Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessVisited twice during half term and our children were warmly welcomed by the owner offering them toys to play with which helped us all relax and enjoy the enormous slices of cake and welcome drinks. Would recommend and will be back. :)
Brambles Coffee Bar – WindermereWe went for Sunday lunch with some friends. Great location, great atmosphere with log fires and lovely food. Will be back again soon.
Queens Head Hotel – Windermere15 October 2011 found us in Millom celebrating and sharing our enjoyment of Millom poet Norman Nicholson with the NN Society. Serendipity on full beam delivered us to the Square at Broughton for the first time ever. The lights were on at Beswicks - and after a little wait - there was definitely 'someone in' - and a table for us too. We found ourselves, once again, in the same day, celebrating and sharing our new found enjoyment of Beswicks. There is not enough space here to say what a fabulous experience we both enjoyed and shared. Let's just say then that if there were boxes to tick for everything we used and experienced, whether physical, visual, auditory or kinesetic they would all be ticked. Thanks David and your Staff. We appreciated all the things that you have in your immense treasure chest right up to the decor.
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessOne of the best restaurants in the Lakes.
Cedar Manor – WindermereI like this place overall. However the down sides are that it lacks soul and the rooms are overpriced for what they are. It's situated near Penrith and the refurbishment of the pub was a big one. It has the modern/rustic feel that the new generation of pubcos have. Unique in the area but becoming formulaic now. The menu is small and tight with most bases covered and we enjoyed our food. The service was professional and friendly too. We didnt like the rooms particularly. They were small and soulless. The top room was £145 and represented the worst value of our 4 day trip around the lakes. The George and Dragon is owned by the Lowther family and you would have thought that would get you free entry into the castke nearby, rather than the £5 entry fee. The whole vibe was very much a business rather than a homely labour of love. In short I would eat there however there are many better places to stay nearby and in much better locations.
George and Dragon – PenrithVisited Brambles on Tuesday, what a wonderful place. We had our dog with us but were made very welcome to go inside. Lovely selection of teas, coffees, cakes etc. all home made. Amanda you deserve all the success, welcoming, friendly, comfortable. Well done, hope to visit again soon.
Brambles Coffee Bar – WindermereIf you want a tasty topping on what appears to be a base cut out of 1/4in plywood then this is the place for you. One of the worst pizzas I've ever had. Other diners seemed to be having trouble cutting bite sized pieces off theirs. You should be able to take a sector, fold it and eat it without cutlery (as in Italy).
Woodstone Pizza & Flame Grill – KeswickStumbled upon this amazing little enclave. We enjoyed posh sarnies and cake at the tea shop. A walk and swim in the river. A historical tour of the old priory. And we would have stayed in the B and B if we hadn't already found one.
Lanercost Tea Room – BramptonMy last visit to Ali Taj, literally, was some 5 weeks ago The restaurant is looking very tired and in much need of both a good clean and decoration. The service has deteriorated so much since my previous visits it was quite remarkable. The waiter literally dropped the cutlery and 2 minuscule paper napkins on the table for us to lay ourselves. There was a great sense of "eat up and get out" as if we were being hurried to release the table for the next customer. A very disappointing experience indeed, I will not be going back.
Ali Taj Restaurant – WhitehavenStopped there by chance on a Saturday evening, all tables booked but two so we got there in time (before 7pm). The food was fantastic, I was delighted to see the Specials Board menu was full of game dishes (pheasant, game pie, venison steaks, etc). The staff were very pleasant and cheerful. Will definitely try and come back there when we are in the lakes again! I noticed they also had a good choice of vegetarian dishes.
Farmers Arms – UlverstonWent in last night, place was very busy and the food was absolutely amazing!!! Highly recommend to anyone. Equally, the staff and atmosphere were second to none... Just what kendal has been needing keep up the good work!!!!
Istanbull Bar & Grill – KendalFantails oozes real olde worlde charm. An ancient building packed with interesting artefacts and nooks and cranies. The food was first class as you would expect from a place that has been going 18 years in the same hands. Hearty British food in a very welcoming environment. A must if in Carlisle area.
Fantails Restaurant – CarlisleGreat coffee and scones here in the middle of a castle!
Fusion Cafe – PenrithSuperior Deli restaurant. Nipped in for a bite for lunch and was surprised at the quality. I don't come across gourmet Greek restaurants on my travels in this country. They all seem a bit of a novelty, playing on the Brits just back from their hols mentality. Alexandros is a serious venue that seems to take great care in what it produces and serves. Friendly helpful lady served too.
Alexandros – CarlisleAwesome cafe, I loved it. 5 stars and would go again soon. High quality food and friendly staff.
Bluebird Cafe – ConistonWe have just stayed for 3 nights and could not praise the food more highly. Fantastic menu , really wonderful choices and all very interesting. A superb restaurant and a great place to stay. V good service etc FANTASTIC
Cottage in the Wood – KeswickWhat can I say about Beswicks, Simply one of best places to dine its more than just the meals that are available and the quality its the all round experience which is second to none form when you enter to when you come to leave, which is why i for one go back year after year.
