After a short wait we were shown to our table. The server apologised for the wait to take our order but to be fair we had only waited 5 or so minutes so no issue at all. Once we ordered the meal was served in about 10 mins. Well worth the wait. Great Sunday roast very good servers. A genuine welcoming pub in the Dales.
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockWe went to this cafe to try the Sunday lunch. Three of us ordered the pork and the fourth member of our party ordered the beef. Mostly the food was of reasonable quality but we found the portions very inconsistent. The first two portions of pork arrived with thickly cut medallions of pork, stuffing, yorkshire pudding, lots of potatoes and vegetables and lots of gravy. Unfortunately the next portion of pork which arrived had noticeably fewer vegetables and less gravy. When the beef arrived.; well my husband describes it as a childs portion. There were two small, very thin slices of very dry beef and hardly any vegetables or gravy at all. We concluded the kitchen must have run out of vegetables and gravy even though it was only 1pm. In fairness a waiter did ask if everything was ok and brought more yorkshire puddings, a bowl of extra vegetables and a jug of extra gravy. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

In excess of an hour. The manager eventually came out to apologise but far too late. Had we not already paid we would have left. I have to say that the food when it arrived was very good.

The food was great - plentiful and well presented, the service was excellent and the table was beautifully decorated for her birthday, which was such a lovely extra touch. Thank you for making our day out and my Mum’s special treat so lovely. We would definitely recommend - and we will definitely be back!

We, and our dog, were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and we had a lovely meal. The food was delicious (the homemade pie and gravy were absolutely amazing), the service was friendly and efficient and the place was very warm , cosy and welcoming. We are hoping to fit in another visit before we have to go home!

Communication beforehand was excellent, and being able to pre-order our food made everything so much easier, especially with such a large group. The staff were friendly, helpful and well organised, and everything ran smoothly on the day. The food was delicious, portions were generous, and everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals. It was the perfect place for a special family celebration. Thank you to all the team at the Old Gate Inn for helping make the 70th birthday such a lovely and memorable occasion. We would definitely recommend you and will happily return!

Despite us having to significantly reduce our group size a few weeks out, and the group being delayed arriving by a transport mix up at the end of 9 edges walking challenge, we were made to feel extremely welcome and very well looked after. The food was delicious, with generous portion sizes and all 11 of our group receiving their courses together. There was also great music from a live band downstairs.
