Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithI was really encouraged to see a nice menu offering with a variety of options. Our orders were taken and we were advised that there were 2 big tables in so there would be a small wait for our meals (there were 4 of us). Our food arrived 1hr 15 mins after we sat at our table and one of the meals was missing which then took a further 15-20 mins before it arrived which was a real shame as the rest of us had all finished. What we did have was absolutely delicious and very hot. I dont think you should be charged for extra gravy especially when the wait was so long and a meal was missed. There was no offer of any goodwill gesture, taking the meal off the bill, drinks etc. al the staff were nice but in these circumstances more should have been done to compensate.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithLovely meal and staff were great. We would definitely recommend it to others. Perfect for couples or a catch up with friends Thank you
Grants Of Castlegate – Penrith5* all round, a friendly welcome, great atmosphere, excellent choices on the menu, the food was beautiful and the service first class, we live local and this was our first visit to Grants to celebrate my wife's birthday as a couple, everything was just brilliant easily outweighed our expectations. We will be back,.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithWhat a delicious meal! Staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food was tasty.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithGreat food, without fault through the whole meal. Friendly service. Nice friendly atmosphere.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithThe pub is a wonderful historic building, 300 years old, beams and all. Lovely people, great service... good traditional food (but a bit too much of it). The only off-putting thing was the sticky surface of the pub table. The waitress did spray and wipe it when asked, but it remained unpleasantly sticky... either old concealed beer-spill or solvent-damaged varnish? Also there was a football match on TV so it would have been nicer to eat in the dining room in an atmosphere more conducive to appreciating our meal.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithThis was the first time we had visited and the food and service was top notch! We arrived early but they let us have a table and have pre dinner drinks. Unfortunately they didn't run to cocktails, though they seemed to have all the ingredients. The scallops were delicious, which all 4 of us had, followed by the pork or steak, though I thought the latter was overpriced. All food was cooked to perfection. I would certainly recommend this little gem!
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithLoved our stay , the staff were all fantastic. The food was brilliant pub food would stay again if in that area

Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithWe went to the Queen'Head for a Father's Day Sunday lunch. There were five of us in total from 72 years to 2years six months. We all had an excellent meal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and could not do enough for our toddler. The portions were just right, cooked well and served nice and hot. None of us had been to the Queen's Head before, but we will definitely be back.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithWe were a group of 4 and had an amazing meal, the food was fantastic and service friendly, would highly recommend.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithWe ate at the Queesns Head 4 times in our 'walking week'. Started with Sunday lunch with some friends which was lovely, then we had 2 full meals finishing off with some small bites on our last day. The staff were amazing, the food was also fantastic; best find - Cumbrian way ale!!!!! Thank you to everyone who we met and the ones behind the scenes working so hard!!
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithGood food. Good value. Pleasant and friendly service. We will return...!
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithFantastic place. Beautiful olde world pub with lots of character, The staff are so friendly. Good honest Sunday roast.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithWe have eaten twice here now, and can honestly say, how friendly, this place is. The food is tremendous, plenty of it, nice and hot, and served quickly with a smile. I cannot believe how we have not visited sooner. We will definitely keep visiting as we travel to the Lake District (Pooley Bridge) often.
Queens Head Inn Tirril – PenrithWe stayed at the North Lakes hotel for a spa weekend and wanted a special meal out. Looking at the menu online and reviews we chose Grants and were extremely happy with our choice. Our expectations where food is concerned are high and Grants did not disappoint. Do not let the location or first look at Grants deter you from taking a seat. The taste and presentation of the food was excellent. The service staff were very friendly and attentive. The online booking was simple and the following communication regarding booking reassuring. My only negatives were atmosphere (especially as one of the first diners that evening) it lacked finishing touches in the restaurant itself in decoration and music and crockery (I know modern tends to be earthenware but with such gorgeous food I hate the scraping noise when trying to savour the last bits on the plate). This said, the food and attentive, knowledgeable staff will bring me back!! Thanks for the salmon recommendation x
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithExcellent food, albeit my wife’s salmon could have been slightly less cooked for her liking. Otherwise this was a very good evening and you get what you pay for. Very enjoyable! See you again soon.
