Excellent food as always and lovely staff

Used to love coming this pub for food but a bit of a let down yesterday. We arrived to be asked if we would like to sit at a table with peas, other food and Napkins visably underneath the table. We then were offered an alternative table in the restaurant rather than the bar. The food came reasonably quickly, which I have mixed feelings about. We ordered 2 kids chicken strips and chips meals and the portions were the worst we’ve ever had, 2 small chicken strips and no more than around 12 chips. I asked if we could order some more chips as it seemed a small portion and the waitress agreed and got us more which was appreciated. The food was ok compared to previously really good, not sure if change of chef or ownership? As we were leaving I noticed a family sat at the table we initially were given with the food under the table having not been cleaned up! Wow! Used to love coming this pub as we aren’t too far away, shame.

This is a hidden gem out in the country. The room was really nice (note stairs required to all rooms). Food was also very good; both dinner and breakfast. We would return if back in the area.

Grants Restaurant is a little gem in Penrith, just what you need after a long walk in the lakes, the food was tasty and presented lovely, would I go back again, most definitely!!!

Amazing Sunday lunch ! Both the roast beef and chicken were cooked perfectly. The meats came with all the trimmings including cauliflower cheese and plenty of gravy . Staff were lovely . Would highly recommend .

Our second visit to Grants this time we took friends as this place is too good to keep to yourself . Every dish we have tried is perfect in taste and presentation . 10/10 once again

Away for a few days with friends for a special birthday, the food, drinks and service were great and everyone had a fabulous evening which was the aim, thanks to the team at Grants of Castlegate.

We booked for a Wednesday night recently as found the restaurant by looking for 'best restaurants in Penrith' while we were on holiday in the area. This is a small, boutique restaurant & has been very nicely decorated & set up. The staff are very friendly & attentive. The food we ordered was superb. We both had the king scallops to start which were perfectly cooked and tasted superb. For mains I had the trio of pork & my wife had the seabass with lobster & crab ravioli. Both dishes were excellent. The local cheese board we shared was also extremely good. We really enjoyed the meal & would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant.

Weekend hiking with my daughter and chose restaurant due to good reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Wine very good value steak as tender as you’d want it to be and service was excellent. All in all a very good dining experience and would definitely visit again.

We actually travelled over an hour to come back for a second visit at this lovely restaurant. It was well worth the trip! We thoroughly enjoyed all the excellent food. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, and the staff are very welcoming. Plus, they even allow dogs.

After a long drive up from the south we needed a location that was not a challenge which asked too much from it's customers. Grants supplied a very decent offer on wine and more than acceptable food offering after we had phoned ahead due to the delights of the M6! Nor crowded on a Sunday night but a pleasant experience after a long day. Would be happy to return if in the area again.

Great steak and ale pie using full shortcrust pastry with perfect gravy and veg. I recommend it!

We had a great meal. We both enjoyed every course. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was lovely and welcoming. And to top it all off we are allowed to take German Shepherd in too

We felt well looked after from the minute we booked. We were sent a timely reminder; we were served drinks and nibbles outside at our request on a nice summer evening while our main course was being prepared; and all our needs were met. In keeping with such friendly and professional service, the food was divine. We felt it was on a different level from most restaurants where we have eaten. The menu is imaginative, the portions good and the quality exceptional. We are only sorry we don't live in the area as we would become frequent patrons. Thank you for a lovely evening.
