Beehive The – CarlisleA lovely find, tucked away slightly off the main street, but well signed. There's a wide range of freshly cooked food through the day, and a wonderful selection of cakes. The prices are very reasonable ... 'mortgages are for homes not cakes', they told me. AND there is a gluten-free menu that's nearly a long as the regular one ... most of their cakes, some pastries, pizzas etc all gluten free, and at regular, non inflated prices
Taste Of Eden – ApplebyMy wife and I have eaten here on a number of occasions and never been disappointed. It has varied and reasonably priced menu and the food is always excellent. Efficient and friendly service combined with a unique location make this a very enjoyable experience
Kingfisher Restaurant – MilnthorpeI'm sorry to have to write this but my wife and I had a meal at the Anglers Arms Haverthwaite on Friday 21st August and it was absolutely disgusting. The starter was a minuscule portion and very bland. The main course is probably the most bland stodgy and nondescript meal I have eaten since my school dinner days. To add insult, the manager offered us a ten percent discount off our meal.A dreadful experience we will never go back again
Anglers Arms – UlverstonSTAY AWAY FROM THIS B&B!!! BE ADVISED!!! Had reservations for this establishment and was shocked by the level of filth and service. Entered after doing the C2C walk and was immediately overcome by the total filth from floor to ceiling, horrible smell similar to sewage, and total unkempt appearance. Met another couple on the walk that had stayed there and mentioned bed bugs in the rooms. Employees were incredibly rude and hostile and pub filled with hooligans. I have seen cleaner surroundings in sheep pens. Immediately cancelled reservations and stayed at the Black Bull which was spotless and excellent service. BE ADVISED
Croglin Castle Hotel – Kirkby StephenIf you only eat at one place when you are in ambleside it must be Lucy's..We go up to Ambleside twice a year and Lucy's is always a definate for us. From reading the menu to paying its always been an enjoyable experience.. The menu is a excellent choice of food..Starters are a plenty ...Main Courses make your mouth water and the puddings (if you can manage one) are wonderful If you get the pleasure of meeting Lucy it's a pleasure..She is lovely and has always made us feel really welcome
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideWhat a dreadful place. Our table was never cleared, and when mentioned to the barman who asked if anything was OK he reacted like Basil Faulty and claimed it was my fault and walked away!! I will not be going there again and would advised others not to bother unless they like sloopy service and rude staff.
Ratty Arms – HolmrookI have been twice for a meal while on holiday in the last 2 months. Both times we waited at least 20minutes for someone to take our order and in the end had to ask.On 14th August 7 of us went for lunch. It can only be described as average or below and when we asked for a sweet menu at 2.15pm we were told they closed at 3pm so we didn't bother. Can't recommend it and will not go again.
Oily’s – WorkingtonFantastic food good value but I would recommend booking
Oddfellows Arms – WigtonA varied rotating selection of daily specials complements the standard bill of fare. Flexible and helpful with people with allergies.
Waterside Cafe – KendalExcellent Thai food - we have eaten here many times since it opened. Mixed starter is great, the gai rad prik is an excellent main as is the golden curry. Nice ambience, good service.
Star Of Siam – KeswickMy husband and I arrived at the George & Dragon on Sunday (August 9) at 2.10pm for Sunday lunch. The board outside stated that lunch was served until 2.30pm, but, after waiting a couple of minutes for the receptionist to finish chatting with another member of staff, he informed us that we were, in fact, too late for lunch. I reminded him that their board said 2.30, but he simply said that we were too late! Very poor service!! Please change the board outside!!!
George and Dragon – PenrithWe were a family of 8 one being a 9 month old baby we were told we could not bring the pushchair in to the restaurant area, due to this it spoiled our meal as it was rushed so the baby could go to sleep in his pushchair. the steaks that were ordered were over done we were asked to cut into them before we ate them, the chef should have known if they were cooked it is his job as it was they were over cooked and not eaten. So although this says it is child friendly it is not baby friendly.
Ship Inn At Roose – Barrow-in-FurnessThis has recently changed hands and is trying to be a fish restaurant. We had fish and chips - home made chips at that, which is a rare treat in most pubs these days! The food was very good and very tasty. The only problem was that there wasn't enough of it; to be more precise, we had a small portion of battered fish with ten chips and a spoon of peas at £10.95. All four of us left feeling hungry, so a great disappointment to us all. To further our disappointment the land lady was unsympathetic in response to our feedback to a point where she suggested we leave and don't come back. She probably didn't realise we were locals, but then why should that be any excuse? Customer service is none existent here..expect it to be changing hands again soon!
Ship Inn – MilnthorpeWe live in town and have tried most restaurants, the New Moon is our favourite. Food and service great.
La Luna – KendalEnjoyed an excellent value weekend at the Wild Boar. The hotel was friendly and comfortable. The price was excellent at £59 per person per night inc a hearty breakfast. This also got me a deal on a great dinner of salmon and steak. Very impressed.
The Wild Boar Inn, Grill & Smokehouse – WindermereWe love this restaurant - its very relaxed and informal which is how Greek dining should be. The food is first class and I just wish we could go every week! Its always busy but that doesn't detract from the attention to detail and friendliness of the staff.
Alexandros – CarlisleVisited on Thurs 23 July and we were so impressed we returned the following evening. Prawns in tempura batter were the best ever, deep fried brie was light and tasty. The steaks (T-bone and fillet) were full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Not exactly cheap, but worth every penny they were so good. On the second night the stroganoff and the wild boar were also excellent. The service was attentive and charming. Wish we could have stayed in Ambleside longer to sample the whole menu. Not much to add, except that both meals we had were truly excellent, and we're thinking of returning to Ambleside in the future just on the strength of this restaurant.
