There are few restaurants I have been to where I have been made to feel so welcome right off the bat. But Brontae's is one of them! Hospitality at its finest, followed by three stunning courses -- the smoked mackerel pâté (with pea tart and trimmings), the slow-braised Jacob's Ladder (melted in the mouth, no wonder it appears to be a firm favourite among regulars), and the Lemon Cello tart -- I couldn't fault them even if I wanted to. Whether you're local to Leeds or visiting from afar, this is the only restaurant you need to go to.

Very welcoming, fantastic food, generous portions. Great lunch choice, such a variety of food on the menu was unexpected. Went with the fish and chips not disapointed

Nice lunch,though,we were the only two in the restaurant.Sign of the times,I suppose! Started with oysters,which we enjoyed.Main,prawn linguine;prawns were cooked to perfection! Dessert,however,was off the scale! Never seen Pumpkin Pie on an English menu before! Tried it,and was blown away! Superb! The chef knew what he doing!

First visit , been meaning to do it for years,we were not disappointed It comes at a cost but ,you get what you pay for as they say, magpie medley and lobster thermidor plus a range of side dishes, marvellous Also tried the take away at the side during the day , excellent fish n chips, we will be back

My wife and I enjoyed an evening at Maxi’s Chinese restaurant. We were made welcome on arrival and shown to our table, The restaurant is authentic looking with a calm and relaxing atmosphere! The food was very enjoyable, large portions, well cooked and had great flavours. Always a pleasure to have a meal at the Magpie. Food cooked to perfection and was very accommodating.

My partner and I recently visited Whitby and visited on our first evening. We had such an excellent experience, we returned twice more during our short stay. The quality of the fish and seafood was excellent and it was perfectly cooked and presented. We had a different selection each evening, including traditional cod and chips, their sharing platter of chilled fish and seafood and the “Magpie Medley” of pan-fried halibut, salmon and King Prawns, accompanied by their own potato hash and an excellent creamy garlic sauce. My partner enjoyed Lindisfarne Oysters as a starter - once on ice with lemon wedges and Tabasco and once grilled with garlic butter and scally onions, whilst I had a tasty and excellent Whitby Crab Bisque. We accompanied our food with a very reasonable Pinot Grigio. The welcome we received was first rate (including one evening when various mishaps caused us to turn up 40 minutes early!). The service was both friendly and efficient, making us feel that we were truly valued customers. The restaurant was well patronised each time we were there - another witness to its excellent food and service. We will certainly return again when we are back in Whitby.
