Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel – AmblesideChesters is an impressive upmarket vegetarian cafe and furnishings shop. Though I was looking forward to a full breakfast I really did enjoy my bean and hash brown dish and my partner the wild mushrooms. Good coffee and a beautiful walk through bucolic scenes to Elterwater from the door.
Chesters Cafe By The River – AmblesideDon’t know Carlisle at all but we ended up here for lunch in the midst of a jaunt on the Settle-Carlisle railway. Happened across Franco’s and we ended up with a great Italian lunch. I had a lovely lasagne and my mother (who eats out at Italian A LOT) had the ‘best Minestrone soup ever,’ praise indeed. We were there in the daytime but I’m sure in the evening it will be lovely and atmospheric in that old school, traditional Italian way.
Francos – CarlisleAmazing old hotel in a beautiful town. Food, service and wine list all excellent!
Tufton Arms Hotel – ApplebyReally enjoyed my Thai meal here. very tasty with lovely service in the middle of Barrow.
Baan Siam – Barrow-in-FurnessProper fine dining at this place! beautiful looking venue too in one of my favourite places!
1863 – PenrithGreat and handy place to stay in Penrith. The best thing about it is the excellent Italian food!
Villa Bianca – PenrithPoor quality food for the price, full monty breakfast for that price they charge you would expect decent sausages not deep fried poor quality ones which you find in Aldi’s frozen section 10 for a £1,and when you are served tinned mushrooms just shows they don’t care. I’ve give 1 stars which is very generous, First and last time I go.
Scoffs Cafe and Sandwich Bar – Cleator MoorVisited for very late lunch after long walk with black Labrador . Staff were lovely ,friendly and very helpful and the food was great . Loved it so much I went back the next day . So dog friendly it was great . Thankyou ! Highly recommended.
Herdwicks Cafe – ConistonA great old building in the centre of Carlisle. The restaurant has a great mixture of old and new. Tip top food and good service!
The Old Bank – CarlisleLovely traditional cafe in Longtown near Carlisle. All the usual suspects on the menu. Well cooked and friendly service. They have rooms too though I have never stayed.
The Sycamore Tree – CarlisleWe love the village of Cartmel and we love the Royal Oak pub right in the heart of it in the main square. Great food and service and the beer garden is great on lovely summer days!
The Royal Oak – CartmelI don't think I have ever looked forward to a beer as much as the one on Saturday after a hot sweaty climb in the Langdales. The Windermere Pale Ale was awesome! I ordered 2 at the same time as the bar was so busy. Very much enjoyed the Chilli with chips & rice. Hearty portions were needed and delivered. One of the best locations in the lakes too!
Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel – AmblesideI've not had a Sunday roast for ages and never usually go for pork if I do. So it was a real treat to have one at The Greyhound in Shap. Very tasty and filling after our hike up Harter Fell. The place has had a refurb and looks great. Rustic but contemporary. Beer was good too!
Greyhound Hotel – PenrithGreat restaurant in heart Bowness. We always go here when in the Lakes! Nice food and people
Villa Positano – WindermereSuperb family run restaurant/pub, there italian dishes are out of this world. Please try this place, you wont be dissapointed. Steaks are 10/10. Great local atmoshere, reasonable prices for quality of food, good varied choices on menu, cant wait to go back,
Crown Inn – PenrithDropped in here for the first time after a walk from Aira Force around Gowbarrow Fell (incidentally the most stunning views along the length of Ullswater). For somewhere so out of the way, The Royal had an extensive and interesting menu as well as cask marque ales and accommodation.
Royal Hotel – PenrithA really nice Turkish restaurant in Barrow. Very authentic. Lovey staff, open kitchen where the chefs take pride in what they are doing. My wrap wit rice was very tasty!
