryn
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithSorry. Am a good cook myself. My chicken was reasonable. The belly pork meal pretty awful. Staff did their best. Very pushed due to lack of help. Didnt think the quality merited the price paid. As an aside. The broccoli wasnt cooked at all and couldnt cut it. No offence to anyone. They were busy and pleasant.
The Wheatsheaf Inn – KendalI had cod fish and found it to be overcooked and dry. We were also put in the conservatory part of the restaurant which both my husband and I felt there was no atmosphere and rather chilly. In other words we were ‘out on a limb’ with service rather slow.
The Wheatsheaf Inn – KendalStayed for 1 night after revisiting my childhood driving around some of the lakes, this suited me, room was very nice, food both PM and the breakfast was very nice, staff very friendly, very much recommend and and come stay again
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithReally nice food I had the Fillet Steak and my wife had the pork both where very good. The restaurant just lacks a bit of ambience but staff and food excellent.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithWe booked to come on Saturday evening, table of 4. As soon as we walked in, the pub just felt gorgeous, homely, cosy and lovely. Staff could not be anymore attentive. I had the Venison which was to die for. Everyone else’s dinner was amazing too. Absolute 10/10 and will be back without a doubt.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickLovely pub, friendly staff and locals. Food very nice. Would recommend
Greyhound Inn Cotehill – CarlisleDined on Monday7th October 2024, my third time at the Pheasant. Foo as always superb value , varied menu to include all tastes and restrictions. Service was exceptional, attentive yet not imposing and the food arrived in perfect time. Always a generous portion and the extra vegetables cooked to perfection
Pheasant Inn – KeswickHad a most enjoyable meal whilst on holiday in Thornthwaite in early October. I had prawn and smoked salmon, with a horseradish sauce. A very fresh and clean taste with a nice tang from the sauce. I had the pheasant and black pudding main course and my partner the scampi. Pheasant was particularly impressive - very unctuous. Followed by a shared lemon posset. They were aksos erving an excellent guest beer - appropriately the Pheasant golden ale from a Warrington brewery.
Pheasant Inn – KeswickMy wife and I came for Sunday lunch,I had the half roast chicken with an extra yorkshire pudding and also pigs in blankets. My wife had the nut roast and a portion of the cauliflower cheese and both of us it was a fantastic meal, the only negative was the amount of roast potatoes on each plate (2) other than that it was faultless.Very friendly staff and very cosy, we will definitely be back!!!
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeWe have been for both lunch and Sunday roasts, and both were delicious. Really flavoursome food and a cosy, quirky vibe! I would love the roasts to be slightly bigger, as my only feedback. Lots of meat but I love lots of roast potatoes, even if you could buy extra as a side. I would highly recommend the spicy sausage rolls too!
Farmers Arms – UlverstonIt was a lovely meal We toured the whole isle from the comfort of our table The wine paring was amazing and the staff friendly and attentive
The Wheatsheaf at Beetham – MilnthorpeDo not go here Booked a table for a friend Wedding Anniversary, for Sunday 6th October @7.00pm Turned up at 6.45pm to see a note in the door stating Kitchen is closed. Barman who was rude and said I have just come on shift but you had a phone call to say it was cancelled. Why would I turn up if the booking had been cancellled? So thanks for a completely ruined evening. Now they send me an email asking how my meal was. Complete joke of a company. Avoid at all costs.
Hope and Anchor – Grange-over-SandsWhat a superb place. Great food and service, a very interesting historical building. The bar staff were excellent and engaged with us. The pottery and workshop were a very valuable addition. Would thoroughly recommend.
Farmers Arms – UlverstonOur meal at Grants of Castlegate was a special end to a memorable day. I had proposed to my girlfriend - now fiancé, phew - earlier in the day. I had emailed Grants the night before and asked that they mark the engagement in some way. When they brought the desserts out, “Congratulations!” was written in sauce on each plate. It was a lovely touch that went down very very well with my fiancé, so a massive thank you to the team. Better than that was the food though, it was beautiful.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithA delicious Sunday Lunch, despite having to wait over 45 minutes for our food. To be fair, one of the team did come to see us after half an hour to explain the problem in the kitchen.
