Andiamo – WesthoughtonOwls at Standish reception looks very posh everybody dressed very smart mainly older people though. Menu was 3 courses for 6.95 which made me wonder about the quality. For starter I chose the whole black pudding with mustard and salad, when it came there was 2 slices of cheap black pudding with some horse raddish sauce. Then I had the Beef Steak Pie described as chunks of tender beef with rich gravy and puff pastry crust. It was like a tin of smart price oxtail soup with a crust over it I found 2 pieces of meat in there and they were fat and grissle sent it back and told we would get a credit on the bill for it. Vegetables served in a dish boiled potatoes cabbage and carrots were ok but no butter or gravy so very dry. Dessert was rich chocolate mousse…or a tiny pot of angel delight really. When we paid the bill they had knocked a pound off for the crappy pie, which was probably more than it was worth. I would advise not to bother with the 3 course dinner menu & I won't be going back, would rather pay a bit more for better quality food.
The Owls At Standish – Wiganthe chef's specials (the Handy and Matoke) are the best I've had anywhere - just nothing like the boring fare served in 99% of curry houses. These are lovingly prepared dishes that are about half the price they ought to be. I've eaten in some very expensive Indian restaurants and never tried anything as good as the Handy or Matoke. Ignore the decor though!
Spicy Hut – RusholmeThe food is very wholesome and satisfying, but the staff go that extra mile on all occasions
The Midway – StockportWent here last night (Sat 10th Oct 2010) and to be honest I will not be going back. The whole place feels a little dated, the tables have plastic tops and no table cloths are used. The plates are also plastic (that’s right plastic plates). The food was nice a good selection of Indian, with a smaller selection of Chinese dishes. I then had the misfortune of needing to visit the toilet, imagine the worst public toilet you have ever visited and you have got it. massive sections of tiles missing from the walls, wooden toilet seats that rattle about, a great big bolt on the back of the door that has been moved about several times over the years rather than refurbish the doors and worst of all stains on the walls, on the toilet handles, pools of urine all over the floors.
Karims Restaurant – MiddletonVery poor sandwich...the ham and cheese "melt" was scarcely warm on the outside and cold on the inside, also hardly any cheese with a sickly sweet chutney...this and 2 small coffees to take out for £8.10....felt like I'd been mugged.
North Star Deli – ChorltonA very lovely restaurant. Good menu. Prices realistic. Very attentive staff - don't mither you if you're the last table standing - as we most usually are!! Nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is lovely and the atmosphere relaxing and enjoyable. We go there regularly for girls' nights out, birthdays or just if we fancy a nice meal instead of a take away for a change! Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Sottovento – BoltonSituated on the Quays near the Lowry Outlet Mall and the new Media City. Visited for lunch - very reasonably priced and great ambience. Great place for shopping and lunch - will definitely be visiting again soon.
Lime – Salford QuaysI decided to try Baci on a one off as my niece had recently got a job there. Whilst the staff were friendly and helpful and the food superb i found the actual service a little hap-hazard. We booked for eight but were not shown to our table until half past. The food, whilst lovely took longer than desired to arrive (approx 30 minutes for the starter and further 40 for the main) but as it was absolutely packed to the rafters it was perhaps understandable. However the main issues for me and my wife were the Italian waiters whom seemed rather brusque and rude, especially when me and wife declined any wine, however that may just be the Italian manner. Furthermore, and the main issue, was that after talking to my brother the following day about the restaurant he asked if we had tipped, which we had, I was then horrified to discover that my niece will have seen none of that tip and the owner and manager keeps them all for himself. Truly shocking I believe and makes me question that whilst the food was good whether I shall return to such an establishment.
Baci Restaurant – BoltonWent for a birthday meal with 4 friends and initial thoughts were that the restaurant was elegant and well decorated. Some of the staff were friendly but the main courses clearly let the place down. 1 dish arrived a bit cold and the dishes were very bland and lacked flavour. Found some of the dishes were overpriced and then they added £10 service charge which was an insult. The likes of zouk, eastz east don't do this and they still remain no.1 in city centre Indian restaurants. Will not be visiting zaika again a real let down considering the high expectations it has earned itself.
Zaika – Manchester City CentreI have had the chance to come across The north star deli during a business visit, and I must say what a nice surprise! I eat out a lot because of my work and for pleasure, and what a selection in the deli, great food, fab looking place and to finish you must must try the owner favorite "gourmandise" the famous french MACARON !! Being from Paris I do know my macaron, this is perfect for a little gift for someone with a sweet tooth or to compliment your coffee. So keep up the good work guys and Ladure'e better watch out.
North Star Deli – ChorltonBrilliant restaurant, been twice and i must say id recommend this place to any one,its totally modern and stylish.....top marks 10/10.
Copper Pot – RochdaleOur family of 14 spent a delightful Sunday afternoon at Alberts Shed, the ambiance, the service, the food and the price was everything you would want. A big recommendation from us!!
Alberts Shed – Manchester City Centrei would recommend this restaurant for its high quality food and brilliant service.
Sottovento – BoltonAuthentic, non-pretentious Japanese food. Very good quality, highly recommended. (I'm Japanese, by the way)
Yuzu – Manchester ChinatownI have been a loyal customer at Cinnamon ever since it opened. Having tried most Indian restaurants in the area, I am in no doubt that this is the best. What is amazing (especially when compared with other good restaurants) is the absolute consistency of taste of the dishes. If you enjoy a dish once, you can guarantee that you'll enjoy it every time because it will always be exactly the same, same heat, same flavour, same taste. We've tried virtually everything on the menu over the years, and, while not everything is what I would choose (maybe too mild, or too sweet) they are without exception of excellent quality. From time to time we try somewhere else (in case we are missing something) but we've never found anywhere better. As other reviewers have mentioned, the welcome is very friendly from Khan and Abdul, the joint owners.
Cinnamon Indian Cuisine – WiganExcellent meals not greasy and spicy service excellent, all the waiters are friendly, each dish tasted freshly made and delicious and has its own taste we will definitely come again and will recommend to friends!!
Zouk Tea Bar – Manchester City CentreThis restaurant came recommended and I looked forward to my meal. My husband and I visited San Remo last Sunday and I must say it's "real" Italian restaurant offering a wonderful selection of fine traditional dishes and meats. We had been searching for a decent restaurant that doesn't cost the earth and San Remo delivers. My only complaint will be that the service wasn't very attentive.Waiter had no knowledge on what they're selling and there's a lack of motivation as well.No one ever came to ask if everything was OK.Maybe they just had a hard week. Will go back again anyway, it's a lovely restaurant.
