Lovely evening at Francines. We visited on the back of a recommendation and all of the food was fantastic. The service and atmosphere were great. Lovely touch to bring some canapes to start with and the panacotta was the best I've tasted outside Italy! Even the house wine was very good. Not cheap but very much worth it!

Superb, freshly prepared food. I had the full English ( not greasy at all ) and my wife had the home made soup. The children had ham and cheese toasties with lattice fries. Excellent value, good, clean premises. Will go again.

The Fish and Chips here are to die for. Beautiful fresh fish with nice chips and mushy peas. I called in here at 2.45pm asking what time they closed, 3pm said the barman, but it's not a problem, we will stay open and cook for you. Brilliant service and I shall be calling back each time I'm in Maryport.

What a place! Enjoyed a wonderful night at the castle. We chose our room , the Langdale. It was a real treat to have a real fire in our room as we went to sleep. Up in the morning for a fine breakfast followed by a game of tennis on the castle's picturesque court. Then a walk up to the "9 standards" after looking at the nearby ruins of Brough Castle.

Wonderful hotel with character. Beautiful views over Morcambe Bay. The thing I noticed was how immaculate the place was. The rooms are great value. Will be back.

I have stayed in the manor on a number of occasions and find the hotel to be exceptional value in the restaurant, and the quality and enjoyment of the food offered never fails in leaving me completely satisfied,

I ate there last Tuesday evening. There were eight of us at the table and the staff gave us a genuine warm welcome. The meals were of a high quality and quite ample portions and were well cooked. The service was very good and the time lapse between ordering and the meals arriving at the table was quicker than expected considering that the place was quite busy. As to whether I would go again, my wife has just booked for a party of seventeen for next Tuesday. I really enjoyed it.

the last time i went to this establishment I waited for one hour and twenty minutes for the main course to arrive and when it did one of the dishes was not what we ordered. Having sat down at 7.00pm and the time then being 8.50pm. I requested the bill and we left. They did not even offer any explanation/ apology for the disaster. It was my Wedding Anniversary and the debacle which they offered was totally unacceptable. As to whether I will go again "WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER".

Great Pub with rooms in the beautiful winster valley. We enjoyed our food and were well looked after. As was our dog, being brought his own bowl of water!

I am so surprised that there are no reader reviews for this truly exceptional pub/restaurant. Several newspaper reviews have been made and awards made. Me and my Wife found this place on sugarvine and went to the George and Dragon's excellent website with video and stopped off on the way up to Scotland a few weeks ago. The location is ideal for those travelling north or south on the M6 in cumbria, carlisle region. The ambience - stunning, truly tranquil with real fires in the pub and reception and in the restaurant. Several dogs were lazily sprawled in front of the fires, truly welcoming ambience. The staff - very well presented, welcoming and relaxed. They made conversation yet also respected your privacy. Food service was excellent. THE FOOD - What a treat. We selected Pauls Double baked cheese souffle and Pan Fried Mackerel Starter - both truly devine. The cheese souffle is the chef's signature dish, this is a very strong flavour and milk pudding like texture, so choose your main wisely following this starter. The main - we both had the most fabulous burger beautifully presented with salad garnish - Shorthorn Beef Burger from beef sourced form the estate nearby. You probably won't need side orders with the shorthorn burger - very filling and satisfying. We didn't go for dessert but promised ourselves we would be back for a full treat three courses and hopefully some wine next time. While there we were very patiently shown all the available accommodation - lovely accommodation in nice location. Staff were honest and stated which rooms would be affected by the noise of the extractor of the kitchen. Accommodation was over-priced for us, but probably worth it if you want a lovely weekend away with access to fabulous food and drink on site. Worth considering for a short break. TRY THIS PLACE - YOU WON'T REGRET IT - A GREAT STOP OFF FROM THE M6MOTORWAY

Super food and great service I have had worse in so called Michelin stared establishments. Our experience would have put it with best the Lakes can offer on a good day none of your Heston style cooking here though. Traditional style of service with us all sitting down at the same time and the set menu worked very well for us as it stopped me suffering from my usual menu envy when looking at my partners food. Recommended!

We made a spontaneous visit last week for a late lunch after we had visited the Beacon exhibition, whilst on holiday in the Lake District. There were no tables free but the lovely staff brought in one of the outside tables for us. The food was delicious. I had their homemade vegetable soup with a cheese scone (fresh, light and cheesy!); my husband had a made-to-order bacon and egg roll. The staff were only too happy to accommodate his desire for crispy bacon (and lashings of ketchup!). This was followed by caramel shortbread - the best I have ever had. We recommended the cafe to our friends who visited the next day with their 3 children. They were also suitably impressed. If we lived in the area we would definitely be regulars. This is a fantastic place!

What an amazing place to eat! My wife and I stumbled across this lovely looking building whilst looking for somewhere to have our evening meal. The best places often seem to be the tucked away ones, and The White House is such a hidden gem. We had no idea what to expect when we got there, and were immediately pleasantly surprised by the decor and relaxed vibe of the place. We were taken care of constantly from the moment we arrived with drinks offered, canopes brought and coats hanged up for us. And as for the food, well it was without doubt among the best we've ever tasted, cooked to perfection and brought swiftly. It was one of those memorable meals that you look back on for many years to come, positioned well above the average, mediocre and forgettable that seem to be so commonplace. The standard of service was brilliant too with us being tended to consistently throughout our time there. Our table was somewhat tucked away, and as a result in some restaurants we've sometimes felt forgotten about. That was not the case with The White House as we were made to feel very valued as customers from start to finish. We left with a very pleasant exchange with the warm and friendly staff, promising to put our comments on Sugarvine, and vowing to return. Well the Sugarvine comments are on, and now we're so much looking forward to doing the other bit, going back to this amazing hidden gem.

Enjoyed an excellent Ploughmans platter for lunch at this country pub. Would like to return at night and sample that menu too!

Overpriced even for the lake district.The coffee cup was a tiny teacup & only half full(£1.75! that's £3.50 for a full cup), the guy serving expecting you to fill up the other half with milk. Also the toasted teacake i was given (£1.95) was no bigger than a rich tea biscuit. Should have known when we entered, only one couple were in there & a man sitting down, He was the guy serving. When we left approx 7 mins later the place was deserted. We were both completely underwhelmed & still in need of sustenance & a caffeine kick. Not two minutes later we were outside a place called Greens which was almost full. We got the last table & had a proper teacake & the coffee was in a cafetiere with almost 3 cups in. There's too much competition in that area to think you can get away with taking advantage of people... We will never set foot in The Cumbria Cafe again.. Well done Greens for saving the day, What a fab place.
