La Casa Vieja – St.HelensThe pub stands all alone on a busy road and I was a little dubious about taking my Mum in for lunch. It was a little rundown inside but only added to its' charm. There was a surprisingly extensive and sophisticated menu. We both plumped for Scaborough cod in beer batter with maris piper chips, homemade mushy peas, samphire and lime tatare sauce. Absolutely fabulous! and very reasonably priced. I look forward to future visits to explore their menu.
The Baltic Fleet – Liverpool City CentreThis is the best curry i have ever had. The good quality of the ingredients was obvious and the fact it was freshly prepared evident. I always recommend Karma and those that have tried it always agree that it is far superior to any other. As a resident of west Kirby, i am made up it is on my doorstep!
Karma – West KirbyArrived for meal, very quiet and wondered why....! Sat down and no table numbers, which is a little confusing, although we were given wooden spoons with numbers on after ordering....?! OK....food...... Went to order - asked for sirloin steak - no sirloin steak, or rump or lamb...! Starters arrived, which were ok. Main courses - fish and chips arrived - ate chips, fish was left as it was incredibly greasy and riddled with bones. Also, half of the veggie option of butternut squash was left as it wasn't the best. All in all, not a very good experience and one I wouldn't like to repeat.
Punch Bowl – WaterlooI visited here with a party of 6 for my Mothers birthday recently and was thoroughly impressed. Not being the biggest fan of Indian food, I was apprehensive, but that soon disappeared when I sampled my starter. All food, service, decor and price were excellent and delivered by an exceptionally professional staff. Top marks for the Mayur gang! I shall definitely be eating here again and have recommended it to everyone I know. P.S. try the Saffron Martini cocktail!
Mayur – Liverpool City CentreThis is an outstanding place to eat. We we in a party of 14 and opted for the early evening set menu - it was flawless. Often, set meals can be disappointing, but this was certainly NOT the case here! Every mouthful was utterly divine and everyone was raving about the sheer quality of the food on offer. Staff were amazing - the service was exceptional without being obsequious or obtrusive - water / wine / bread constantly offered. Wow. I have been here a couple of times before and been amazed by it on each occasion. As for the 'battle' between here and the London Carriage Works - both are fab and it's great to see such quality in Liverpool; we need more restaurants of this calibre in the city.
60 Hope Street – Liverpool City CentreOne of the very best. Excellent wines, Quality food. Limited space though. Think you should ring before so not to be disappointed. Fish stew sensational.
Volare – SouthportWhat a wonderful little Italian rest the staff could do enough for my wife and i and we felt like we were actually on holiday. the food was as fine as i have had in any rest visited previously, well done guys keep up the good work.
Volare – SouthportWhat a gorgeous little place this is, the food was something else and the staff couldn't do enough, these guys have gone a step further than needed. fantastic!!! wish we lived a bit closer but will def be back again.
Julian’s Restaurant – HoylakeKimos Cafe in Liverpool has a lot to learn in the way of serving food. As they seem incapable of listening to customers face-to-face I thought I would take the time to spell it out. Food should be hot - not like the baked potatoes, which come half-cooked from the microwave with dry stone-cold fillings and a clump of mayo to help you choke it down. Service should be friendly - not reminiscent of a bull-dog chewing a wasp, which is how they respond to customers who send inedible food back. Chef’s should listen to complaints - not ignore feedback from customers. The two chefs would do well to taste the poor quality of their kitchen to remind them of how much they have to learn, should they care enough. Me and my girlfriend were refused replacement meals or a refund, and therefore had to leave without eating our meals. I am amazed that anyone continues to put up with the awful fare and snarling service this cafe dishes up.
Kimos – Liverpool City CentreBeen to both the restaurant and Bistro in the last month- both have excellent service and food, and in my opinion far better than the more expensive London Carriage Works. Definitely recommend. A good, varied and competitively priced menu - lovely ambience.
60 Hope Street – Liverpool City CentreFantastic Restaurant! Great Service, Amazing Food would recommend the meat balls best Ive ever tasted. See you again soon
Pietra Bar and Restaurant – Waterloowhat a place if there is a better eatery in Liverpool can someone please tell me where amazing value and the food, well go try it for yourself
Kimos – Liverpool City CentreThe food was superb. We asked the waiter if we could have our curry a little more spicy than usual and they did this to perfection. It's more impressive and spacious inside than most other Indian restaurants in South Liverpool. Fully air conditioned in the summer.
Red Fort – AigburthAfter reading the previous reader recommendations of Sheldrakes I was taken there for an anniversary lunch. The location is really something to write home about but I was disappointed with the restaurant and the food itself. Call me picky but i don't like napkins that seem to have been used by at least one previous diner and the table was gouged like an old school desk. When you look around it needed a darn good clean and all the dead flowers and plants in broken containers on the patio did little to lift the spirits. The food was only ok - why advertise rustic chips when the were frozen rustic chips? The smelt like they had been dunked in very old oil. Couldnt fault the steak but a too liberal helping of mustard on the bread underneath almost killed the flavour. My partner fared a little better - still frozen chips but the fish was fresh and sweet. We opted not to have a sweet or coffee and found a little coffee house in Heswall instead - how disappointing.
Sheldrakes – HeswallWe have been to many restaurants, and would have to say that the Retsina is one of the best, the service is impeccable, and the food is perfection, would recommend this restaurant to everyone, and will most definitely be back.
Retsina Greek Restaurant – West DerbyMy favourite restaurant in Liverpool! The food is always gorgeous and the staff are lovely. Love the pink decor and intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a romantic evening.
