horrible. just this minute been told to go here by another local business for that "real country feel" - if the real country was Berlin during the closing stages of WWII it might be right. The glasses filthy, another couple TOLD us not to order food, the staff are really rude and awful at their jobs and the drinks are most costly than other pubs in the area (of which you will be spoilt for choice) just go somewhere else, I thought these places were shut down in the 70s

Lovely little café with character in Ambleside. Have a very nice lunch of smoked Salmon sandwich and a lovely soup. A good place to go for a shop too, lots of gifts and many made by the owner!

First visit since the fire and was a little apprehensive as I’ve known this beautiful old pub for years and years. I’m pleased to report that the famous four-poster bar survived the blaze intact and all-in-all it seems to have retained its character, despite the enforced makeover. I didn’t see any of the bedrooms in the main building but these were a little tired anyway so could probably have done with a refurb anyway.

Have been going to the Mason’s Arms for years now and it never gets tired. It’s hard to find but that’s all part of the fun. There are great views out over the Winster Valley and is summer it’s great outside in the sunshine. But winter’s just as good, especially if you can snag a place by the roaring fire. Great beer and good, hearty food. You can stay over too which must be great on a snowy Lakeland night.

Stayed the night here for our wedding anniversary recently and a had a great time. Although close to Bowness and Windermere, the Gilpin Valley is off the beaten track on the road to Crook and a real haven. The hotel was lovely – we had a great room with a huge copper bath. The bar has a roaring fire and the restaurant is great if you are a carnivore like me. We chose the rib of beef on the bone. The Wild Boar has its own private woodland too so next morning we had a stroll in the (unexpected) sunshine. Highly recommended for a Lakeland escape.

What a great little pub, hidden away in the back streets of Bowness. Full of character and on a crisp winter’s day with the fire roaring you can’t beat it. For summer, they have a small terrace out front but truth be told it’s winter when this place really comes into its own.

Visit 3 or 4 times every year. The whole experience of this coffee shop is brilliant. I enjoy the experience of trying the various coffees available, which by the way I have never tasted anything better in my whole time of visiting Trek. The staff are really helpful and are always to make time to speak. Always worth visiting

Love Wilf's Café in Staveley. Great place for lunch, coffee and cakes. Next door to the brewer of my favourite beer too - Windermere Pale Ale. ALos near a great bike shop Wheelbase. stop off here on the way into the national park.

Real Olde Pub it's walls oozing with history and folk lore. The food is out of this world yet reasonably priced and it's menu as refreshingly different and varied as I have ever seen in a Pub. Booked again for this sunday evening can't wait!

Still the best beer of any pub I have been to. Also my favourite beer is a permanent fixture namely Hawkshead Windermere pale Ale. Love the atmosphere of this 'real' community pub. Don't really do food and don't expect modern style but a winner all the same.

A truly first class restaurant. Winning lots of awards and I can see why. Our meal was incredible. Tasty as well as inventive. In a perfect setting for a romantic meal for two.

Wonderful 2 days at The Pheasant Bassenthwaite. Our room was lovely and the original bar was amazing! We ate in both dining rooms and both meals were excellent! Would heartily recommend The Pheasant to anyone!

Just tried to book for a meal. Says dogs allowed on website, but they are not allowed while food is being served. So we did not book.

Fantastic decor, well laid out, very clean and staff very welcoming. Good choice of food and drinks. Unfortunately when saying 'Goodbye and thanks' on exit, no member of staff acknowledged it.
