Pity the website failed to inform potential customers that it was not open for business because it is undergoing a change of management. We turned up at the appointed time to be greeted by an embarrassed new owner.

My wife and her friends had booked and arrived at the restaurant only to find that it was closed, yet again . This was Friday 15th November 2024, what a disgrace!!

Decided to eat here alone on a whim (couldn’t face cooking for one again), and I’m so glad. Brisket is one of my favourites, you know, the best comfort food cooking you remember your mum/gran/favourite relative always cooked, when you were a child? The sort of food that makes you feel cherished, and nostalgic in the absolute best way? And it’s also one of those meals that you order in the hope that it tastes just as you remember, but so often is NEVER as good as the memory, so you are disappointed and wish you chose something else? This meal was so DIFFERENT. The gorgeous flavour of the melt in your mouth tender beef, rich savoury gravy, smooth mash, onions, and perfectly cooked sweet carrots (I chose not to have the other veg) literally took me back to the best parts of my childhood, and put the biggest smile on my face. Desserts are another matter. So often they look so much better than they taste, the texture isn’t right, they’re overpoweringly sweet, or just too big. But I was intrigued by the flavours of the chocolate caramel mousse. Now I’m not a caramel fan (often in the too sickly sweet bracket) BUT, the flavours of hazelnut (favourite flavour) panna cotta and blackberry sorbet hooked me. OMG, the chocolate, hazelnut and blackberry were a ménage a trois of flavours and textures made in heaven. Adding the oh so slightly sharp, smoothly icy blackberry was an inspiration ally clever touch, that prevented the indulgent chocolate mousse and hazelnut panna cotta from being too much. Both courses and a coke for £32. I’ve had cheaper and more expensive meals, but none hold a candle to that. Thank you chef, outstanding. As Arnie once said, ‘I’ll be back’.

First time visit to The Hopping Hare and we will definitely be back. The mushroom starter and bread starter with the homemade butter we shared were delicious. I had the pork dish, my partner had the chicken dish and they were fantastic. Hospitality was brilliant as well. So pleased to have found this place and we are now aware of the tasting menus so will be planning on giving those a try.

Fantastic food, high quality and friendly efficient service by all. There was a good selection on the menu. The evening meal rounded off our day really well after going to a rugby match in celebration of my husband's birthday.

My wife and I both had the tasting menu - neither of us could fault any of courses. Every dish was full of flavour and cooked perfectly. We had great service from all of the staff, so a great experience all round

Loved the atmosphere in the pub. It was a little cold so had to keep my coat on for a bit but the open fire soon warmed me up. Staff were friendly and polite. Food was well executed but I did have to season my pie which was a little disappointing flavour wise. Hubby was left hungry after ordering the pork and it not coming with potato so could have had some advice on this at the point of ordering. As everything at the moment it was expensive 3 course with drinks costing £120 so more of a celebration dinner.
