Pacifica Cantonese – EcclesWent for my 60th birthday celebration on July 8th. There were 27 of us plus 1 toddler. We'd agreed a menu choice beforehand with 4 starters, 4 mains plus a veggie option and 4 sweets. One of the main course choices was Sunday lunch which effectively increased the number of choices since there was lamb, beef or turkey available. The organisation was excellent. The pre-dinner drinks were available when we arrived & the staff went round taking orders while we had a drink. When the starters were ready we were all served together & the food was good. The main courses were excellent - plenty of good quality food well presented & in the case of the steaks, cooked as requested. Any minor hiccoughs were very rapidly sorted out with customer satisfaction being uppermost. The sweets too were good & the whole meal was nicely paced - not too fast but without any long waits. The staff were very attentive & wine glasses were kept filled without having to ask. All in all a very enjoyable experience and it's clear that the manageress Ann Amphlett who took over about a year ago has made a big difference. The staff looked happy & the food was nicely cooked to a high standard. I felt it was good value for money & the staff earned their tip.
Swan With Two Nicks, The – AltrinchamWent here for the first time on a random Sunday eve after deciding that our usual haunt was too far away for us today. We had Sunday roast, I had lamb, g/f had beef and we shared half and half. Both were excellent. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
English Lounge – Northern Quarter3 girs, nice bar, and surprisingly good food! We booked to make sure we could get in - Friday night. It wasn't overcrowded and felt really relaxed. The staff were happy to give us extra time to gossip & deliberate over the menu. Caramelised onion and goats cheese tart was delicious. Steak was cooked exactly as I liked it & staff happy to help with wine choices. Overall they were very tolerant of our slowness which made for a really relaxed evening.
Bluu – Northern QuarterI have been on a couple of occasions, always as part of a group on a quieter evening. The staff coped OK, to be fair very few places enjoy serving a reasonable sized group. We always opt for a eze - and always forget the kebabs and moussaka that come out at the end. Why? because usually the food is plentiful & we are all stuffed long before. Food is tasty, reasonably authentic & we usually have a great time - I would recommend it.
Kosmos Taverna – FallowfieldIts the little touches we liked most. They coped very well with a group of 14, getting all the food out in a timely fashion and together. Argentinian sausages were a delicious starter. Our Cow was called Daisy - I guess that could put some people off but we loved it. Steak was perfect, and we couldn't even face the dessert menu. The cocktails were delicious too - definitely worth a visit but be prepared to pay a little bit more than average.
Gaucho – Manchester City CentreOne of my favourite greek restaurants. Meze's good but so are the chef specials - always worth looking. The atmosphere is great & I always leave feeling pleasantly full & chilled out.
Dimitri’s Tapas Bar Taverna – Manchester City CentreWent last night had a really lovely meal lighting just right, nice ambience too.
Nam Ploy – BoltonI was a little apprehensive about going here after reading somewhat mixed reviews. I went with my parents and partner on a Thursday night for a graduation meal - a big event! I had booked a few weeks ago and they did not have my booking, yet despite this they led us to the bar where we had some drinks (great mojitos!) and they sorted us a good table in under 10 mins. We had a shared starter of cerviches which although small were excellent - the prawns with coconut was outstanding! The service was excellent, bread with dips on the table delicious. We all had steak and it was fantastic. The only reservation I had is they tend to cook it on the rare side, I ordered mine medium rare but it came rare. I sent it back and it was no problem, even came with a fresh salad. Bill came to £134.00 for 3 starters, 4 mains, and 2 sides, 3 desserts (pancakes - lovely) and a good few drinks - wines, beer and cocktails. Ambience was great, although needs to be busy - which it was. Decor fantastic, in a lovely old methodist church. Would go again - try it!
Gaucho – Manchester City CentreGood food and service and an interesting wine list - just a little on the pricey side.
Evuna Deansgate – Manchester City CentreThis was our second visit to EastzEast, the last one was over a year ago. We were pleased that the food and the service was just as good as the first time. We especially liked the fact that the curries were not swimming in oil. We will certainly visit it again.
East z East – Manchester City CentreA good meal at a very reasonable price especially if you use the £6.95 menu 3 courses included, a great place to eat and chat no rush, especially during the week.
The Waggon and Horses – WesthoughtonBeen many times always a very good meal with friendly staff who will help in any way. Not expensive. Very hard to beat.
Sunar Gaw – BoltonExcellent food, shame that the portion sizes were slightly on the small side.
Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant – Manchester City CentreI can't believe Derek thinks that there is plenty choice for vegetarians. The choice for vegetarians when I went this month was Tuscan Tart (on the permanent menu) or vegetable curry (on the June menu). Two choices is not "plenty". There are always only two choices. Unless of course you count a plate of vegetables. We went last week, and didn't fancy the tart or the curry, so opted for just vegetables - but they tried to charge us more than if we'd had a steak with them! Instead of charging us the set price of around £6.99 for a starter, main course and sweet, they thought it appropriate to charge us separately for our starters, vegetables and sweets which came to more than if we were charged for a steak off the set menu. The Owls is cheap and cheerfully great for carnivores, but don't try to send vegetarians there!
The Owls At Standish – WiganWe had a table for three on Friday to celebrate my birthday and also my daughter's recent qualified teaching status. The food was wonderful, the best we have had in the north west! The scallops were cooked perfectly and it was a pleasure to be able to choose from the wine's of the month with their complimentary descriptions. Marvellous evening and good value for well cooked food!
Lime Tree – DidsburyMy family have visited The Yew Tree on more than one occasion and it is down to the friendly service and lovely, tasty home cooked meals provided. Congratulations to the chef who maintains a consistently high standard.
Yew Tree Inn – RochdaleBest chinese outside of Manchester.first class food first class service, highly recommended. The staff are always attentive and Leo is as usual "mine host". David & Michelle (Rochdale)
